Lincoln Aviator 2003 Vehicle Speed Control Accelerator Pedal Review #10014003

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Mar 30, 2003.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL:ACCELERATOR PEDAL . defective and possibly deadly 2003 lincoln aviator made by ford motor company 1.car purchased on 2/15/03. picked up same day on 2/15/03. 2.gas pedal snaps and breaks almost causing a high speed collision! on 03/30/03 - on sunday, 03/30/03 i am taking my daughter to ice skating practice with this car. i am driving down the long island expressway (i-495) in the left lane. my exit is coming up so i have to get over. in order to do so i must speed up quickly to get around another car. i hit the gas pedal. i am starting to speed up when all of the sudden the cable or something snaps and the pedal goes to the floor. a piece of plastic gas pedal flyâ??s off the floor and lands in the passenger seat next to me. it is â½ the gas pedal itself (i still have this piece in my possession for proof). - i am now loosing power into oncoming traffic while trying to get over at that very moment. i can not hit the brake due to traffic while trying to get over. i swerve to the right and a mack truck darts over to the left to avoid hitting me. i manage to get to the shoulder of the road. my daughter is now screaming and scared and i am visibly shaken by this event. - i wait 2 hours for a tow truck. the driver himself cannot believe what he sees. the car is towed to neil lincoln mercury. i go into the dealer and vinney & adam are both there to talk to me. they tell me they have never heard of anything like this and do not blame me for wanting a refund. 3.follow up with neil lincoln mercury - on monday; 03/31/03 i call neil lincoln mercury. i am now dealing with frank the service manager. i cannot drive a car i do not feel safe in with my family! he agrees and says this is a problem he has never seen before as far as gas pedals breaking while driving. fords track record stinks! they will wait for people to die before they fix the problem. this is a seriously defective vehicle. *jb .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1140 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Electrical System Wiring Review #10033373

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Aug 23, 2003.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING . there is a high frequency sound emanating from all 4 speakers. this noise is constant and can be overheard with the volume up and the radio playing. leith lincoln (raleigh,nc) denied the problem. ford dispatched an engineer and their east coast customer service rep. all claimed they could not "duplicate" the problem. i then confronted leith with a video tape of the noise and got a confirmation that the noise is at least a nuisance. i've been in contact with ford and they will not fix the problem. finally i brought the aviator to another dealership (michael jordan lincoln in durham) and they "duplicated" the concern. i asked the technition what he suspected might be and he said he did not know. i asked if hey was willing to look into it but he said he was instructed by ford not to further invistigate the problem on the grounds that the noise is a "feature" of all aviators. i have video of the sister car at leith that shows that the noise is not present in that car (just like at the time i bought mine). i spoke to a local audio center and they said it is an electrical problem likely due to a faulty ground wire. for more information on my story, visit http://www.brunners.ws/lincoln-lemon/. *ak.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 850 miles. LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Oct 11, 2003.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SUSPENSION:REAR . in the lincoln aviator, a loud whining noise is coming from the rear end of the car. it appears to be a rear differential problem. in the front seat the noise is pretty loud but can be overcome by turning the radio up real loud. in the rear seats the noise is more intense. i have read many complaints about this problem. a simple search on edmunds, google, deja news, etc. shows that this problem has been around a while and ford motor company refuses to correct the issue. the dealership says it is a known problem without a fix and that i should just live with the problem. i am going to pursue legal action under the lemon law to try and correct the situation. *la.Mileage was 500 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Service Brakes, Hydraulic

Lincoln Aviator 2003 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Review #10069649

