(this is an from a letter i sent to mercedes benz) i have had a recent experience with my mercedes benz 2005 e 320 diesel that i would like to relate. while driving in cincinnati last week, i was on a semi-rural road doing about 25-30 mph and suddenly got a beeping and red light flashing alarm on the instrument panel indicating that my brakes were failing. luckily i was able to slow down and turn into an apartment complex driveway and bring the car to a stop. the pedal went all the way to the floor and had almost no stopping power, if any. i turned off the ignition and waited a few minutes before re-starting. the car re-started but would not come out of park, so i could not move it out of the driveway to an adjacent parking lot. the brake alarm and warning continued after re-starting. i called my mechanic in cincinnati (precision motorcars 513-271-5565) and arranged to have the car towed in. after analysis by them, they determined that the sbc hydraulic braking unit was probably defective and was a mb warranty item. in the meantime, they replaced my front brake pads and rotors. the car was then towed to mercedes benz of cincinnati (where i had purchased it in february 2008). they replaced the sbc and got the brakes working correctly again, under warranty and at no charge to me. this event has certainly shaken my faith in this car. what kind of car gives you a warning that your brakes don¿t work, and then you find that they do not. if i had been in a different driving situation, such as coming up to a red light at 30 mph, i might not be writing this letter today. *tr.Mileage was 85000 miles. Mercedes Benz E320 2005 Fuel/propulsion System Review #10508485 MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005 car safety problem was reported on Mar 01, 2013.MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005, manufactured by Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . i own a 2005 mercedes benz e 320. i noticed the smell of gasoline coming from the car, especially after filling up, for several months. it had gotten progressively worse over time, so i had it checked early on by my mechanic but observed no leaks. the gas vapors continued to become worse, so bad that i had to park the car outside for fear of explosion and/or fire. my gas water heater is in the garage and my childrens bedroom is above it. early on, my whole family began having headaches, nausea, and burning watery eyes. we now know it was gasoline vapors emitting from the faulty gas tank seals which are located below the rear seats. i took it to the dealer near my home; walters mercedes benz. the service agent, [xxx], called and said that the seals in the gas tank were leaking and it would cost $750 to replace them. also, the technician observed some possible leaking on another hose to the tank and it would be $2,400 to have the whole tank replaced. i found this outrageous, but had no other choice. after doing some research i found that mercedes had a recall because of the same problem to other cars similar to mine. the service managers at walters said that my vin number didn't match the recall. so, i called mb usa (800-367-6372) to have a case opened. Mercedes Benz E320 2005 Fuel/propulsion SystemMercedes Benz E320 2005 Fuel/propulsion System Review #10524400 MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005 car safety problem was reported on Jan 02, 2012.MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005, manufactured by Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . when 2005 e320 has gas tank filled, there is an overwhelming fuel odor in the passenger compartment and outside the vehicle. the fumes dissipate when the fuel level decreases from full to 3/4. car was taken to mercedes dealer for service and this problem was listed for the repair person. they found no problem. year and a half later, i again asked mercedes dealer to look at this issue. they said it was a leak in the fuel sending unit which is connected into the top of the gas tank. at a cost of $800, the fuel sending unit was replaced. i picked up the vehicle and the fuel smell inside the car was so strong it made me and two clients nauseous with severe headaches the following day. i returned the car to the dealer, and upon further inspection, they now tell me the fuel sending unit was leaking but the gas tank itself also is cracked and leaking which needs to be replaced for another $2,000. i opened a complaint with mercedes benz usa. after their sham of an investigation, they said they would offer me a 50% discount on the fuel tank replacement or assistance on the purchase of a new vehicle. the car now has 118,000 miles and is out of warranty. i have no choice but to make the repairs. you should not have to replace a gas tank on a vehicle of any age, and i am afraid of continued safety problems from poor engineering design with the replacement parts if the car is involved in any accident. *tr.3 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 75000 miles. Mercedes Benz E320 2005 TiresMercedes Benz E320 2005 Tires Review #10653217 MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005 car safety problem was reported on July 26, 2014.MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005, manufactured by Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. had a problem with TIRES . in june of 2011 i purchased a set of four michelin p215/60r16 primacy mxv4 tires for my 2005 mercedes benz e320 automobile. in july of 2014 one of the tires failed (lost air pressure while parked) while my wife and i were on a weekend trip out of town. the local tire shop that repaired the flat informed us that the tire could not be repaired – the sidewall had failed and the tire would need to be replaced. the failed michelin tire had been installed for 3 years and had 50% of the usable tread wear remaining (measured later by discount tire). we temporarily replaced the tire with a non-michelin tire and saved the failed michelin. when returning from our trip we took the failed michelin back to the discount tire shop where we had purchased the set. using the road hazard guarantees when purchasing the set, discount tire replaced the failed michelin with a new michelin. while performing other vehicle maintenance in september of 2014 i observed a second michelin tire with a sidewall crack following the wheel bead for several inches before progressing radially. i again took the failed michelin back to the discount tire shop where we had purchased the set. the failed michelin tire had approximately 50% of the usable tread wear remaining. using the road hazard guarantees when purchasing the set, discount tire replaced the failed michelin with a new michelin. in october of 2014 i purchased a used car with michelin tires installed. since recently experiencing michelin tire failures i examined the used car michelins and, sure enough, i discovered a tire with three significant incipient sidewall failures. these sidewall failures of different year manufacture michelin tires seems to me to indicate a pattern of quality control problems. my limited experience with these failures seems to indicate that having the tire on a vehicle front position accelerates crack propagation. i would like to attach pictures of the tires (foot long crack - worst case)..Mileage was 79600 miles. Mercedes Benz E320 2005 Fuel/propulsion System Review #10667611 MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005 car safety problem was reported on Jan 07, 2013.MERCEDES BENZ E320 2005, manufactured by Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC. had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . 1. fueling the vehicle- after fueling the vehicle and filling up the tank, a very very strong odor of gasoline/fumes stays in the cabin of the vehicle days or until gas tank drops down to under half a tank. 2. fumes are so strong, causes occupants headaches and nausea 3. vehicle stopped on idle- when coming to a complete stop, vehicle begins to choke, as if its about to turn off. need to put the car on neutral and press the accelerator to stop the car from choking. 4. turning- when making turns- the vehicle will randomly choke as if not receiving any gas, and as if its about to turn off. the power steering also goes inactive, leaving it almost impossible to make the turn. this is very dangerous especially on left hand turns at intersections. i have stopped turning in front of oncoming vehicles because i do not trust the vehicles response. i cannot predict when these episodes of non-response to acceleration will occur. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 75000 miles.
