FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 17, 2013.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . on 1/1712013 i was driving back to my office in light traffic when suddenly i heard a ding and noticed red words appeared on my dash where the hybrid gauge normally is. it read brake system failure. i had it towed from my mechanic to the dealership mechanic. i was told it was the vacuum hose and had it repaired. on 2/15/2013, it happened again, twice. first time i was going about 30mph and made a hard right turn to a side street where once again pumping the brakes did nothing. i switched to neutral and coasted to a stop. after 10 minutes i decided to drive home and i would call the mechanics in the morning (they were already closed). en route to my house, which was 3 miles from the failure point, they failed again. same message, same ding, same problem. no brake power of any sort. i flipped on my hazard lights on, switched to neutral, which did slightly slow the car down, and rolled down a bridge. i took the first hard right turn and was able to get slow enough to grab the emergency brake and turn off the car. it has been towed back to the dealership and i will talk to them, again, in the morning when they open. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 52395 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on May 09, 2013.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY . on may 9, 2013 at approximately 8 am, shortly after entering a two lane state highway driving my 2010 ford fusion hybrid, i removed my foot from the accelerator and brake my car to stop at a traffic light 6 feet behind a stopped 2007 mercury mariner. while stopped for a few seconds, i removed my foot from the brake pedal and the car suddenly accelerated traveling approximately 6 feet, colliding into the rear bumper of the mariner. my fusion bumper slid under the mariner bumper crashing the grill and causing substantial damage (approximately $5000) to the front end and hood of my fusion. i am uncertain as to why the car accelerated. i had not had a similar experience during more than 50,000 miles of driving. it may be that the combination of the gas engine idle and/or the start of the electric motor may have caused the car to accelerate to a speed which was sufficient to cause the bumper to slide under the mariner's bumper. i have questions relative other similar events for fusion hybrids and as to why the bumper did not function as required by regulations to protect the car from damage when traveling at speeds of up to 5 mph. i have made inquiry of ford relative to the safety issues , however they were not responsive in a phone interview, which was quickly terminated informing me that the legal department would contact me. i received a letter from ford's legal department declining to compensate me, even though the compensation issue was never mentioned in my inquiry, and warning of the problems of litigation. i do not contemplate litigation. have there been similar reports filed with your agency? *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 52000 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on June 19, 2013.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . the car stalls at varied speeds which is a huge safety issue. i owned a 2010 ford fusion previously with my company fleet vehicle program, and had the same problem. i brought the car to the dealership and it was fixed without question. at that time i was unaware of this being part of a bigger problem. in the fall of 2011, i purchased a different 2010 ford fusion from our fleet as it was being turned in, and this is the vehicle that i am discussing in this forum. it only has 30000 miles on it, but is 6 months out of the 36 month bumper to bumper warranty. the car stalled once, a month ago, and the problem seemed to rectify itself. then yesterday, 6/19/2013, it stalled 6 times. my 17 year old daughter drives the car and was stuck in the middle of a very busy intersection. for almost one minute, the car would not restart, but finally did, and she was able to get out of the intersection. as i read the forums, it is obvious to me that this is a nationwide problem, looking back, i've had 2 cars with the identical problem. the service men at the dealership know that the problem is specific to the throttlebody, which is defective, and there is over a week backlog on the parts as more and more cars are having the same issue. this is a dangerous problem, to lose power to a vehicle in motion and ford is aware of this issue, yet they are taking no steps in addressing the issue. it is going to cost me $600 to have the part replaced, as it is outside the 3 year warrant, yet ford knows that this was a model wide issue with a defective car part. i am disappointed and angry that a glaring problem such as this is not being addressed due to ford attempting to let the problem hopefully just fade away and not be taken to task over this issue. i pray that the nhtsa will step in, right a wrong, and in the process prevent a tragic accident before it becomes a reality. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 30000 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Sept 01, 2013.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . on 9/1/13 i was traveling home from vacation on i95 when the wrench light came on the dash. i was driving 80 mph when the light came on and slowed down to 70 mph. the light stayed on until we made a stop and the car was off for about 10 minutes. when we started the vehicle again, the light was off. after traveling for a while the wrench light came back on again. this time i was going about 75 mph. and i slowed down to 70 mph again. the light stayed on for the duration of the trip. on 9/7/13 the light came on again on a long trip on the interstate. i was going about 70 mph. we stopped after about 15 minutes of driving to get something to drink. when the vehicle started up again the light was off. once again after driving a while the wrench light came back on and stayed on until i got home. the next day when i started the vehicle the light was off. the only thing i can gather is that in hot temperatures, driving on the interstate or faster than 70 mph, this problems exists. on both trips the morning driving did not set off the wrench light but the afternoon driving did. