FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Nov 05, 2009.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . while driving our new 2009 f150 truck with only 3,200 miles on it, i stopped at a stop light. the truck began to idle very fast and was lurching forward, when i took foot off brake the truck accelerated very fast to 80 - 90 mph. i could hardly slow the vehicle down by applying brakes as hard as possible. i was on a freeway and continued to put it into neutral which only slowed it down for a moment .cruise control was not on and there are no floor mats in the truck. i continued down the freeway for approx. 3 miles when i decided i had to exit freeway because i was gaining speed. i put it into neutral again to exit on a off ramp doing about 40 mph. the brakes were not doing anything to slow truck down at this point. i was headed for a very busy intersection and did not want to broadside another vehicle so i then decided to crash into a row of dumpsters at the end of a strip mall. as soon as i entered the mall parking lot i through it into park which locked the steering and i stopped just few feet in front of dumpsters. we had the truck towed to nearby ford dealership. the dealer said that they can not replicate the problem and found nothing wrong with the truck. they want us to pick up truck and we refuse to drive the truck home. *tr.Mileage was 3259 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 02, 2010.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . on january 2, 2010, in austin, texas, i was accelerating in a 2009 ford f-150 supercrew to enter a restricted access highway and the accelerator pedal became lodged on an aftermarket weathertech brand floor mat at fairly close to full throttle. fortunately, there was no one in my lane directly in front of me. i was able to switch the vehicle off, shift to neutral and hold my lane position as i brought the truck to a stop. i dislodged the accelerator from the mat and then removed the mat. at that point, i restarted the vehicle and was able to continue my trip. i purchased the mats directly from weathertech on dec 27,2008. shortly after i received the mats, weathertech then sent me replacement mats for the driver and front passenger. there was no explanation for the replacement mats. curious as to the reason and concerned that i was being charged again for mats, my wife called weathertech's service line. she was told that weathertech was not "satisfied with the fit" of the first set of mats that we received. there was certainly no indication that there was any safety issue with the original mats. i compared the new mats to the original ones and could see no substantial difference, so i did not replace them, and simply put the new mats in my garage, unused. after the jan 2, 2010 event, i realized that there was indeed a change. a change that i now know to be very significant. the replacement mat has a ?cut out? for the accelerator pedal to prevent the lower end of the pedal from hanging up on the mat. obviously, i have now switched out the old mat for the new one. i certainly applaud the redesign. my concern is that i received no warning or indication from weathertech that replacing the driver?s mat was an urgent safety matter that could result in death or injury if not performed promptly. i notified weathertech of my concern in january 2010 and have received no response. *tr.Ford F-150 2009 problem was reported in AUSTIN, TX. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on May 23, 2010.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . driving a 2009 ford f-150 i was just past the grain valley exit eastbound i-70 heading back to columbia. i was in the left hand lane and pressed the accelerator to get past a car in the right hand lane. when i took my foot off the gas, the rpms went way up, as if it were floored, and the truck tried to accelerate. while there was a car in front of me, luckily there wasn't one to my right. i stood on the brakes and swerved to the right. standing on the brakes i was able to keep the speed between 60-70 mph, i threw on the emergency lights and pulled onto the shoulder. after maybe a hundred yards and throwing on the e-brake and hitting the brakes i was able to slowly bring the speed down at which point i turned the truck off. after waiting a while on the shoulder i turned the truck back on and everything seemed normal, i put the truck into drive and began to slowly press on the accelerator to get back on the highway. it was then that the rpm's again kicked way up and the truck began to try and take off. luckily i wasn't going very fast and rode the brakes and turned the truck off. i then called a tow truck. there were no injuries. the extent of damage to the truck is unknown as it has not been taken to the dealer yet to get fixed. *tr.Mileage was 12763 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on June 15, 2010.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS . i have an 09 f150. my problem is with the tire pressure monitoring system (tpms). it keeps indicating a tire pressure sensor fault. i took it to one ford dealer and they replaced 3 of the wheel sensors. i went on a 1600 mile trip after that and i continued to get tire pressure sensor fault. the problem is intermittent. i took it to another ford dealer and they said that the previous ford dealer had installed them incorrectly. this was not the case. after consulting with the original dealer we determined that they installed correctly. i was told that ford now says that certain electronic devices like cell phones and gps's may interfere with the system. my truck has had the problem with no gps or cell in the cab. after doing some research on ford's tpms system i found that this has been a problem since ford started using it. on all models whether car or truck people are having the same "tire pressure sensor fault" error show up. i feel ford should recall there all vehicles equipped with this system and have them replaced with a system that is reliable. the manual says that while the system is in error mode that the system may or may not work. i think this is a huge safety issue because while i do not rely solely on the system to monitor tire pressure i'm sure there are a lot of people who do and others who could have a tire going down and may not know it until its to late. my mother in laws 05 explorer has the same system with the same error message. ford needs to do something before someone gets hurt. *tr.Mileage was 19500 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 20, 2011.