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Sept 15, 2003.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . 1. i was sitting at a traffic light first thing in the morning when all my warning lights on the dash came on and my car died. it said low oil pressure. i was able to get the car restarted, and have not experienced the problem again. dealer indicated they could detect no problem. 2. paint in door jambs different color than rest of vehicle. dealer indicated in small crash, probably at time of unloading vehicle...damage repaired and repainted. i had them repaint to make car same color. 3. other - this is my most frustrating problem. when it gets hot out (90 degrees or more), the left side passenger door moulding expands and sticks to the driver door. i cannot open the back door without forcing it, which has chipped the paint on the inside of the front door. this has also happened on the passenger door, but not to the same extent as the driver side. all mouldings have been replaced once, but the problem continues. i have had it in about another six times since for the same problem...most of the time being told there is nothing they can do or there is no problem. they are now ordering some new moulding which will hopefully correct the problem. also, it took me three trips for them to finally fix the air conditioned seat on the passenger side which stopped working. the first time i was told the entire component was replaced...i drove off the lot, and again it wasn't working. i took it back and was pretty much told i was an idiot, it was working. i drove off the lot, it wasn't working. i took it back again, and they found a loose connection in the wiring, which they finally fixed. it now works. 4. the first time i mentioned the squealing brakes, they checked them out and said it was normal. i took the vehicle back again, because the squealing was worse, and they replaced the brakes and pads. obviously, there was a problem!.Mileage was 7000 miles. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):5LMEU68H13Z. Lincoln Aviator 2003 problem was reported in CORONA, CA. Vehicle was not using Cruise Control. Lincoln Aviator 2003 TRANSMISSION TYPE: AUTO.

Lincoln Aviator 2003 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10112143

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Feb 22, 2005.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . my 2003 lincoln aviator lost power steering causing me to loose control of the car on a county road and missing death by god's love last tuesday,2/22/05. i struggled and managed to drag the car off the road onto the bush and avoided heating an oncoming car and being crushed by a semi-trailer that was behind me. the car was towed(flat-bedded) to the local lincoln-mercury dealership. the head mechanic told me later that my car had suffered a catastrophic birth defect from the factory because the power steering hose was improperly mounted at the time manufactured, as a consequence the hose fell off the mounting/attachment and was cut by the air condition fan. he told me new hose has been installed and mounted properly under the factory warranty. i have taken possession of the car, but i am afraid to drive it for any distance. first, i would like your office to force ford lincoln, the manufacturer of the lincoln aviator suv, to send an immediate alert to the public that this potentially fatal problem is possible in the aviator brand of their suv. if i died in the accident,my family would never know what caused the accident. we do not want any body to be hurt or killed in the lincoln aviator. second, i would like to know what my course of action should be: get a brand new replacement car or feel unsafe in a lincoln aviator for a ever? third does your office have a record of this type of problem with this line of vehicle? thank you for your quick response and assistance. unyime o. nseyo. *nm.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 30737 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10121909

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Nov 01, 2004.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . i own a 2003 lincoln aviator, still under warranty. since around november of 2004 i have been having transmission problems. the problem is the transmission will slip out of gear while driving at a steady speed, accelerating from a stop or slowing down and then accelerating. this is very hazardous when trying to merge onto a highway or turn into traffic and the vehicle will not accelerate. the problem exists in all gears, however, it does not do it all the time. it has continued to get worse. each time the dealership has told me that they could not duplicate the problem. on april 15th 2005 as i was leaving my office parking lot the transmission started acting up. it was slipping out of gear in all gears. i immediately drove the vehicle to the ford dealer. on the 21st of april almost a week after i dropped it off i was told again they could not duplicate the problem. on the same day, 21 april 05 i went to pick up my vehicle and the head mechanic had it out for a test drive. he stated upon return that the vehicle acted up. my vehicle stayed with the dealer for the next 15 days while they took apart the transmission, ordered parts, etc. a few days after i received the vehicle back the dealership called to see how the vehicle was running. i explained that it still didn’t feel right but i would continue driving it and note any problems i encounter. as of today, 23 may 05, the transmission does not always shift smoothly and i have had three occasions were the transmission took a very long time to shift from one gear to another. this to me is just a sign and the beginning of more problems. during the course of my many visits to the dealer i was informed that problems exist with my make of transmission, not only in the aviator but with the explorer and the mercury suv’s. what i don’t understand, if there is a problem with the transmission why hasn’t ford/lincoln acted on it and put out a bulletin or recall. sincerely lori bell.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 35000 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Power Train Automatic Transmission Review #10158326

