TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on Nov 09, 2009.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . the skid control ecu on my 2003 toyota sequoia recently started intermittently reporting failure via parking warning light and disables the abs system. recently we were driving at highway speeds and it disabled itself as we were braking. there was a tsb br006-06 put out by toyota to replace the ecu in 2006 only if the customer reported the problem. it was a known logic problem with the ecu. we are lucky so far that we have been able to pull-over and turn off the vehicle and turn-it back on to clear the abs fault and continue driving without any accident. toyota service is telling me the ecu needs replacement at my expense for a cost of over $1500. the vehicle was purchased because of the additional safety provided by the abs and vsc system, and toyota should be ensuring that this safety system is working and should have had put a recall out on the computer back in 2006 for this problem for reference, the nhtsa has this recorded as incident #pe68072 and ea09006. *tr.Mileage was 56000 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on Apr 26, 2009.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL . i was driving to interstate 10 going to san antonio, texas and make an exit and then turn left and turn left going back to interstate 10 east bound. my tires skid at the rough road (little stones) and my toyota sequoia sr5 2003 lost control and very hard to stabilize for about 5 to 10 seconds. i just hold the steering and did not pull right or left, and did not step on the brake until it was stabilized. i did not report it to the dealer, thinking the track off system was off. we were lucky that no other vehicles on my side and at the rear. probably it was april 2009. now i am having problem with the track off system and abs system lights on the dashboard. i replaced the 4 tires and disk pads (rear and front) last october 2009. maybe that is one of the reason. i brought it to the dealer and the problem was the skid control system and the yaw rate sensor which will cost me around $1,600.00. the code was 1223 and 1244. i did not go ahead for the repairs since i can not believe for the diagnosis of the car. i barely used this car with 42,000 plus miles on it. besides i don't have enough money for the repair. *tr.Mileage was 42000 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on June 18, 2009.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM . 2003 toyota sequoia vsc trac control lights on instrument panel on all the time now i have reset them several times now and help from dealership is at it best a waste of time and money. as of this date i have only had two driving related incidents . on a trip to tenn this year after stopping for a break i started the vehicle up and started driving the lights came on and a loud clanging came from under the car as soon as i could pull over to investigate the problem it was apparent that something was wrong with the brakes as it was only a short distance to where i was going i proceeded on back roads with caution to where i was going and it was late so i would look at it in the morning.that night i spent most of it on the internet researching the problem and found several other people with the same problem on this model with the same results from there dealerships . the next morning i checked everything out only to find nothing apparently wrong reset the system and problem was gone i thought. on the return trip to fla. i encountered a heavy rain while driving while going around a long corner at a slower speed than posted the tires hit water running across the road and the car went out of control lights back on and a real scary battle to correct the car lucky for me there was no traffic on the road at that point as it took both sides of the road to bring it back under control . from what i have read this a problem with this vehicle that a lot of people are having being a mechanic all my life and a very experienced driver in extreme conditions i would not have been as lucky an i hate to think of the many women with kids in this car would have to go through this type of incident. being a mechanic i have a good understanding of this problem and toyota's solution to just keep changing out the computer at 2,000.00 dollars a crack is only a bandaid not a fix . this condition needs to be addressed with totota as most of these car's are now of the age that this shows up. *tr.Mileage was 70000 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on June 11, 2010.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM . my sequoia is experiencing very similar issues as noted in nhtsa campaign id number: 10v176000. when trying to accelerate the vehicle has a delay and seems to engage the vehicle stability control system preventing acceleration and then it just kicks in and off you go. unfortunately this often leaves you in a dangerous situation if you haven't left yourself more than the usual distance between vehicles. also it is very sporadic so you never know when it will happen. i experience this issue more during turns from start and particularly during rainy or inclement weather though the tires are not slipping. i contacted my toyota dealer and was told my vin is not under the recall. i contacted toyota and they gave me a case number and then told me they would not fix the issue because my vehicle does not have the same part with the issue. i informed them the issue has been happening since i had the car and they wouldn't do anything. they said i could bring it in and have an analysis done but i would need to pay for it. i told them it was happening even when the car was under warranty and their mechanic could not duplicate the issue. i have a young driver who will be using this vehicle and i'm very disappointed that toyota will not admit other sequioa's may have this issue and do not want to address them. this is serious and we have been lucky so far to not have it happen in a bad situation. i'm very disappointed in toyota for simply pushing this vehicle aside. i don't understand how they can be so confident they've identified only certain vehicles which will have the issue. how can they justify that other vehicles will not experience similar issues. i guess they won't do anything until something bad happens to many people to admit there could be something true from what their customers are telling them. i am very disappointed in toyota since my vehicle fits the recall mentioned in the beginning of this note but they are simply turning away from a long time customer. *tr.Mileage was 140000 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on Dec 01, 2012.