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . **catastrophic fuel tank failure** two days ago my 2009 f150 died in my driveway, it acted as if out of fuel even though the gage read over half a tank. i had it towed to a ford dealer and was initially informed that the truck was out of gas and the fuel gage wasn't working. a new unit was ordered and once the tank was removed from the truck it was discovered that the issue was exceedingly more severe. the mechanic and a ford engineer concluded that the charcoal purge valve failed and the fuel pump created such a strong vacuum that the fuel tank collapsed on itself and crushed the fuel pump.although the truck has only 15,000 miles it is not a warranty repair due to a salvage title on the vehicle. after the inspection it was concluded that the fuel tank unit was not damage or effected by any incident and was in standard operating condition when the event occurred.i also understand that since this is not a warranty repair, ford will not be collecting the parts for further evaluation. i believe this to be a mistake! i have asked to keep these parts and will provide them to ford if need be. as an engineer i believe this to be a design flaw that could present a severe safety hazard. *tr.Mileage was 15000 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 08, 2001.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with EQUIPMENT . i was on the interstate 30 east bound just east of downtown fort worth traveling at 55 mph in my 2009 f 150. i began accelerating to overtake a slower vehicle. the throttle stuck at what seem to be a wide open position, i had passed the car and let off the gas and pressed the brake 3 times before for the truck stopped accelerating and i had reached a speed of 95 mph before i was able to get the truck back under control. it seemed like the throttle was stuck for around 10 seconds, which was a very scary 10 seconds. i just finished reading a few forums where the dealership said it was the rubber floor mats that caused the problem. well i have not put floor mats in my truck so that was defiantly not the cause of the problem. *tr.Mileage was 33527 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Feb 22, 2012.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with STEERING . during an inspection the power steering hose was found to be leaking. advised by service agent to take to dealer as a warranty issue. took it to the dealer, they said new power steering hose is required and sent on my way after being told hose is ordered. more than a week later i find out, after searching online that people have been waiting 10 weeks for the same replacement part from ford, the only supplier of this particular hose! i contacted ford because the dealership does not respond to phone calls and was told that the dealer says that it is safe to drive. well i feel that any leaking power steering hose is a safety issue. the response from ford was to purchase a large container of power steering fluid and continually top up the fluid. they said this advice was from the dealer. this issue needs to be reported simply because the more you drive the higher the risk of a catastrophic failure of the steering and the risk of death or injury to the driver and occupants. it also needs to be highlighted the blase attitude of ford and their dealers to this matter. it was certainly of big enough concern initially for the dealership to try and find a rental vehicle that they would pay for in lieu of loss of transport as was concerned that the vehicle was not safe to drive for long distances. *tr.Mileage was 20509 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 22, 2012.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . truck parked in garage from sat evening 4/21/2012 from short 9 mile trip. truck started around 10:30 a.m. sun 4/22/2012. removed from garage for 3 minutes then returned to garage. shut off. left residence in another vehicle. returned around 7:30 p.m. opened the garage to find a smoky haze coming from it. the entire garage was hot. i noticed drips of some substance under the truck and on the running boards. i immediately realized it was the undercoating that was warm enough to melt and drip. i got into the truck to start it up but the battery was dead. it was warm enough in the cab of the truck to liquefy tootsy rolls that were in there. i could not get the truck in neutral to push it out of the garage. after a short period with the garage doors open and everything seeming to cool down. i used a battery charger to try start the truck. it would just click and not roll over. with the charger there was enough power to put it in neutral and push the truck out of the garage. there we used a commercial battery starter and the truck started up. there was a check engine light on all the time but it seemed to run fine. all gauges read where they were supposed to. the water temperature gauge was immediately at the warmed up line upon starting. left it outside overnight. following morning drove it 10 miles to local ford dealership. they tested everything and could not find anything wrong with it. the dealership called their hotline and they had never heard of anything like that happening before.. there was nothing else in the garage that was affected. *tr.Mileage was 45000 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 18, 2012.