AUDI S4 2000 car safety problem was reported on Mar 15, 2000.AUDI S4 2000, manufactured by VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC had a problem with TIRES:SIDEWALL . after washing my car and detailing the tires (there were no abnormalities at this time), i made a trip on the highway for approximately 20 miles. when i reached my destination, i noticed a golf ball-sized bulge in the sidewall of my right front tire. upon inspection, it appeared to be a defect of some sort since there were no marks on the tire and i had not hit any significant pot holes on my trip. i replaced the rim and tire with the spare. the next day, i went to the audi dealer and they said that they do not cover warranties or service on tires. they directed me to the bridgestone dealer (king bear, 3907 4th avenue, brooklyn, new york, (718)836-6501). the tire dealer said that i had "impact damage. you must have hit something." i informed the dealer that i did not hit anything and he said that there was nothing i could do and that i would have to buy a new tire. i told him that this was ridiculous that a $250 tire on a $42,000+ new car would fail at less than 2000 miles. he said that there was nothing he could do. upon further arguing, he called bridgestone and they agreed to let me pay half the price of the tire. i reluctantly agreed to pay. they had to order the tire and i am now waiting for it to come in. i am very disturbed that a brand new $250 tire would fail from normal driving at less than 2000 miles. i am worried about the safety of these tires. does this mean that i will have to replace tires on a regular basis? i wish to let you and other s4 owners know that there may be a problem with these tires, though the dealer said that there is no problem and that this is a common occurrence. *ak( dot number: tire size: p225/45r17 ).0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):WAUDD68D7YA. AUDI S4 2000 car safety problem was reported on Apr 24, 2000.AUDI S4 2000, manufactured by VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC had a problem with TIRES:SIDEWALL . this is the second tire failure in less than 4000 miles. once again while washing my car, i discovered a bulge in the sidewall. this problem seems to occur approximately every 1900 miles. i contacted bridgestone and the representative said that since these tires have a low profile sidewall, they are prone to damage from driving on "rough" roads. i told him that i understand that i live in new york city where the roads may be "rough" but that low profile tires are supposed to be engineered with a stronger sidewall to absorb any "roughness" in the road. this is why they cost significantly more than tires with a larger sidewall. as an engineer, i know that the sidewall should be strengthened on a low profile tire to prevent damage and reduce the risk of a failure or an accident. i believe that these tires are unsafe unless they are used only on perfectly smooth roads. i still had to pay $125, half price for a new tire, and i am not satisfied with the answers i received at all. i am very disappointed in the quality of these tires as well as concerened for my safety while driving with these tires. it is ridiculous that normal everyday driving would cause two identical tire failures in less than 4000 miles on a brand new car. the manufacturer insists that there is no defect and that there is no problem with the tires. how can this be? my family and i have been driving on the same roads for years with various different cars equipped with various types of tires and have never encountered tire problems before. one more point of interest is that on the bridgestone website, the potenza re-040 tires are not even listed in the catalog. this seems strange to me. perhaps there is a problem or a recall and the manufacturer just does not want to stay. i will be keeping my fingers crossed and will regularly check the condition of these tires, though it may be in my best interest to change all the tires to another brand altogether. *ak.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):WAUDD68D7YA. AUDI S4 2000 car safety problem was reported on .AUDI S4 2000, manufactured by VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE:GASOLINE:TURBO-CHARGER . much of this information is from www.audiworld.com. there have been numerous turbo failures on the earlier 2000 audi s4. for the people that have had turbo failures, some have indicated an abnormal 'siren' sound when accelerating. there have been a few turbos that have also been replaced (without failure) because of complains of this sound. my car started exhibiting this sound from 2k miles onward. initially, this sound occured only when the engine was cold. it is however now more apparent most of the time. i have brought this to the attention of the audi service department but have insisted that sound is normal and is apparent even on new cars. since then i have test driven a new s4 and the sound is not present. the theory to the current failure is that there is an insufficient oil supply to the turbos and because of this the internal bearings are damaged and hence start whining ('siren sound')and eventually failing. a few changes by audi also supports this theory. 