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with AIR BAGS . while driving down a familiar two lane road with many curves and not reaching a speed above 45 mph, i came upon a curve, braked, and steered my sequoia appropriately. i was driving on the outside of the curve, but when i tried to turn with the curve, my sequoia headed toward the oncoming lane of traffic. as it veered toward the fence posts on the other side of the road, i could not slow it down or steer it back to my lane. no matter how i pressed the brakes, it would not slow down but instead sped up. the last i remember is the realization that i could do nothing to stop or steer my sequoia. i rolled it 3 1/2 times (through the fence and then back through it again in another spot). many thanks to god, my 3 year old made it out with but one small scratch on his arm and a huge fear. however, it took them 1 1/2 hours to get me out and then i had to be care-flighted due to facial injuries, head trauma, and disfigured left arm. although my sequoia was supposed to be equipped with side impact airbags along with front airbags not a single airbag deployed. i know certain sensors have to be activated to inflate an airbag so i feel i need to mention that this vehicle no longer resembled a sequoia. no headlights remained, all windows were gone, the dash, hood and roof collapsed in on me. it took me five weeks to get behind the wheel again after feeling such helplessness. last week i received a post card about toyota recalls that involved my sequoia so i decided to look it up. i got very sick reading the recalls and investigations that are related to what i experienced. it is very upsetting that i trusted toyota for my family and that the accident could have been prevented. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 2 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 139000 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on Apr 14, 2010.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . this occurred approximately april 2010, upon receiving a recall notice from toyota on brakes, i took the vehicle into the toyota dealership. they fixed the recall notice and i ended up having to pay for a test to find out what was causing the vsc light to come on. the dealership said that there was nothing that they could do for me except replace the yaw sensor for almost $800 dollars. this was the sensor for $685 and then the labor. to this date (07/14/2013) toyota has done nothing to fix the issue. i have read numerous issues with this item. i guess it will take someone else being killed for them to get their act together and fix it. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 110000 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on July 07, 2010.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . repeated incidences of gas pedal being stuck and unable to be depressed to give the vehicle fuel and accelerate. essentially vehicle randomly locks up, typically at low speeds as on a parking lot or leaving a driveway or paring garage. the gas pedal feels as if there is something blocking it from being utilized while there is nothing physically obstructing the pedal. after tapping and then frantically trying to push the accelerator and break it free it causes the vehicle to lunge forward necessitating quick reaction and breaking. it is scattered but recurs periodically with no warning. vehicle is currently under recall for the traction, skid, stability issues and airbags. scheduled for recall services mentioned but dealer says nothing is wrong with pedal. once told it was cleaned and adjusted but is mostly ignored and i'm treated like i'm nuts. not being taken seriously but i'm afraid that someone may be hurt. it is a frightening event as you feel not in control of the vehicle and vulnerable. have had it happen when pulling into traffic or turning onto busy street. even giving ample time for normal traffic, the inability to provide gas to the vehicle left us at the vehicles mercy and in a vulnerable spot to be briar sides by oncoming traffic. it was not the floor mat. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 50325 miles. TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003 car safety problem was reported on Mar 26, 2014.TOYOTA SEQUOIA SR5 2003, manufactured by Toyota Motor Corporation had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . i received a recall notice from toyota for undercarriage rusting. i took my vehicle to the dealership for treatment. they kept the vehicle overnight and i picked it up the next day. six months later (i'm not sure exactly when it happened because we have more than one vehicle), while driving the sequoia, which i never had problems with before, i smelled something burning as i drove the vehicle and thought that with the new treatment it was just burning off the excess. however, the vehicle began to shake, i looked under the vehicle and noticed that the brake rotors had rusted to the point that i could rub my hand on them and rub the metal off. i called the dealer to ask them what the vehicle had been treated with because in all the years that i had the vehicle the rotors had never rusted. i was told "it wasn't caused by what they did" and that they "see rusted rotors all the time", but was never told what chemicals were used in the treatment. i have to pay to have the entire brake assembly replaced on all wheels to make the vehicle safe again. i'm to believe that it is just a coincidence that the first and only time that this happened is within six months of the "undercarriage rust treatment" that i was told had to be applied to prevent rust by toyota. i believe the rust inhibitor treatment is fraudulent and causes other problems with the vehicles such as mine..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 270000 miles.