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . i was entering an on-ramp onto the interstate and accelerating at the time. as i was nearing the end of the ramp, i felt the truck was traveling faster than i had intended. i removed my foot off of the accelerator only to hear the engine revving and watched the speedometer continue to climb. i was traveling between 80-85 mph by the time i was entering the interstate approaching a tractor trailer truck. i stood with both feet, straight legged with 130 pounds on the brake while not only trying to avoid the tractor trailer in front of me, but watching another tractor trailer approaching me from behind. my speed continued to climb as the accelerator remained stuck. after approximately half a mile of me standing on the brake, i heard a loud bang as the accelerator let go and my braking took effect. i took it to the closest ford dealership who "could not duplicate the problem, the peddle must have been stuck on the floormat". as i was not satisfied, i then took it to the dealership where i had purchased it only to be told the same thing. as the person driving the vehicle, i can assure you, it wasn't stuck on the floormat. the same thing occurred to my husband as he accelerated to pass a vehicle. however, the period of acceleration did not last as long as this last episode. both dealerships were made well aware of both incidents. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 43740 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on May 02, 2013.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . after the onboard computer system detected a fault from the abs sensors (rear wheels were 17" and fronts were 18" so rears turned faster than fronts), the drive-by-wire (acceleration) software suddenly limited me to the speed at which i was traveling at the time: 50mph. even though i pressed the accelerator to the floor, i got no further acceleration. lights and warnings on the dash indicated an abs and brake problem; there were no such problems. at the time of the "override", i was about to merge into freeway traffic traveling approximately 20mph faster than i was moving thus leading to the probability of a rear end collision. i moved closer to the shoulder and (wild guess) pushed the button for skid control (?)--two squiggly lines on the button. had the override occurred 4-5 seconds later, i would likely have been injured. i had installed 18" wheels on the front with the intent of installing 18" wheels on the back the next day. the vehicle came with 17" wheels. i had driven approximately 20 miles with that 18-17 configuration before i experienced the warnings and corresponding speed limitation. drive-by-wire means drive-by-software. someone made my driving decisions for me and those could have resulted in my injury or death. vehicle testing can no longer center on performance measurements only. true safety testing must include an assessment of the "safety" software where drive-by-wire systems are used. i purchased the vehicle on 2/25/2013 from carmax; 43,124 miles. the vehicle was in good condition with no prior history of accident or major repair. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 44000 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on June 07, 2013.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . i was accelerating up a small hill. i reached 30mph and stopped accelerating. the truck continued to accelerate slowly at around 2000rpms after i took my foot off the pedal. i shifted the truck into neutral and the rpms slowly increased as it was no longer under load. i tapped the accelerator and they surged up to 4000 where they were capped by the computer. i used my brakes to come to a stop in the middle of the street and turned the truck off. i waited a few seconds and started it back up. the tachometer showed 1000rpms and then down to 700-800rpms. i continued home. this has happened 5 other times with this vehicle. i am still troubleshooting the problem, but it is not caused by floormats and i have ruled out the cruise control being part of the issue. the last time it happened, i engaged/disengaged the cruise control while the truck was accelerating on the interstate with no change in behavior. it appears to be mechanical to the throttle body or a computer malfunction somehow. it is a difficult problem to replicate and does not happen every trip. i am going to inspect/clean the throttle body and clean the mass air intake sensor. i haven't ever had a vehicle act this way and think there is a major problem if you have to turn a vehicle off to reset it. losing power-steering/brakes is the problem with doing this while the vehicle is under way. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 21500 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 02, 2012.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . first, the fuel door fell off the truck. later that evening i heard a weird suction sound coming from the fuel door area. it began to idle rough, then would not want to start after fill ups. when you would stick the gas nozzle in the tank a loud "whoosh" sound would emit as it relieved pressure. my gas gauge stopped functioning and all of these issues eventually leading to the tank imploding/collapsing on itself. this bent the fuel pump and gas gauge inside the tank. i paid out of pocket to have it fixed because the ford dealership told me the warranty only "covered moving parts". i asked if the fuel gauge float and fuel pump moved. they enjoyed my rhetoric, but declined to fix the problem. they only replaced a sensor that threw a lean bank one code and caused the check engine light to come on. i drove it for the next year or so using the odometer to tell me when to fill up as my gas gauge no longer worked.. fast forward a year and a half, and running out of gas 3 or 4 times, and it has done the same thing to me again. i just paid $972.19 to a private garage to replace the fuel pump, but i only got a 90 day warranty on the work and no guarantee that this issue will not happen again. when i googled the make and model of the truck i found all kinds of information about people having the same problem, yet ford acted like they have never heard of this before. i understand i am responsible for keeping the truck running, but nothing about the way i operate the vehicle made it do this. if i get in a wreck, i should pay to fix it. this is a design flaw and should be recalled. btw i was doing 70 mph on the interstate when it shut down most recently and traffic had me boxed in. it nearly caused a collision just getting it off the road. had i died, no one would have questioned what caused the accident. