SUBARU LEGACY 2010 car safety problem was reported on Aug 06, 2009.SUBARU LEGACY 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with AIR BAGS:FRONTAL . air bag sensor / switch for front passenger seat malfunctioning. tested and verified with both 125lb and 135lb adult female. indicator light shows passenger air bag as off most of the time and intermittently changes to on while driving. i have had the technicians both look at and verify the problem more than once and have also recorded video showing my wife sitting normally in the seat with the airbag indicator showing "off". subaru has continued to insist that the sensor is functioning properly and has even gone as far as claiming that my wife is sitting improperly. they have tried to "re-zero" the sensor and they claim that the system is showing proper function. i was told that there is no longer a specific weight specification for the sensor (80lbs) and that it uses fuzzy logic (multiple sources of data) to determine the switch setting. i have made 4 trips to the dealership to correct the problem including leaving my new car with them for 7 days only to have it returned in the same condition them stating that it works according to subaru's policies. they have also claimed to recreate the problem on two other 2010 models of the car bringing them to the conclusion that the sensor is functioning properly. at 125 / 135lbs, my wife is well over the 80lb threshold often used to determine if an airbag should deploy or not. it is therefore dangerous and potentially life-threatening for my wife to ride in the passenger seat of our new car. *tr.Mileage was 0 miles. SUBARU LEGACY 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 20, 2010.SUBARU LEGACY 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with POWER TRAIN . we purchased the car new, december, 2009. dealer is over an hour drive from home in another state. car is pampered and kept in garage when not being used. just in a couple months developed a pronounced thump in the rear under the car. intermittent, and there is a feel of the car vibrating or shimmying, if very slightly at the same time. we back out of driveway into street turning wheel to left, straighten, drive forward 80 feet to the stop sign. accelerate and turn to the right, there is a thump from under the rear of the car. next stop to the right it doesn't do it. only at the next turn to the left does it make the same thump. we took everything possible that might roll, out of the car, and it still does it. cannot seem to duplicate at the dealer. the first service we expressed concern, they looked at it and said they tightened a bushing. they have had the car 4 times since for other issues of rattles and noises, a couple recalls for defective hose and wiring and recently blue-tooth failure which we are still going around with them. they replaced sound deadening in the doors because it harmoniously vibrated at the pitch of scraping finger nails on the chalkboard, and give me the deer in the headlight look when i mention the first service and the term, bushing. when i take coworkers out to lunch, they say, what was that noise (thump), so i know i'm not imagining it. my concern is that something in the suspension is shifting back and forth, side to side, and something is going to fail, causing loss of control or death. makes me afraid to drive car. 14 months of ownership and we only have 8,650 miles on the car, so it's not like we abuse it. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1000 miles. SUBARU LEGACY 2010 car safety problem was reported on Mar 31, 2010.SUBARU LEGACY 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with AIR BAGS . front passenger airbag works intermittently. purchased new 2010 legacy from hudson subaru jersey city in mar 2010. front passenger airbag light is frequently off when i am sitting in seat (5'7" & 135lbs). is properly activated half of the time. tried many things to get airbag to turn on including: 1. with car running, unfastening passenger seatbelt and refastening 2. with car running, opening passenger door, exiting car and getting back in 3. exiting car, shutting car off, restarting car and getting back in 4. with car running lifting myself up and off seat and sitting back down as hard as possible. husband took car to hudson subaru on 11/9/10 and they recalibrated seat module and sensor. problem persisted so he called hudson subaru on 10/12/11. said they have received a number of calls regarding this issue, but that there is nothing they can do. sensor is designed to activate airbag when 90lbs of pressure is applied to seat. if a smaller person is not sitting squarely in seat, sensor may not detect persons weight and airbag will not be activated. called subaru on 10/12/11 and opened a case. also emailed subaru on 10/20. received email reply on 10/26 requesting i bring car to dealership and meet with a field rep. on 11/1 rep indicated weight setting is not 90lbs its closer to 112lbs. said he met with a couple in flemington having same issue and had to replace gel bladder in seat. he asked to see car and checked to be sure seatback not reclined and then asked me to sit in car. pointed out that backs of my thighs did not touch seat and suggested my full weight was not being detected by sensor. he kept car overnight and performed different tests, but was unable to replicate problem. he emailed me a page from owners manual which detailed how someone should sit in seat and steps an owner should take if the airbag does not activate. *tr.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):4S3BMBC68A3. SUBARU LEGACY 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 19, 2014.SUBARU LEGACY 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . on wednesday, november 19, 2014 my son left for work at his usual time and started the subaru. immediately, the engine roared at full throttle, and the vehicle took off down the street, where it jumped the curb and crashed into a tree at 45 mph. distance traveled was less than 400 feet from where it started. based on an eyewitness account, it is presumed that the vehicle suffered an unintended acceleration mechanical issue outside of the driver's control. emergency service personnel arrived within minutes, and he was taken to the major metro-area 833 bed hospital (level 1 trauma center) where he was admitted to critical care. he died peacefully and without pain on wednesday afternoon, november 26, 2014, at age 37. subaru of america was notified of this incident on friday, november 21, 2014; a detailed description, police crash report, and 18 pictures were provided, with a request for them to inspect the totaled vehicle and download available information from the black box recorder/event data recorder. (note: as of today, november 29, 2014 no action has been taken). .Vehicle was involved in a crash. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 34000 miles. SUBARU LEGACY 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 07, 2014.SUBARU LEGACY 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL . i had a major safety issue with my 2010 subaru legacy while driving on the freeway. the car was doing approximately 50 mph and i accelerated to change lanes and all of a sudden the car lost all power and eventually came to a complete halt right in the middle of fast moving traffic. i turned on my hazard light, put the car to park and restarted. the car would start but would shut down slowly in the next 2-3 seconds even before i could put it to drive and accelerate. i noticed that all the lights in the dash like traction control, check engine, etc all lit up and the car just slowly died. after trying it one more time (with same results) i shut off the car completely and started calling aaa for towing. after about a minute when i tried to re-start the car, it sprang up to life normally (i.e. without a slow shut-down like the prior two times) and accelerated when i put it to drive like nothing had happened. i was then able to get off the freeway for safety and popped the hood to see if there was anything on the surface that i could find wrong. everything looked fine, i was even able to get back home all on the freeway normally. i tried to stay on the the right lane and simulate the same (i.e. doing decent speed and then accelerating), but everything was normal. sunday being mandatory dealership closures in nj i was not able to bring it to the dealership. the whole incident was completely random and was needless to say extremely dangerous and stressful. i have contacted subaru of america and waiting for their response. in the interim i wanted to post this to nhtsa in case other such incidents have been reported. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 37000 miles.
