Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 SeatsFord Escape Hybrid 2009 Seats Review #10283776 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 11, 2009.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SEATS . on september 11, 2009 i was involved in a rear-end collision. i was hit from behind by a towing truck while i was stopped at a red light. i spun around and went into the intersection. there was significant damage to my vehicle, a 2009 ford escape hybrid. upon inspection i noted that the back of the front driver's seat (the one i was sitting in) had collapsed backward so that the back and headrest were laying down and in the back (still attached to the seat however). i was alarmed as if i had someone in the back behind me they would have sustained serious injury if not death. i was alone however and sustained some aches and pains including a neck injury. i do not know whether the vehicle will be totaled yet. i do not know if i will have ongoing neck issues. i assume the back of one's seat is to remain upright in a vehicle crash. i looked on line and this seems to be a defect in my ford. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 1 person(s) were injured. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Review #10291324 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 18, 2009.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . we purchased the car new on august 11, 2009. on or about september 18, 2009 while traveling down a steep hill at approximately 25 to 30 mph we lost brake power. specifically, there was no response as brake foot moved 2/3 of the way to the floor. in last 1/3 of the way as braking foot moved to and made contact with the floor, there was only a weak response. it took several seconds to stop the vehicle. brake light was on. we were terrified. we took the car to the nearest dealer. they had the car for 5 days, after which time they informed us that they had replaced a faulty booster travel switch. they assured us that the problem would not reoccur. however, on or about october 15, 2009, the problem did reoccur. this time my spouse was driving and had leveled out after rising a steep hill. he attempted to apply the brakes. again, no response for the first 2/3 of the way as braking foot moved to floor. only a weak response in last 1/3 as braking foot hit the floor. brake light was on. again, my spouse was unable to timely stop the vehicle. my spouse was terrified. both times, when we shut the car off and turned it back on, normal braking function resumed. we took the car to the nearest dealer again. they kept the car for 18 days. ford corporate sent their engineer to oversee the repairs. they were apparently able to duplicate the error in their testing of the vehicle. they replaced the wiring harness and have stated that the vehicle is safe to drive. however, we are afraid to drive the vehicle based on our two scary experiences with this new car with less than 1400 miles on it, as well as what we have read about other recurring problems with fev filed with nhtsa and other sources such as the "ford hybrid escape brake problem" forum at edmunds.com. *tr.Mileage was 928 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 Electrical SystemFord Escape Hybrid 2009 Electrical System Review #10292999 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 10, 2009.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . to whom it may concern: in late may 2009 i purchased a 2009 ford escape hybrid, from stoneham ford in stoneham, massachusetts and within a period of a month placed the vehicle into service as a taxi cab. on the night of september 10, 2009 at approximately 11:00pm, after the vehicle had been sitting unattended in our yard for a period of two hours the vehicle caught fire and was destroyed. in a report compiled by the boston fire investigation unit dated september 14, 2009, it was determined that the fire was unintentional and did not result from human factors. the report further stated that the source of ignition was located in an ¿electrical wire cable¿, on the passenger side of the engine wire harness in the area of the abs unit under the hood. after being inspected by ford motor company personnel, ford recently informed us of it¿s conclusion that the fire did not result from any default in the manufacturing or design of the car. i am trying to ascertain whether any similar under-the-hood fires involving ford escape hybrid and non-hybrid similar vehicles have been reported to you. kindly forward to me all documentation relating to similar under-the-hood fires within the last 3 years involving both ford escape hybrids and non-hybrid escape. in addition, please notify me whether this model has ever been the subject of any recall notifications within the last 3 years. thank you for your cooperation in this matter. *tr george summers .Vehicle was on fire. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 SteeringFord Escape Hybrid 2009 Steering Review #10296490 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 10, 2009.