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 40000 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 10, 2014.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . truck steering "went out" and the power steering worked on and off. found out is was lower steering shaft, i had just replaced a power steering hose, the problem was not solved. anyway the new lower steering shaft did solve the problem (cost of over $320.00 to me) but really at less than 70,000 miles, and a very conservative one man driver a family truck not business truck, not rough! the truck is parked outside and i did notice recalls further north due to cold and rough winters. i live in se michigan and perhaps that recall should head south a bit. total spending was over 650.00 dollars for both jobs. an f150 with big steering problems and big cost with less then 70,000, not anyone's idea of "built tough". i have been behind the wheel of many vehicles and traveled well over a million miles in over 50 years of driving and i never had to replace these parts. there is a concern here as when steering goes so does control of truck! junk oem parts ????? recall needed?? i think so................ *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 69800 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on May 23, 2014.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR . we are the owners of a 2009 ford f-150. a couple of years ago we received a letter in the mail stating there was a recall on the door and that we needed to take it in for repairs. we followed procedure and took our truck in to the dealership & the recall issue was fixed (or so we thought) and we never gave it a second thought. well, fast forward to a little over 1 month ago ( approximately 3 years after the 'recall' issue was fixed ), our truck was rear ended by another vehicle. not a major accident, but a fender bender. when the other vehicle hit our truck, the side passenger door opened/ unlatched. the original recall stated it would/ could unlatch during a side impact, but the recall should have fixed that. in our minds that problem was fixed & we had peace of mind. well our truck did not receive a side impact, but a rear end impact, and the door issue apparently was not fixed at all. the passenger door opened/ unlatched and mind you, this was a fairly minor accident. only property damage, no bodily injuries. i am now scared for our safety as i don't feel my family is safe in our truck should another accident occur, especially a bigger impact accident, & having the door unlatch like that instead of properly protecting those inside. i'd love to know what can be done to fix this issue? my family's safety is at stake here. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):1FTRX12889K. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 22, 2014.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . our truck was parked in a parking lot. we had entered a store about twelve minutes before. no one was in the truck and it was turned off. someone came running into the store and yelled there is a green ford f 150 on fire in the parking lot. we ran out to see the truck up in flames. after the fire was put out the cab had melted and all the left side of the drivers side.was burned and melted. the windshield had. racked and broken in many pieces from the hot fire. had aaa tow the truck to a auto repair shop. it was totaled called ford co and they told me that they have had no complaints of a spontaneous fire with these trucks. today they called and said they determined it should just be handled with the insurance company. they took no responsibility. aaa had not sent them any paperwork yet on the incident. but they determined with no knowledge of what evidence was going to be reported that they did not have to handle it. found on google a complaint sight where 44 people have had the same problem. i am very unsatisfied with the ford co and the way they just dumped this issue..Vehicle was on fire. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 170000 miles. FORD F-150 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 10, 2014.FORD F-150 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY . in april 2014 i noticed a vast amount of water collecting on the driver's side front floor. there was a leak coming from the sunroof down the headliner and through the post to the floor. i inspected the sunroof and found the drip pan to be wet. i poured a little water through the drain hose and it did not go through. i brought it to ford for repair and was told that the drain hose was kinked and was like that from the factory. they cut the drain hose to the correct length and adjusted the sunroof. they advised me that the vehicles extended warranty did not cover it. i paid out of pocket $210. fast forward to december 10, 2014, when i noticed water coming from the passenger side front assist handle. i went to ford for service and mentioned this to the service tech and was told that everyone who has a sunroof was experiencing this due to the heavy rain. this morning december 17th, i noticed water in the same area coming from the handle. i checked the sunroof and did not find the pan to be wet. i called ford and advised them, and they told me to bring it in december 22nd for another water test. they also advised me that this would not be covered under warranty, so i will again have to pay out of pocket. this truck has 19,000 miles on it and it can't be driven in rain. the sad part is that ford knows about these problems and does nothing to fix them..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 17575 miles.