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 77620 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 16, 2013.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . driving up to freeway on ramp when orange wrench indicating a powertrain problem appeared on the dashboard. had just gotten onto the freeway, then about a mile down the freeway, began having a drastic loss of power until i was down to 20-25 mph. turned on my emergency flashers and made my way to the right lane and managed to get off the freeway without getting struck from behind. turned the car off and back on again, and the car ran without a problem, full power back onto the freeway. unfortunately, this incident repeated itself multiple times again, with the powertrain control module essentially shutting down the motor and forcing me to drive at speeds so slow as to be unsafe. problem is remedied temporarily by shutting off the ignition and turning it back on, with the engine behaving completely normally until the orange wrench reappears which gives me short notice that the powertrain control module will soon shut down the power to the car creating a supremely dangerous situation in traffic. made it to the dealer today, problem was a faulty throttle body obd 2 code p2112 indicated a stuck closed throttle body. repaired no charge under the 5 year/60,000 mile powertrain warranty. extremely dangerous though, hope no else has to experience this. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 49500 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Feb 07, 2014.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . my car warranty expired in late december 2013. in january i had an instance involving engine lights (wrenches on dash) illuminated as i was driving in the 54-60 mph range. power was reduced and the vehicle slowed down but could still move at about 30-35 mph. after turning off the car it later resumed normal operation with the exception that i noticed lower mpg. when i first got the car 41 mpg was the best i could get while driving to maximize mpg. through the years mpg went down to 37, stabilized, and then in recent months 35, then 30, etc. i had to pay $460 to my local ford dealer to replace the throttle body and to reprogram the computer. in light of all the problems experienced by ford vehicles with these throttle bodies, i believe ford should pay for this repair, especially since the bumper to bumper warranty coverage "timed out" (i.e. before the 36,000 mileage was exceeded) in late december 2013. i had a similar experience with vw around 2002 when a heater core in a passat (note i live in florida) went bad a few thousand miles after the bumper to bumper warranty expired. vw showed goodwill and paid the cost of the repair. ford should do the same. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 36001 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 06, 2014.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . on 1/6/14 and 1/7/14, the brake warning sign would briefly light up in the upper left end of the dashboard. the local dealership changed oil and filter and performed a multi-point inspection on 1/8/14 and found no break problem. on 1/31/14, while on cruise control at 55 mph, the car started decelerating to 50, 45 and 40 mph on the highway in just a few seconds; i did not have time to read the warning signal and i only saw the word "break." i was able to resume my driving without any further incidence. a similar deceleration incident happened on 2/3/14. the warning signal was longer and i thought i read in the upper left end of the dashboard: "brake pad engaged." the local dealer checked the break system and could not find anything wrong. the service department contacted the ford motor company that had no clue about the problem. another similar deceleration incident happened again on 2/11/14. the warning signal was longer and read:" park brake engaged." the brake signal also came on in the lower right end of the dashboard. again, i was able to complete my drive and later drive back (one hour) to the local dealer service department without further incidence. on 2/12/14, the service department notified me that it did not find anything wrong and "headquarters" is saying that it needs to see the warning signal (that lasts only a few seconds to one minute). i am telling them that i want to drive a safe car and not have it suddenly decelerate in front of a semi-truck. the car is still in the dealer's service department. i would appreciate any assistance in this matter. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 76500 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Mar 11, 2014.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . i received a low tire notification on a tire that does slowly lose air. next a 'service power steering' then ' service advanced trac' message occurred. within minutes the power steering went out and the car was almost impossible to drive. once the tire was re-inflated the low pressure light went off but the power steering still did not work. dealership says power steering needs to be replaced at $2,400 which is several hundred dollars higher than cost posted by other people with this issue. i brought up the fact that hundreds of people have complained about this issue after having a low tire or flat with the same model/year. many said that the dealership could reset the error and the power steering would work fine. i even read complaints of this happening while under warranty, the power steering being replaced 2-3 times and the problem still occurred until they changed the steering wheel angle sensor. i don't mind paying to replace the part if it is truly broken but it is too much of a coincidence that it happened at the same time as a low tire and there are hundreds of people complaining about the same thing. if it is a money grab then shame on the dealership! *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 90000 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on May 13, 2014.