1) they have revised the turbos on the newer s4s. the oil inlet to the new turbos are now larger. also,2) they have revised the recommended oil weight from a 5-40w to 0-30w which ensures better oil flow and lubrication at lower temperatures. the reason of my concern is that the turbos cost more than $5000 dollars to replace and i intend to keep my car for 5 years or 90k miles (whichever comes first). fyi the 'siren' sound is sometimes loud enough that passengers in my car think that there is a emergency vehicle in the vicinity. i would be more than happy to assist you in any way, or provide you with contacts, literature on individuals that have experienced turbo failures..Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):WAUDD68D1YA. AUDI S4 2000 car safety problem was reported on Apr 02, 2005.AUDI S4 2000, manufactured by VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK:CONTROL UNIT/MODULE . while driving along ca-35 (skyline boulevard) at approximately 45 mph on saturday, april 2, 2005 during light to moderate braking around a curve, both the abs and brake warning lights on my 2000 audi s4 came on, along with 3 warning tones. simultaneously, a sudden change in brake feel was detected along with a "thunk" noise from the front region of the vehicle. the following week, i had the car inspected by two independent service and repair organizations, both of which confirmed an intermittent electronic failure in the vehicle's abs control module (a $1000+ part). since then, the vehicle experiences 3-4 of these intermittent failures during the course of a driving day. when the failure occurs when the vehicle is not braking, it's annoying but somewhat inconsequential. however, when the problem happens during braking, there is definitely a marked change in braking behavior as the abs controller goes offline. under emergency braking situations, i imagine such a failure could be a substantial safety and risk issue. somewhat taken aback by the total estimated repair costs of $1600+, i decided to do some investigation into the problem at sites such as this (nhtsa odi), audiworld.com and the web at large. what i found is a consistent pattern of this sort of failure across a wide swath of audi models during 1999 to 2000. further, i have also learned that the original part installed on the vehicle was rev. a and replacement parts being installed are rev. e. conveying this information to audi's client services through two written letters resulted in no action on their part beyond a confirmation of "your vehicle is out of warranty, you must bear the cost of this repair." that'd be fine were this a wear or maintenance item or due to my own negligence; however, i believe the evidence strong that this is a design and/or quality control problem on a critical vehicle safety system..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 68000 miles. AUDI S4 2000 car safety problem was reported on July 18, 2001.AUDI S4 2000, manufactured by VOLKSWAGEN OF AMERICA, INC had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . the instrument cluster on all the audi s4s and also on vw loose pixels on the dash and it goes out, it is a hazard because this is a gauge that does a system check every time you start the vehicle, the car tells the driver if there are brake problems, engine problems, also if lights are out i.e. brake lights turn signals, and also fluid status of the car. when this instrument cluster goes out or as audi calls it loses pixels, the driver does not know the status of the car which could cause safety and harm to the operator. it has been documented many times and has been replaced on my car over 4 times and is a common occurrence with other audi owners. also the window regulator clip that holds the window breaks as well, audi and vw did a recall vin specific models of the beetle jetta and a4 but not the s4, the clip is the same design that is used in my vehicle. it also has been documented many times of failing and causes another safety issue, if the clip breaks the window will roll down unexpectedly, i.e. causing the window to break which throws glass all over the occupants in the car and also exposes limbs to objects outside of the vehicle without knowledge. many complaints have been made about this design flaw. i have tried to resolve these issues with audi multiple times and phone calls and multiple emails, regardless of the age and miles on my car, it is the same things that keep breaking, causing these safety issues. both of these issues have been an ongoing problem from day one when these designs were put on the market. and replacing these items is necessary to ensure the safety of my occupants and myself. they need to be redesigned and revamped to solve these issues. replacing them every single year is not acceptable. and even more so when someone's life is at risk, due to a bad and careless design. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 19955 miles.