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on May 08, 2006.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . '03 aviator, since purchase felt something wasn't right with the car's transmission. car seemed to hesitate shifting into next gear i.e. staying in gear too long. also at times during startup car can be extremely loud, making transmission issue more pronounced. concerns mentioned during routine maintenance appointments but was always told the car was functioning normal. winter '06 car began to idle very rough during stops and in neutral/park. 3/3/06 car serviced for rough idle -garage found ssm 17478 which said the pcm needed to be reprogrammed. car still wasn't running smoothly. 4/3/06 car back in garage for major engine problem. #8 cylinder head was replaced. i expressed my concerns and was told that this could have been causing some of the issues i was complaining about. was also told they had multiple '03 aviators come in with the same major engine problem. of course car still did not feel right. 5/8/06 and only 2,000 miles to go on my warranty the transmission finally went. pulled out from a red light when car wouldn't shift and bucked into next gear. engine light and transmission light went on and overdrive off light was flashing. transmission solenoid replaced along with many other parts. needless to say the car's been driven 2 or 3 times since we've picked it up from the garage and it is still not right. car is going back into the garage for shifting problem and excessive loud engine noise during startup that doesn't dissipate. transmission problem is huge safety concern. had cars behind me beeping and flashing their lights at me because i couldn't accelerate the car fast enough. with computers in cars makes me wonder where the voice of the consumer has gone. felt as though my concerns didn't matter because the computer didn't register anything wrong. now with only miles from my warranty ending i'm faced with all these major problems occurring with my car. *jb.Mileage was 48033 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Engine And Engine Cooling

Lincoln Aviator 2003 Engine And Engine Cooling Review #10186203

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Mar 12, 2007.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING . my 2003 lincoln aviator had a rough idle and was a little sluggish. with only 92,000 miles on a $45,000 car, this surprised me. this is a high performance engine. upon accelerating to enter i-20 the vehicle almost died. luckily ,there were no vehicles coming - had this been during rush hour it might not have been so lucky. i took the vehicle to city garage to have it checked out, and was told it had a major engine problem. the #8 cylinder had on 70 lbs of pressure, and the vehicle needed a valve job. i called lincoln customer service after find on this web site that mine was not the only aviator with this problem and with the exact same cylinder. i was told by lincoln to take it to the dealership where i paid another $100 to have it scoped again - only to be told by lincoln that they didn't intend to do anything about it. this appears to be another one of ford's major mistakes that they are not willing to take responsibility for until someone gets killed. people who own these vehicles do not expect them to die on acceleration, and it is just a matter of time before someone gets hurt. that - coupled with the fact that this is costing people who own these vehicles a good deal of money and ford's attitude was tough. .Mileage was 92000 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Power Train Automatic Transmission Lever And Linkage Column Shift Review #10192579

