Mazda Mpv 2002 Engine And Engine Cooling Exhaust System Emission Control Catalytic ConvertorMAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on .MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM:EMISSION CONTROL:CATALYTIC CONVERTOR . we have had a terrible "rotten egg" smell coming from our exhaust since we have purchased the vehicle. we were told by the dealer that the van would be replaced without any inconvenience to us. the dealer later withdrew that offer because mazda corporation felt this was an isolated incident. we were also informed by the dealer to try 3 tan fulls of the same gasoline and the smell would go away. they told us if this did not work to go to other gas stations and start this process all over again until we found a brand that would work. we have tried this and have no improvement in the smell. we were also told by the dealer that ford motor company (who makes the engine) issued a statement to mazda service centers that this smell will go away between 8,000 to 12,000 miles. i asked the dealer, mazda corp., and ford motor co. for a written copy of this statement, and no one could provide one for me. have you had other complaints about this defect? i do not believe it is reasonable to expect a customer to put up with this smell for up to 12,000 miles. it is very embarrasing when people pull up next to you in traffic and hold their nose because of the terrible smell from our exhaust (this has actually happened.) have their been any recalls issued to correct this defect? thank you.*ak.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JM3LW28A620. (my husband would even try to bend the handle, but we're concerned about damaging the shifter and/or voiding the warranty) i have serious concerns about the potential for accidents posed by this poorly thought out lever (the only bad design on this wonderful van). i hope that you can convince mazda to correct it..Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JM3LW28JX20. Mazda Mpv 2002 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10058649 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on Feb 21, 2004.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . automatic transmission "bucks" or otherwise shifts violently into the next gear (any gear, pick one). my mpv currently has 26,000 on it. we have been experiencing this problem for over a year, but haven't had the time to take it in. finally took it in to the dealer. service manager stated (with a straight face) to me that the brakes (calipers) were creating "drag" and the violent shift would occur when reaching the threshold of power to go into the next gear. he recommended that we have the brake pads replaced and the rotors "turned" (for $250). we did not have the work done, but picked up the car. the shifting was a lot better when we picked up the car. that lasted about a week. now it is starting that jolting again. we took the car to big o for oil change, tire rotation and specifically asked them to check the brakes. rotors and calipers are fine and the brake pads only have 25% wear on them. now, i am blonde, but it seems to me that if the brakes were creating "drag" there would be a much higher percentage of wear on the pads, or there would be something indicating that the calipers were malfunctioning, especially after 26,000 miles. in fact, the big o manager thought my husband was a little daft in asking about brakes having any such affect on gear shifting. *jb.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JM3LW28A720. Mazda Mpv 2002 Service Brakes, HydraulicMazda Mpv 2002 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Review #10069630 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on Nov 15, 2002.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . i bought this car for 6 months, the engine light on twice, didn't fix it first time, the advisor said the gas tank cap is not close tight enought. couple of days later, the engine light is one again, this time they found control system incorrect flow, small leak, hose off of purge valve at air cleaner housing. car pulls to left on highway and right on local street. brought in 4 time, admit alignment on the 3rd time and fix it, but still pull. brought in again the fourth time, said found no pulling problem. we complaint that the car occasionally jerk when press gas paddle, the jerk feeling simliar to the way the car got hit in behind. they found no code for it. the car beep, they can't find any code for it. there are many problem we found in the car, but they said they can't find the code. one advisor think that the car's pulling because the car is too high. also, it happen 3 times since i bought the car that after i placed the gear to reverse, then place it back to drive, the car won't go but the engine run. to fix it, then i place the gear back to park and to drive, then the car back to normal run. i'm very regretful to have bought this car. it has so many problem and the dealear doesn't seem to want to fix the problem either. i'm, the consumer have to paid financially, and mentally for this car. it is a disaster..Mileage was 0 miles. (not sure what