Mitsubishi Eclipse 1997 Engine And Engine Cooling Review #10160636 MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 1997 car safety problem was reported on June 23, 2006.MITSUBISHI ECLIPSE 1997, manufactured by MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING . squealing belts at startup, inconsistent small leaks of coolant, hesitation at 2k rpm were only pre-cursors. out of nowhere, while driving on highway, i looked at gauges for no particular reason....noticed the temperature was rising, eventually going as far as it could above h. so i look for smoke in rear view....nothing. i turn down the radio to listen for noises......nothing. everything seems fine. hoping that air through the radiator would cool the engine......not working. i decided i better pull over.....the second i safely stopped, huge puffs of white smoke billowed out the hood edges. i jumped out, opened the hood......huge clouds of smoke and smell of burning rubber, i thought the car was on fire. once the smoke settled, oil could be seen splattered all over the engine. tow truck comes and while putting on flatbed.....oil drained out like a water faucet. found out later from the dealer that oil line burst, causing the head gaskets to blow and most likely damaged totaled the engine. new engine quoted at $5000, used 71,000 mile engine in some salvage yard in alabama quoted at $2-3000. nice chunk of money and the engine still needs to be shipped and installed. what a deal? i actually spoke highly about mitsubishi's in the past, but now i'm having second thoughts. too bad mitsubishi company has such a bad history of failures, recalls, and poor repair service. i was actually thinking of buying a 2006 eclipse........not any more. i'll miss my 97 eclipse......it was pretty good to me, but this recent event with no warning, did me in and it is just wrong that i have read similar incidents on the internet and mitsubishi does nothing. time for an american car...............too bad we don't have the sense to make oil and gas-free vehicles though.......the technology is there. oh well......i guess i better start figuring out how i am going to get to work on monday. *jb.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 125000 miles. 1998 3000gt sl, automatic transmission periodically loses power when shifting into passing at 50 to 60 miles per hour. Had transmission rebuilt but the problem is still happening. Any ideas to the cause? 1998 mitsubishi galant seems to be having anti-theft problems. My guess, what the car is doing, is starting up, being able to drive it, but it kind of feels funny, I get to where I'm going, and turn off the car, when I come back, it won't start. I My son has a 2003 Mitsubishi Lancer LS with about 120, 000 miles on it. The blend door is stck and i need to find the blend door kit for it. Does a nybody know where i might get it! 2003 Mitsubishi Montero sport, gets cold horn goes off and finally breaks and seems to be on most of the time now. Mitsubishi won't recall to fix their garbage and want to charge you 1K to fix, but that just makes me a 1 time customer. Mitsubi No recall for the knob. There is a recall on the gearing for the air blend door on the airbox under the dash right above the gas pedal. it has improved geometry so you dont have to exert as much force on the knob for the air blend door to move. a mine is broke too. cant change it to defrost mode. just blows out cold air in my face Temp. control knob is broke. the knob to choose from feet defog, etc only turns a little bit. its all jacked up. 2003 lancer i have a 99 mits eclipse GS '99 model and i pushed a latch on the inside of the passenger door and now it wont go back so now the door wont close.. anyone have any ideas how to release it so that my will close thanks much appreciated... Whats the problem with the endeavor windshield it keeps cracking this is my third time replacing it in my 2004 2002 Galant. Won't take fuel through the fuel neck at a normal pace. Keeps backing up. Has all emmision and EVAP checked and all are functioning. I replaced fuel filler neck and made sure all vent hoses were clear. What else could it be? Has anyone had problems with their check engine lights? I have a 2003 Mitsubishi Oulander the serive light will not go out, the diagnostics state a evap leak yet despite all testing there is no leak detected.
