Nissan Pathfinder 1998 TiresNissan Pathfinder 1998 Tires Review #730586 NISSAN PATHFINDER 1998 car safety problem was reported on Feb 01, 1998.NISSAN PATHFINDER 1998, manufactured by NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with TIRES . on a clear day with only one other car within sight , in the afternoon our pathfinder was inexplicably drawn sideways off the highway and was out of control. we traveled for quite a distance on the grassed area which was lightly snow covered and continued closely by the tree line. my husband was a truck driver and was able to keep us from hitting the trees but we slid over a dip in the terrain that sent our vehicle flying through the air and after landing my husband was able to bring it to rest in a ditch after hitting a cement culvert. we found we had a blown tire in the rear and the front tire exploded on impact with the culvert. the front right of the vehicle sustained damage. all of us were in seatbelts. our son did not get hurt(he was in the back seat and i had my body turned trying to hold him down. the impact sent my right hand side flying into the front dash and door. i sustained considerable injury to my right hand shoulder and arm and was out of work and in physical therapy for months. my husband was also thrown around considerably. to this day we have no idea and the police could not pinpoint any reason for this crash other than a defective tire. we thought the design in the pathfinder might be faulty and i did report this incident to the nhtsa in feb/march of that year. we have since gotten rid of the pathfinder as our son was terrified to travel in it. the vehicle itself held up well in the crash and we consider ourselves lucky to have been in such a well made vehicle. we have since purchased a newer pathfinder and have had no problems. however the tires from the previous pathfinder are on my father-in-laws chevy truck and we are concerned about a defect in the manufacture of the tire. this recent recall has caused us to think about that accident and we firmly believe we had defective tires.( dot number: tire size: atxp70 ).Vehicle was involved in a crash. 2 person(s) were injured. Nissan Pathfinder 1998 Seat Belts Front RetractorNissan Pathfinder 1998 Seat Belts Front Retractor Review #731554 NISSAN PATHFINDER 1998 car safety problem was reported on .NISSAN PATHFINDER 1998, manufactured by NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with SEAT BELTS:FRONT:RETRACTOR . while returning from a baseball game in new york city, on tuesday, september 12, 2000, my nine year old daughter fell asleep in the back seat of the pathfinder. somehow the seat belt she was wearing became twisted around her so that she had both the shoulder harness cacross her chest and the lap belt around her waist. when we stopped , she awakened, released her belt and the belt retracted. she began to cry saying that she was stuck and could not move. i went to her aide and tried to free her from the harness. unfortunately, with every move the belt just retracted and would not release. i asked her to try and slip out of the belt. big mistake. the belt retracted more until it was around the thinest part of her midrift. she began to have trouble breathing, and combined with the panic that was beginning to set in began to struggle even more. i tugged on that belt. i reassured her we would get her out. i closed the door and reopened the door. nothing would release that belt. i removed the plastic cap where the belt was contained. i had tools. i figured i could simply unbolt the strap. no dice. the bolt does not match up with the hole. now i had a choice to make. let the child suffer, rip the plastic coverings of the car off, or cut the belt. i cut the belt off my child. i thought this important enough to report for one major reason. what if there had been an accident and my child was strapped in the seat unable to move, and a fire ensued. we would both have been consumed. i know the belt works. it keeps one in place. however, maybe some safety device could be devised which when released would free the belt. i can only imagine what it will take before someone figures out that there is some danger to what i am reporting.*ak.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JN8AR05Y5WW. Nissan Pathfinder 1998 Power Train Transfer Case (4-wheel Drive)Nissan Pathfinder 1998 Power Train Transfer Case (4-wheel Drive) Review #10019003 NISSAN PATHFINDER 1998 car safety problem was reported on Apr 30, 2003.NISSAN PATHFINDER 1998, manufactured by NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with POWER TRAIN:TRANSFER CASE (4-WHEEL DRIVE) . while driving my 1998 nissan pathfinder, with no warning, the vehicle began bucking and stalling until it would not drive. the car was towed to the local nissan dealership. the next day, we received telephone call from the service dept who informed us that the transfer case was damaged. the service rep told me that there was an internal defect on the part and that the problem was very uncommon. the transfer case is associated with the four wheel drive on the pathfinder - which is something we have probably used less than 10 times in the 4 1/2 years that we have driven the car. parts and labor on this repair would be approximately $2,500. i asked for nissan's customer service number and contacted them immediately. we were told that the part had to be specially ordered and would not be fixed for 4-5 days. on the 4th day, we were contacted by the service dept to inform us that they had replaced the part, but that the transfer case had apparently damaged the transmission and that had to be replaced. this would be the total of repairs to approx $5,000. again, i contacted the nissan's customer service because i had not gotten a telephone call from my original call. when we finally reached someone at the customer service dept we explained that we had gotten all the recommended preventative maintenace on the pathfinder. this was also the 3rd nissan we had purchased and up until now had been very satisfied with their reliability. given our purchase and maintenance history,we were led to believe from the service dept that nissan would give us a break on the repairs. in addition, we also believe that the defect should have been detected during our regular preventative maintenance (which totals in the thousands of dollars) and that what was an otherwise well maintained transmission was ruined by a defective product. nissan's final response was that we were out of warranty and they would do nothing for us. why was a defective product not recalled? *nlm.0 person(s) were injured. i took my 2005 nissan xterra to a dealership in long beach ca, to have them run a diagnostic test on why my check engine would go off. I drove off having more problems then a had when i took my vehicle into be tested. i paid 1'323.28 for a battery what does it mean when I put my 2004 Nissan Altima in drive and it takes it about 10 or seconds before it will go into drive. The weird thing is I can go into reverse with no problem or lower gear it goes I have a problem with my 2005 Nissan TPMS. After about 10 miles, the reading on the display changes to "**" for 1 of the 4 tires and the low pressure warning light comes on. I've checked pressure on the tires and they are all fine. I have a 01 Niss UD 2600 No Fuel aqt the inj pump but fuel getting to the pump its been very cold and i have changed both filters. i was told there is a crank sensor in the inj. pump where is it??