they did to correct solenoid) - 11/19/04 - 41,979 - tranny & torque converter flushed after complaining of poor driving again. note: - contacted mazda corporate about the lack of transmission maintenance in owners manual. mazda said there's no maintenance required! - 4/4/07 - 94,xxx - without warning, no accelerating, car simply stopped moving on the highway. tranny was slipping bad and my wife was nearly killed pulling off the highway! fluid level was ok, color was ok, but it smelled burnt. car required towing. it was diagnosed with total transmission failure. i called mazda usa, who said the car is out of warranty and no assistance will be offered. i called the dealership where it was always serviced, and they said that they've never seen mazda support a car out of warranty like this. i complained to both about how this was a documented problem from new. if i was smart, i would have filed a lemon law complaint and gotten a full refund back then, but they just kept insisting it was a tcm program. i never imagined that the tcm would be able to cause the tranny to physically fail. also, the fact that these trannies have internal, non-serviceable filters is just poor design. lastly, honda has the same issue with their odessy, but they are covering the repairs in full! my friend had his tranny replaced at 88k miles! i'm exploring legal avenues of recourse. *jb.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 94000 miles. Mazda Mpv 2002 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10188335 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on Dec 27, 2006.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . while driving on the freeway, the transmission began to not transfer power when automatically shifting out of overdrive when the accelerator was pressed. after getting off the freeway and coming through a busy intersection, the transmission failed completely (zero power transfer) nearly causing an accident in the intersection as the vehicle coasted to a stop. the "check engine light" did not illuminate until after the transmission had completely failed. the vehicle had only 57k miles on the odometer and all service had been done by the dealer up to that point. the vehicle was brought to the mazda dealer and diagnosed as total transmission failure. the fault code was p0752, shift solenoid circuit stuck on. despite the vehicle being past the 3 year/50k mile warranty period, mazda offered to replace the transmission with a factory rebuilt unit. we were responsible for the labor costs and split those costs with the local dealer. judging by the already large number of similar complaints registered on the nhtsa site, this is a known, common problem with these vehicles and an investigation into this transmission defect should be started. *tr.Mileage was 57900 miles. Mazda Mpv 2002 Power Train Review #10233714 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on June 03, 2008.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with POWER TRAIN . this complaint may not be about a safety issue of my 2002 mazda mpv van. however, it's definitely about part design defects. over years, i was struggling to solve engine light-on which took place every once while. recently, the thing got worse - engine idle rough, engine lack of power, jerking at speed higher than 40 mph or at up-slope. after long time struggle, i've finally found the problem, which was caused by a pcv hose failure. i've never thought it was a pcv hose problem, because the original pcv hose (part # aj51-13-89) has been recalled by mazda and replaced by new one (part # aj51-13-89ya, it looks like revision a) back to years ago. i've thought mazda has solved the problem. obviously, it?s not yet. this time the pcv hose has failed again, and it's so weak that the hose collapsed again under vacuum pressure. to fix the problem, i ordered a new hose, part # aj51-13-89yb. if you look at the part # carefully, you can infer that mazda has realized that their revision a hose didn?t work, which was used to replace the original under recall # 2204h, because they have re--designed revision b hose. it?s clearly that the original hose and revision a had design defects. however, they haven?t issue a recall to replace revision a yet this time. mazda should really recall this pcv hose again. the thing is even bad to customers. because the design defects and uncertainty of the part make the hose really special, no retail stores carry this hose. the only place you can find it is at mazda dealership, and it costs $67, much more expensive. it?s just a rubber hose, usually a couple of dollars. *tr .Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JM3LW28J620. Mazda Mpv 2002 Power TrainMazda Mpv 2002 Power Train Review #10262969 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on Mar 10, 2009.