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on June 06, 2007.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION:LEVER AND LINKAGE:COLUMN SHIFT . on june 07 at 1100hrs the gearshift knob and gearshift boot disengaged from the console of my 2003 lincoln aviator; the gearshift and therefore transmission were locked in the d(rive) position could not be shifted to another position or disengaged. the lincoln-mercury dealer was a short distance from the gas station where i was so i elected to drive it there under the circumstances. once at the lincoln-mercury dealer a technician examined the gearshift and indicated that an incident like mine "happens all the time" ... "a screw comes loose". was advised too that likely parts would have to be ordered. repair to the aviator is estimated at $584 since the entire "shifter assembly" had to be replaced. there was no accident or injury but it is not unreasonable to expect that such a critical component would experience such a defect that apparently is or was a "known problem", and this is certainly not the level of quality expected in a $45000 "luxury" utility vehicle..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 30686 miles. LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on July 17, 2007.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with PARKING BRAKE:CONVENTIONAL:MECHANICAL . replacement of rear brakes by dealer resulted in discover of parking brake problem and replacement. the parking brake unit is located behing the brake rotor and cannot be visibly checked during routine safety inspections. the brake components were corroded to the point of disintegration and the brake pads had separated from the unit. the vehicle is out of warranty by a few months and approx. 5000 miles. i rarely use the parking brake and the dealership stated that was part of the problem and probable cause of failure of the parts. based on conversations with the dealership mechanic, and other auto mechanic acquaintances, this is apparently a common problem with this make vehicle. in an emergency the "emergency brake" would have failed and life and property would have been endangered. the explanation that non-use of a safety component can render it useless is not acceptable to me, especially since this part cannont be visually inspected during routine safety inspections.a complaint was filed with the ford motor company and the response was simply that the warranty coverage expired and that no further action would be taken. again, "unacceptable"...the old parts were not returned and i assume disposed of.. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 55209 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Electrical System Review #10403548

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on May 10, 2011.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . transmission shifter breaks and locks in place. the result is to leave the vehicle occupants stranded in a dangerous neighborhood where their personal safety is at risk. the problem is a broken $5 piece of plastic contained within the shifter knob. however, ford refuses to supply the $5 piece and instead requires the vehicle owner to purchase the entire shifter assembly (which costs almost $1000). based on the number of backorders for this piece at any one point in time, it is apparent that ford is aware of the problem and is not taking steps to remedy. the only remedy that they offer is to force the consumer to pay $1,000 in order for consumers to gain access to the $5 piece of plastic. this happened to me when i was out of town on a trip with my family. we had pulled off the road, but left the car running. when we went to place it in gear, it refused to shift out of park. we were unable to push the vehicle or move it in any way because it was stuck in park. the sun went down and we were stranded. i am unemployed and while i could afford a small repair, i couald not afford the expensive repair (the dealership also needed to charge for their labor, so the quote was over $1500). after being stranded overnight, i convinced the dealer to just show me how to shift the car without replacing the shifter. now i have to keep the gear shift knob removed (which subjects the mechanism to accidentally have the overdrive button pushed). with the knob removed, i can lift the rod to shift into gear and then must lower the rod (manually) to lock it into the selected location. failure to lower the rod allows the shifter to move freely and also prevents the keys from being removed once the shifter is again in park. fords unwillingness to provide an economic solution provides a safety hazard to consumers who trusted ford to do the right thing. please help!.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 172000 miles. Lincoln Aviator 2003 Power Train Review #10478178

LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Sept 24, 2012.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . the shifter knob on my 2003 lincoln aviator broke off. the shifter was locked in place in drive and you are unable to shift into any other gear except the gear you're in. it seems that a very cheap plastic piece broke under the shifter knob and the dealer quoted me $1200 dollars to replace the entire shifter assembly. i have checked online and seen that this is a very-very common problem among owners. there is no recall for this issue, but this is surely a severe safety issue. i am not sure how many complaints it takes but this is a horrible safety issue. also, this vehicle has a whole array of front and rear differential issues along with a severe clunking noise when the vehicle is 1st put into reverse, drive or downshifts after acceleration. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 143145 miles. LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Aug 13, 2013.LINCOLN AVIATOR 2003, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . i was backing out of my driveway into the street. once i was in the street, i put the car into drive and stepped on the gas. the car went the opposite direction- reverse. i double checked the gear shift ( in the center of the vehicle), it was "d" for drive. i made sure it was in the d, and stepped slowly on the gas, and it went into reverse. i tried to apply the brakes, but they didn't engage. i quickly stepped on the emergency brake, and that stopped the car. fortunately, i was in a cul-de-sac with out other pedestrians or vehicles at the time. it was extremely dangerous to have a car where the shift isn't engaged at all. the vehicle has been always maintained by the lincoln dealer, and it is being towed to that dealership at this time. it's too dangerous to drive. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 130000 miles.
