NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 02, 2011.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with STEERING . on tuesday, august 2, 2011, i was driving on a major expressway. while trying to exit from the expressway, the steering wheel on my 2009 nissan murano locked, making it impossible for me to turn it. i was almost hit by an 18-wheel semi-trailer truck. the incident resulted in black skid/tire marks on the side of the road by my car and the truck that was trying to avoid from hitting me. nissan's contracted towing service had to tow my vehicle into nissan's shop since the vehicle could not be driven safely after the incident. on august 3, the service advisor called to say that the problem with the steering wheel had been fixed. he indicated that the steering wheel would not turn because of a faulty serpentine belt. he said the serpentine belt was replaced, that they had test drove the vehicle before its release to me, and that the vehicle was now safe to drive. it should be noted that my nissan had previously been in nissan's shop barely a week before the august 2nd incident, on july 21st, for other defect issues which were covered by warranty. when the car was in the shop for the july repairs, the service representatives had indicated that they had done a full inspection of the vehicle. what is interesting to me is that during the full inspection, nissan did not discover anything wrong with the serpentine belt then. if the belt were wearing away, nissan should have been able to discover and disclose the wear and tear during the full inspection in late july. even after the serpentine belt was replaced on august 3, 2011, the steering wheel is still difficult to steer. i'm not sure whether this is a manufacturing/design defect, but i think this should be looked into carefully since this is obviously a serious safety issue. if a driver is slowing down to get ready to turn but suddenly cannot turn because of a problem with the steering wheel, another vehicle traveling behind could easily hit the driver in front. this could result in a tragic accident. *tt.Mileage was 69036 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 16, 2011.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with STEERING . for the month of august 2011, my 2009 nissan murano has experienced four (4) steering wheel failures that could've resulted in serious bodily injury or death. hawkinson nissan replaced the serpentine belt at least twice in less than a two-week period in august of this year because it was shredded. although the dealership had done multiple multi-point inspections this month, they reported that there was no evidence of any pending failure of the serpentine belt when they did the inspections. in addition, on august 8, 2011, the technician found a "pass side rack and pinion boot filling up with fluid from bad seal in power steering rack," according to the invoice. nissan found a leak in the power steering high pressure line. nissan repaired the problem by replacing the high pressure power line and power steering rack. they also bled the power steering fluid system and performed a front end alignment, according to the invoice. i do not think the 2009 nissan murano is safe to drive because i was nearly killed or badly injured multiple times. they need to recall the vehicle since they've attempted to correct issues with the steering wheel on multiple times with no avail. i'm afraid of them returning the vehicle to me since the mechanics obviously cannot fix the problem since it's most likely a defect that's causing the serpentine belt to constantly shred with no prior evidence of pending failure or wear and tear. *tr.Mileage was 69639 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 06, 2013.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i have been having problems with the cvt transmission and was told the factory warranty was extended to double that of its original offer due to many problems. i took my murano to the dealer to have the cvt replaced and while i was there, the dealership told me the transfer case was leaking also and would need a new seal but it was expensive. i received a call later from the dealer stating that my particular vin contained a transfer case that had no separate seal option and the entire case would need replaced for over $3,000. with very little looking i see that this has been a problem on the murano for several years and they have changed the warranty to cover the faulty cvt transmission but not the transfer case which has gone hand in hand with previous cvt's. (if it's one, it's both) apparently, if the case runs dry of oil (which it doesn't have much in the first place) it can lock up the entire drivetrain and render the vehicle un-drivable. the transfer case is directly related to the cvt and many of the failed cvt's vehicles have had cracked or leaking transfer cases as well. considering the number of incidents and awareness of nissan with this issue, it seems absurd they not remedy the transfer case issue, especially with it being a potential safety concern. but knowing that the transfer case is unserviceable and a fully enclosed, integral part of the main drive train should clearly put nissan in the hot seat for all costs for repairs labor, parts, and any other related expenses. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 98000 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Mar 12, 2014.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY . i have never owned a vehicle with this many blind spots! i have had so many "close calls" and it finally caught up to me. i was backing out of a parking place and backed into a car. the car was double parked but i looked in my mirrors and over my shoulder and never seen the car. this being said, i was already scared of my murano prior to this because of the side blind spots. i have almost hit pedestrians, cars, and bicyclists crossing the street on numerous occasions. the vehicle where the side mirrors are is way to big, along with the mirrors, there is a huge blind spot. i have been very cautious when turning because of this but never realized how the blind spot in the side rear was i till i hit that car. the rear back windows are small but the issues is the windows are to high and the body is at an upward slant leaving no view when looking over your shoulder. this gives people a sense that they can see but you can not see a car sitting at your rear quarter panel. with all of the blind spots i am afraid i will run over a pedestrian walking across the street as i am turning and now afraid i will back into something or someone due to the side rear blind spots. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 84000 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 08, 2014.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . i am the 'second' owner. the vehicle was gifted to me by my son. it passed the autocheck vehicle history report. i received the vehicle 5/11/13. failure mileage is approximate. when starting engine huge amount of white smoke exits the 2 exhaust pipes engulfing entire vehicle. this happened continually every time i started engine. contacted nissan consumer affairs directly & was referred to dealership. my son spoke directly with dealership service department. the required 30,000 maintenance was performed. after 1 week dealership recommend new engine. i was 6 months past the warranty date, but nissan refused to honor it as i was a second owner. per my son's instructions dealership removed spark plugs to soak tops of pistons. let soak over night. performed a leak down test to find all the cylinders with 60% or more leakage from rings and valves, removed oil & performed 2 engine flushes, cleaned all oil out of intake maniford, reinstalled plugs, changed oil again, performed multiple road tests. preceding service included replacing engine air filter. performing idle learning procedure. fuel system serviced, cleaned fuel injectors & throttle body. removed all build up from throttle chamber & plate. performed fuel system service and 6 cyl tune up/6 22401-ew61c plug-sparks. serviced complete coolant system. serviced automatic transmission, exchanging fluids in case up to 6 quarts. performed front & rear differential fluid exchange. dealership kept vehicle 3-4 weeks, however problem still exists although intermittently. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 25250 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 01, 2014.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . brakes suddenly became soft during a normal drive. braking effectiveness severly reduced stopping distance became noticeably extended even at speeds less than 5mph. i had to depress pedal all the way for car to begin to slow. there were no warning lights . car was taken to nissan service center 75k service + brakes fluid flush performed . problem returned 1 week later. researched online and found similar cases. some mentioned abs. i performed the following actions to verify. with car powered off brakes were ok pedal did not touch the floor when fully depressed. immediately after powering car brakes became extremely soft again pedal was able to touch the floor. turned off car disconnected battery and removed abs fuse for 10 min. brakes still ok. connected battery brakes still ok. powered on car brakes still ok . abs and tire warning lights were on. 1 mile test drive and brakes were still ok. powered off car reinserted abs fuse . brakes were ok after powering on car. all abs and tire warning lights went away . NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Oct 01, 2014.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with STEERING . the tilt steering motor has stopped working. the in and out motor went out shortly after we purchased this pre-owned vehicle in 2012. then, a few weeks ago, the tilt mechanism spontaneously tilted to the farthest down position possible. we then had to hold the control up as well as apply significant pressure upwards to get the steering wheel to return to the desired position. luckily, we were not driving at the time of this incident, however i have read in some discussion threads regarding this issue that some drivers have experienced this issue while driving. now the tilt mechanism does not work all together (in, out, up or down). we took the vehicle to our nearest nissan dealer, and they said there is no recall for this issue, and it is not covered under our warranty. i contacted nissan of north america and they have stated that there is nothing they can do to help us at this time. there are several discussion threads on the internet regarding this issue for the 2009 nissan murrano. it is only a matter of time before this causes an accident with a potential injury or worse. nissan needs to address this issue before it gets to this point..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 60000 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 08, 2014.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with ENGINE . i have less than 61,000 miles on my 09 murano. i need to know why when i list my vin, there are no recalls, yet if i search make,model,and yr.,without vin, three are listed. three which i have had all happen air bags, air bags and electricial system, and tpms (tire pressure monitoring system), says tpms was in certain states. how can you specify this recall to thoses states? people move, travel to those states, and yes, we use road salt here. my tpms came on this past july and will not go off. but, seems your recall may not apply in the south. i also, in july 2014, had all 4 motor mounts replaced. nissan said all 4 would need replacing soon after hearing a knocking when ever i started off (like at red light or stop sign). motor could fall out. nissan was going to charge me $800.00 for one (all i could affford at one time). a friend took it to a well known reputable auto store and they replaced all 4 for $900.00. now nissan would not be over charging that much, would they? yea, right. affected parts? seems there are a lot of the 153 complaints filed refer to motor mounts. have any motors fallen out to cause accident?.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 58000 miles. NISSAN MURANO 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 04, 2015.NISSAN MURANO 2009, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with VISIBILITY/WIPER . as i was driving into the parking deck in charlotte and the sunroof on my 2009 murano exploded. i am sure it was not hit by any rock or other object because i was parking. luckily, my five year old daughter and wife were not with me because this scared me. the glass cracked all the way around and i was not showered with glass as the sunscreen was closed. if i were on the highway, i would have wrecked not knowing what this was or coming from. this is a safety issue. i was able to get out in the parking deck and take pictures. as i drove back to columbia, sc, most of the loose glass blew off leaving a large hole on the top and other drivers were startled with what was happening. this has to be addressed because i have kept my car up to date with the necessary services. this is definitely a hazard that could place lives in jeopardy. apparently, this is an ongoing situation. i have contacted a lawyer for assistance if nissan north america does not address this concern. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 127789 miles.