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . i am out of town, and yesterday i was driving the main strip in branson and out of nowhere a light on my dash appeared saying "service power steering" and "service auto trac" i thought "that's weird" so i drove 1 1/2 miles to the very next gas station, pulled in and turned off car and googled power steering problems with ford fusion hybrid,to my dismay, i did not find anything on the ford site that i could do, so i turned on the car and decided to deal with it in the morning after all it was 10pm and no where would be open. i pulled forward out of the gas station and tried to turn and then car dash prompt said "service power steering immediately" and the steering wheel locked up tight and was unmovable. i was going around 5mph when steering locked up and pulling into traffic. i stopped and called a tow truck and sent it to a ford dealership in branson where i was at the time. mechanic said i need a new "steering gear" i was thankful for the warning but it wasn't much on one considering it was less then 2 miles later that it was completely locked up and "service power steering immediately" light came on, thank god for a close gas station and no traffic when i pulled out and it locked up on me. but after researching this is a known problem and some people were going a whole lot faster then i was when this happened to them. this has been my only complaint with this car, but in my opinion it's pretty major. when the car that has no way to add power steering fluid and it fails and you are driving across states with your family of 5 and no warnings till the very last second and then completely locks up on you, it's very dangerous. what if i would have waited till i got to the hotel to check the car, something needs to be done to fix this problem, none of my other cars have ever done anything like this, i had no way of knowing and no way to prevent it from happening. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 70000 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Sept 16, 2014.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . our 2010 ford fusion recently lost its electronic brakes during rush hour traffic. luckily, it was stopped at the time. it is no longer under warranty, but we know there have been issues with the electronic brakes on this car (customer satisfaction program 10b13 stated on cr website, see consumer reports news: feb 4, 2010 4:07pm.) columbia ford said they upgraded the computer back in sept of 2010. when we originally purchased this car, the electronic brakes had failed 3 times in the first few months of owning it. this is now the 4th time the brakes have been lost on the car. today columbia ford stated they will do a diagnoses for $120.00, but they may not even be able to recreate the issue but will still charge us. when we originally had the problem with the brakes in 2010 they said there was nothing wrong with the car because they couldn't duplicate it. eventually, we were proven correct when someone from ford headquarters got involved and discovered the problem. we would like ford headquarters to get involved again and hopefully fix the electronic brakes free of charge, or for a very small fee. we don't know if there are any other 2010 ford fusion hybrids with over 100,000 miles but maybe if someone at ford looks into this issue so we can avoid a tragedy. maybe the software upgrade needs an additional upgrade now that the car is over 100,000 miles? the ford customer relationship website responded to our inquiry today that there is basically nothing they can do for us, please consider looking into this as we need someone to help us. we personally have an urgency in getting this resolved as a family member that rides in the car is 4 months pregnant and her life and the new life are both at stake if something should happen in our car if the brakes fail again. we would appreciate any help you can provide us. please call me if any questions..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 101000 miles. FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 15, 2010.FORD FUSION HYBRID 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with AIR BAGS . airbag disabled warning light appeared on dash. took it to dealer and after 2 days, it was decided that the computer controlling the airbags had to be replaced. for the next 4 years this same light has come on indicating the airbags are not operating. each time the same dealer has said the problem was "in the wiring harness under the passenger seat". it works for a time and then with no warning fails again. on one occasion it occurred just when leaving on a 2500 mile trip so we were without airbag protection. i am convinced that it has to do with having a passenger in the right rear seat and that feet under the seat interfere with the wiring. the dealer has never resolved it. multiple times it has resolved itself before i can get in for service so i am brushed off by the dealer. i consider driving this car without working airbags a great life threatening hazard. i was the passenger in a vehicle with airbag deployment once and am convinced my life was saved by them. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 5000 miles.