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with STEERING . on oct 25th 2008 we purchased a 2009 ford escape hybrid from encinitas ford. on april 11, 2009(mge 3809.4)while driving between 40-45 up a small incline and the steering wheel jerked hard to the right and put me into the other lane of traffic beside me. this same instance just happened again on 12/10/09 (6856.0 mge) but i was going between 30-35 under battery and trying to curve to the left when the steering stiffened up again quickly and veered me to the right off of the road. i dropped the car at the dealership on 12/14/09 and they can't find anything wrong to come and get it. i am so upset that they think this is an acceptable solution. if i were going even 5 miles per hour faster, i would hit a very large oak tree. i do not feel safe driving this vehicle, and am very afraid that my chances for an accident to myself or others has just increased 10-fold! i called ford motor company on 12/14/09 at 4:30pm (pac time) and filled out their online complaint form. on 12/16/09 at 9:17am, a rep from ford called me back and said he is opening a "claim" to investigate the problem. he was headed out of town and asked if he could have until tuesday, 12/22/09 to return a call to me between 12:00-4:00pm i said that was fine. *tr.Mileage was 6856 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Review #10442798 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 26, 2011.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . two weeks ago, at 50,000 miles and just back from the dealer's service, my brakes failed at start-up: very little braking action and a warning on the dash. i drove it around the block and went through four stop signs. i had it towed back to the dealer, where it has been ever since. the technician there found a code for "over-extended brake pedal" -- naturally the result when the brakes fail and the pedal goes to the floor. the service manager says they cannot duplicate the failure despite frequent attempts, and that ford will not authorize repair unless they can see the failure for themselves. the "customer service" manager at ford headquarters, implies that ford's engineers are unaware of this kind of problem and have no explanation for it -- a position that is belied by the many posts on ford escape hybrid brake problem forums. the dealer's technician was more honest: he said "we can't replace the system without ford's approval, and they won't approve that because of the high-dollar parts." my reading of more than 150 posts on the web shows that 1) this problem has plagued the escape hybrid since 2005, 2) the problem often goes away immediately, only to recur unexpectedly later, and 3) ford usually refuses to fix the problem, even when the car is, like mine, still under warranty. *tr.Mileage was 49398 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 Power TrainFord Escape Hybrid 2009 Power Train Review #10449908 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Feb 26, 2012.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN . the wrench light illuminated indicating a power train failure. we immediately took the vehicle to our ford dealership the next morning. diagnosis revealed a faulty blend door actuator motor in the rear which controls air flow to the hv battery. the dealer said it would not be covered by warranty. the vehicle is only 2 months out of the 3 year warranty period and has only 28,000 miles on it. the power train warranty is 5 years/60,000 and the vehicle is still within that warranty period. the dealer says that component is not covered by the power train warranty even though the vehicle itself and all documentation says it is part of the power train system. this is a highly dangerous problem and if not fixed, could result in the hv battery overheating and causing a fire or serious damage to other components. this is a known problem on 2006-2008 models, including the mariner hybrid, and a tsb was issued for those vehicles. this vehicle was one of the first produced for 2009, so the problem was apparently not fixed and is carried over from the previous model year. *tr.Mileage was 28005 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 TiresFord Escape Hybrid 2009 Tires Review #10605880 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on June 18, 2014.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with TIRES . while traveling in vehicle at highway speed, vibration was noticed by occupants, and they commented to each other about it, as the vehicle had driven normally (no vibration) all day. operator checked gage cluster for any warning lights, and none were illuminated. soon after, the steering wheel began to shimmy drastically. operator stated also that at about this time, an observation was made that the low air light on the gage cluster illuminated. while maneuvering to the left, a catastrophic failure (blowout) of the left front tire occurred. a loud bang was heard, and the tread that was still on the tire rim caused major damage to the left front end of the vehicle. vehicle was maneuvered to the left shoulder of the highway and stopped, occupants were not injured, nor was any other vehicle or person involved with the incident. potential serious injury of occupants was avoided during the failure of the tire by the actions of the operator to maneuver and bring the damaged vehicle to a stop. no debris was run over during the course of the day, and that until just before the incident; nothing was out of the ordinary with how the vehicle was working. it is speculated that the left front tire of the vehicle started to de-tread as the vibration felt within the vehicle was experienced. when the wheel started to shimmy, the outer tread may have been all but delaminated from the interior core of the tire, and upon turning left, caused the floating tread to come off center from the tire, and finally shred apart destroying the components of the vehicle surrounding the immediate area of the failed tire. the tires on the vehicle have been driven 35217 miles, and treads all are evenly worn and although not measured, seem to be more than adequate depth wise. close inspection of the tires does seem to indicate that there may be minor dry rotting occurring on the side wall of the tires. *tr.Mileage was 35217 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 Service Brakes Review #10611250 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on June 28, 2014.