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with POWER TRAIN . this complaint is about part design defects for 2002 mazda mpv. over years, i was struggling to solve engine light-on which took place every once while. recently, the thing got worse - engine idle rough, engine lack of power, jerking at low rpm. after long time struggle, i've finally found the problem, which was caused by a pcv hose failure. i've never thought it was a pcv hose problem, because the original pcv hose (part # aj51-13-89) has been recalled by mazda and replaced by new one (part # aj51-13-89ya, it looks like revision a) back to years ago. i've thought mazda has solved the problem. obviously, it?s not yet. this time the pcv hose has failed again, and it's so weak that the hose collapsed again under vacuum pressure. to fix the problem, i ordered a new hose, part # aj51-13-89yb. if you look at the part # carefully, you can infer that mazda has realized that their revision a hose didn't?t work, which was used to replace the original under recall # 2204h, because they have re--designed revision b hose. it?s clearly that the original hose and revision a had design defects. however, they haven?t issue a recall to replace revision a yet this time. mazda should really recall this pcv hose again. the thing is even bad to customers. because the design defects and uncertainty of the part make the hose really special, no retail stores carry this hose. the only place you can find it is at mazda dealership, and it costs $67, much more expensive. it?s just a rubber hose, usually a couple of dollars. i called the mazda usa, they told me since the original recall was performed on my van, i have to pay for this repair. i did some research on this issue, lot of mazda owners have this problem, and i don't know how many owners reporting this issue.http://forum.mpvclub.com/viewtopic.php?t=17546. *tr.Mazda Mpv 2002 problem was reported in ELK GROVE, CA. Mazda Mpv 2002 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10330581 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on Apr 30, 2010.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . complete transmission failure at 67,000 miles in our 2002 mazda mpv2. all routine maintenance had been performed. i was driving on the highway (thankfully close to home) at the start of rush hour and was unable to maintain 40mph - the car would not shift down, the revs increased, but i had no acceleration. i was able to get most of the way home before the transmission started audibly whining and came to a complete stop. my 10 year old and i pushed it into the side of the road. we had the car towed to the local transmission shop who said we would need the transmission replaced. mazda would not consider any out-of-warranty help unless we had the vehicle towed to a mazda dealership (at a cost of $100 for us) and diagnosed there (another $100). having done this, they said no help would be made available. they said this was at the discretion of the area service manager, but refused to give his contact details so we could not discuss this with him. we have researched this problem on this website, looking at problems listed under automatic transmission. the numbers of complete transmission failures needing replacement are as follows for the specific years: 2000 = 1 probable failure; 2001 = 1 probable failure; 2002 = 40 complete failures; 2003 = 1 failure; 2004 = 2 failures; 2005 = 0 failures; 2006 = 0 failures. it seems clear to us that there is a problem with the 2002 mazda mpv transmission. people should realize that mazda are not standing behind their product when there is an obvious problem like this. what will it take to get mazda to accept some responsibility? it looks like this will cost nearly $4000 to fix. i don't think we'll be buying another mazda ..ever. *tr.Mileage was 67000 miles. Mazda Mpv 2002 Exterior LightingMazda Mpv 2002 Exterior Lighting Review #10382985 MAZDA MPV 2002 car safety problem was reported on Feb 16, 2011.MAZDA MPV 2002, manufactured by MAZDA MOTOR CORP had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . i am the owner of a 2002 mazda mpv with approximately 36,000 miles . on the evening of february 16, 2011 while driving home with my daughter in the car the right fog light started a fire in the bumper. there was a recall issued for this many years ago for this exact problem. at the time of the recall, i did bring my car in and supposedly the problem was corrected. however, given what has occurred last night i strongly believe that the problem was not corrected, despite what the records with mazda say. i feel there was significant negligence in the attempt to repair this under the recall as the exact problem the recall was said to fix has actually occurred. i have contacted frank at mazda 800-222-5500 extension 1154 and he is refusing to help me with this matter. i have also contacted a local dealership, and they also refuse to help me with this matter. this is a huge safety issue that was not corrected properly and has caused damage to my car and there is still potential for additional harm as the other fog light may still be at risk. i am reaching out to you for help in correcting this matter by having mazda take full responsibility. i have done research on line and found another such occurrence that happened to driver on 9/16/2010. *tr.Vehicle was on fire. My 2001 626 transmission slips slightly when first put it into drive from park then bucks.
