TOYOTA AVALON 2000 car safety problem was reported on Sept 07, 2000.TOYOTA AVALON 2000, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK . i was following my wife out of the subdivision to work at approximately 06:40. i went through 3 stop signs with no apparent problems breaking. when my wife stopped at the 4th sign, my break peddle went to the floor and i hit her rear end at approximately 5 mph. there scratches and dents in both bumpers. i crept back home at 5 mph and attempted to stop at all three stop signs. the car stopped slowly, but the break peddle went to the floor each time. i had the car towed back to the dealer for inspection. a toyota factor representative examined the car on september 19, 2000. i recieved a call from toyota today and was told that there was nothing wrong with my car. this is the biggest bunch of bull since firestone said they make good tires. i talked to the owner of the toyota dealership and told him that i had lost cofindence in the car and toyota, and wanted my money back. he said that because there was an "alleged" break failure there was nothing he could do about it. my only recourse was to the better business bureau and the texas department of motor vehicles (administers the texas lemon law). i will persue these avenues of recourse, but also want to file a complaint with the nhtsa. i believe that toyota's lawyers have control of this situation, and there is no way they will admit that their produce is faulty. does the nhysa have any other reports of break failures on new toyota avalon's? i appreciate any assistance you can provide. thanks mike vorndam.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 2 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):4T1BF28B4YU. TOYOTA AVALON 2000 car safety problem was reported on .TOYOTA AVALON 2000, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:FOUNDATION COMPONENTS:DISC . my 2000 toyota avalon xls suffer from a brake pad clicking noise that can not be eliminated. toyota issued techincal service bulletin br004-00 dated 10/20/00. when applying the brakes in reverse i hear this noise, then again when the driving direction changes to go forward. this nosie occurs several times a day, especially if the vehicle sits over 30 minutes. my car is still under warranty. it went to the shop at least 3 times before regency motor gave up. i've been through arbitration, the arbitrator failed me miserably. he decided it was not a safety issue. however, toyota can't repair the car. so how does he know it's not a safety issue. toyota has not eliminated the noise. according to toyota's bulletin all models from "90 to 00" could suffer from this brake pad clicking noise. toyota has merely created a band-aid for the noise (the bulletin advises that a dic brake caliper grease is to be applied), but they have not repaired the problem. and the proposed fix only will last 6 month to 1 year. it did not last a week for me. as a consumer with a car that is still under its 3year/36000 mile warranty, i feel cheated. please look into toyota's unacceptable response to this problem.*ak.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):4T1BF28B9YU. TOYOTA AVALON 2000 car safety problem was reported on Feb 18, 2010.TOYOTA AVALON 2000, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE . our 2000 toyota avalon 6 cylinder engine shut down due to oil sludge. we had it towed to the nearest toyota dealer (champion toyota) where they told us the engine is dead due to the years of oil sludge. no one told us that the 2000-2002 avlon was in a quiet recall called csp to "fix" those engines. the figure for a new engine is $9000, we decided to take the car to a auto shop near the house where the oil sludge was cleaned. we got the car back. within a few weeks, the car broke down on a busy highway intersection late at night. we had the car towed home as it was very late. we had the car towed to charles maund toyota who sold us the car (car previously owned by the owner charles maund. we bought it with 7000 miles on it in 2000t. the mechanics there cleaned the sludge and try to test drive, only to have the engine shut down again..they took it apart and found that the engine has been damaged beyond repair due to the sludge problem. we did some research on the web and has them to make good on the repairs even though we were not notified of the csp and were not able to take advantage of it during the time limit placed on the csp by toyota corp. the problem is well known and well documented. we have regularly changed the oil, though not always with toyota dealer as we have moved. the engine breakdown could have caused accidents had we not been able to coast to a narrow shoulder by the corner of 2222/360 highway interchange. we want toyota to replace the engine and correct the defective design. we also believe that mr. charles maund may have received the csp notice as he was the "original owner" but fail to communicate that to us. we have purchased 2 vehicles from charles maund and were regular maintenance customers so they have our records and would have known that we have one of the oil sludge 6 cylinder avalons. *tr.Mileage was 125000 miles. TOYOTA AVALON 2000 car safety problem was reported on Apr 21, 2014.TOYOTA AVALON 2000, manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . while pulling into a parking space in front of a retail store. the car suddenly accelerated with engine at highest rpm.... front end hitting concrete wall . police and emt's called and report given. relatively minor head and chest injuries to 88 year old driver. no air bag deployment. car towed to repair shop.where it was discovered that the steel cable from the accelerator pedal where it is located just inside the fire wall was stuck in the full accelerate position. the location of this cable was not affected by the resulting crash. there were no carpet pads or other such items which could have interfered with the accelerator pedal ( as previously reported in past high speed toyota crashes).further, the driver's foot was off the accelerator and moving towards the brake at the time of acceleration but the distance traveled was only about 10 feet before the crash! *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 1 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 88500 miles. TOYOTA AVALON 2000 car safety problem was reported on Oct 28, 2014.TOYOTA AVALON 2000, manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . car was parked in the garage. i noticed that the eyeglass compartment that is located inside the car between the two front visors was hanging down and covering the inside rear view mirror. i tried to close it shut by pushing it up into place, but it kept falling down. i put on masking tape to keep it closed, since i did not want to drive without the use of my inside rear view mirror. that same day, i had an appointment to get new tires at an auto repair place. i drove directly there and asked the auto mechanic to remove the compartment cover entirely. he removed the cover, it was held in place with two little screws, and he also found in the car a tiny piece of aluminum, in a v shape, that must have been part of the compartment locking mechanism. i have had this car for 14 years and never have put anything in that compartment. i may have opened it once to see how it worked when i first got the car. i am glad that this did not happen while i was driving in traffic, and that this cover is now completely gone from the car. this car does have very low milage. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 17000 miles.