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . i own a 2009 ford escape hybrid and on jun 28, 2014 when i was driving the brakes suddenly failed. the red brake warning lamp lit with an alarm sound and message - 'check brake system'. the brakes did not work and reverted to the fail safe mode where it required pedal to the floor to stop the vehicle. i pulled the vehicle to the side of the road and stopped. on restarting the vehicle the brakes returned to normal operation. this was very concerning as it could have resulted in an accident/injury. it did not occur for 2 weeks then on july15th, 2014 while my wife was driving the vehicle on the highway the brakes failed again with the same message and alarm. she had use the hand break and pull the vehicle to the side. on shutting down and restarting the brakes returned to normal operation. i have taken the vehicle to ford dealership and they have not been able to reproduce the issue and the brake systems checked out as working properly. there were some error codes but they were not able to provide any conclusive evidence as to the cause of this issue. all they said was there was a communication error and they cannot do anything about it. i had the vehicle taken to another repair shop after the second incident and they told me the same. they asked me to bring it back when it happens again but i do not know if they understand the risk of driving a vehicle with brake systems that can fail at any time. i have read in internet and few blogs about this issue with the ford escape hybrid vehicles and it seems to related to a flawed design. its a shame that ford is not taking any action on it. i do not understand what they are waiting for, anything involving brakes not working should be considered very serious and actions need to be taken quickly. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 problem was reported in WOODBURY, MN. Ford Escape Hybrid 2009 SteeringFord Escape Hybrid 2009 Steering Review #10673100 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 05, 2015.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2009, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . i own a 2009 ford escape limited hybrid. the pscm failed. i paid $1,322.41 to get it fixed. i read in motor trend that there is a recall - 104765, ford recall 14s05 -for this exact, specific problem with 2009 ford escapes. i called "ford customer service", opened case cas5784872, and was told that the recall applies to every car but mine because my vin wasn't included! however, my problem is not with my vin, but with the exact, specific part that was referenced in the recall. ford admitted that it manufactured and installed a defective pscm, but is hiding behind a lame excuse that it doesn't apply to my defective pscm because it (ford) neglected to list my vin in the recall. ford customer service assured me that they would contact nhtsa but i do not believe them, so i am. i think they say this to blow-off owners with complaints so nhtsa doesn't find out about them. they lost my trust with their lame excuse - "it's your vin that's the problem, not our defective part." feel free to contact ford and reference my complaint..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 84500 miles. my 95 ford exploere engine surges when turn my air conditioner on Ihave a 1994 ford probe which has started to idle very low and stalls at times. It is a 4 cyl. w/ air and a 5 speed. any ideas? I replaced the fuel filter, air flow meter and added HEAT to gas tank to dry and clean fuel system. I think my pcv valv should a standard transmission truck start when it is in gear without the clucth engaged? should a 2005 standard transmission ford ranger start when in gear without the clutch engaged? 96 Ford F250 Emergency brake lever gets caught on the auto adjustment spring, causing brakes to be permanently engaged, also allowing the parking break lever to rub against the hub, which can cut through over time. try pushing the pedals button closer to you. you must have the pedal adjustment button to the left of the radio, looks like a foot, that brings the pedals more inward towards the driver. hope it helped. or look carefully if a wire has corroded. it i would check ur multi switch on ur stearing colum on the pedal whats the sound Just bought an '06 E-350 van. Left d'ship got on highway and noticed shimmy when I got to 60....same problem???? that happened to me last night! If you rock the car back and for while shifting then it should release the safety lock! why does it take turning off the veh. while pulling in on the shifter arm, them starting it again while still holding it inwards ever so slightly??
