I REALLY THINK I HAVE THE ANSWER, I HOPE. I have an 2002 Mazda tribute it stalls especially in hot weather. The manual says very little, but it said it may be a vapor lock. My car was parked inside a humid garage so when it stalls on me seasonally I buy a bottle of gas dryer at the gas station. Your gas tank needs to be pretty empty add the gas dryer. Go for a ride to flush it through the system, and it will work fine until the humidity builds up again.
When mine stalls it gets dangerous. I'm pushing the accelerator to the floor to give it gas I'm thinking it must need. Meanwhile braking like crazy at stop signs just to keep it running. Another safer alternative is to leave it parked walk to the nearest place to buy the gas dryer.
Recently this happened to me on a cold rainy day. Stuck away from a store so I sat for 40 minutes (it wasn't flooded) and then it started up. Maybe the weather warmed up, and just enough moisture dried out.
I have been having this problem since the first year I owned car in 2002.
I hope this helps.
