Mercury Mariner 2008 Vehicle Speed ControlMercury Mariner 2008 Vehicle Speed Control Review #10288838 MERCURY MARINER 2008 car safety problem was reported on Sept 24, 2009.MERCURY MARINER 2008, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . on 09-24-2009 while traveling on i-95 towards maine near portsmouth, new hampshire, our vehicle a 2008 mercury mariner, with 15,682 miles on the odometer, lost all braking capability at 65 mph. being a retired police officer i was able to talk my wife, who was driving, over into a breakdown lane in an effort to avoid collision with tractor trailers, motor vehicles and fixed objects. ultimately the vehicle was turned onto an off ramp and onto a sidewalk and grass area to increase friction to reduce speed. this was several miles in the making and when the vehicle slowed to under 40 mph we placed it in neutral and were able to stop the car. we noted that the rpms were in the 4,000 to 5,000 range as the throttle appeared stuck. after towing to portsmouth ford, in portsmouth, new hampshire; technicians there determined that the problem was a stretched throttle control & cable assembly (part #7l8z*9!758*c cable ass-throttle contro and part # 8l*z*9725*a shaft mt79758a-accelerator cable). techicians stated that the stretch accelerator cable (which they said was poorly designed) caused the throttle and cruise control to lock, which over rode the braking system. warranty repairs were made invoice 497086 tag customer #8023451243. we narrowly avoided what could have been a catastrophic accident and feel this should be brought to your attention as a defect may exist in other simllar 2008 mercury mariners. *tr.Mileage was 15682 miles. Mercury Mariner 2008 Vehicle Speed Control Review #10294939 MERCURY MARINER 2008 car safety problem was reported on Dec 07, 2009.MERCURY MARINER 2008, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . unintended acceleration. ascending a winding grade on oregon 140 at 50 mph the accelerator pedal suddenly shot unaided to the floor putting the car in passing gear. when i hit the brake pedal it instantly disengaged the accelerator. the car was not in cruise control mode although it had been earlier. i had disengaged the overdrive function through the button on the gear shift lever and was in straight drive gear. we bought the car in january 2009. this was the 3rd time we have experienced this same problem. this time was the most pronounced and serious since the accelerator was floored. we were passing over the cascades between medford and klamath falls. two or three miles further up the highway we entered the snow zone and there was ice on the highway. had we been there at the time of the sudden acceleration the car could have spun out of control. *tr.Mileage was 41201 miles. Mercury Mariner 2008 Power Train Review #10508041 MERCURY MARINER 2008 car safety problem was reported on Apr 10, 2013.MERCURY MARINER 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i was pulling into my work parking lot when the transmission suddenly stopped engaging. i had to push the vehicle into a space. mechanic confirms i need a new transmission. i discovered that there is a known issue with the transmission of this vehicle, i called mercury/ford and had to reference the case # myself for them to find it. the customer service representative confirmed that my vehicle met the specific requirements for the customer satisfaction program (csp: 09b10) - all the way down to a specific manufacturing plant up to a specific month and date but because they stopped honoring those in 2011 i am not eligible. i am the 2nd owner of this vehicle and had no way to know this was a hazard, not was the dealer aware as ford/mercury had apparently removed the csp number from the files once it expired. this is proven by the fact that ford/mercury's own representative didn't' see it linked to my vehicle, i had to mention it specifically and then she confirmed that it did apply to my vehicle and was unassociated with it at expiration. as such, there is no way to know whether this was addressed or even an issue. my concern is had it been 20 minutes earlier that the transmission went out, my 3 1/2 year old daughter and i would have been going highway speeds on a 6 lane highway!! very dangerous! ford/mercury should have to recall this item, which is clearly a known manufacturing issue. i should not have to pay $2000 to fix something that they did incorrectly from the first and poses a great safety risk! *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 59416 miles. Mercury Mariner 2008 Steering Review #10672985 MERCURY MARINER 2008 car safety problem was reported on Jan 09, 2015.MERCURY MARINER 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . started vehicle. dash message read "power steering assist failure." no power steering. after doing online research (it didn't take long to find similar to identical complaints), i found that there was a steering related recall pertaining to the vehicle (7/2014). took vehicle to lincoln-mercury dealership from which it was purchased new. the dealer service department informed me that the recall work had been done the last time we had our oil changed over the summer, and that the recall had been "closed out".... we weren't informed of either the fact that there was a recall in the first place, or that they had "taken care" of it. the recall work was apparently to "reprogram" some "module" to simply make the driver aware that something has gone awry with the power steering (no kidding). the ultimate diagnosis: the vehicle needs a new steering column at a cost of nearly $1,300.00 as the "torque sensor" has failed. it is apparent to me and many others that the recall had nothing to do with repair of the failed component, which is not such an "unlikely event"....also, the failure of the component is not a matter of improper maintenance as could be the case with typical power steering systems...it just fails. the failure of the component(s) is however a pretty serious safety issue i would think. i will make the dealer service department aware of this, and continue to find out why these repairs should not be the responsibility of the manufacturer. by the way, mileage was 87,810 when this happened..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 87810 miles. Mercury Mariner 2008 Steering Review #10676904 MERCURY MARINER 2008 car safety problem was reported on Jan 16, 2015.MERCURY MARINER 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . when taking this vehicle in for recall service ford # 14s05 (nhtsa campaign number: 14v284000), the reprogramming of the electronic power assist steering was done, but was told the steering shaft and lower u-joint was faulty and needed to be replaced. the description of the recall indicates failed components will be replaced, but upon inquiry at the dealer (brondes, toledo, ohio) i was told it only applied to electronic components--not mechanical ones. the wear on these components is exactly what happens when the torque sensing device is not working properly. this seems to be me to be ford not wanting to meet its financial obligation to fix this entire recall. this was a new design introduced in this model year and it is only now starting to fail. i asked the dealer about assistance with the repair and was denied; and i called the ford hotline and was similarly denied assistance with the repair, but advised to retain my receipts in case there was further action on this recall. the internet has several references to this type of failure/repair. i think they are directly linked..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 101723 miles. mine is doing the same thing\\ but i also dont have vrake lights an its not a fuse nor the brake pad switch. so i need to know did u get an answer to ure problem please!! help me! My 2000 mercury villager overheated , when I pulled over and looked under the hood the radiator hose was blown off. looks like a pressure problem --- is it a thermostat or waterpump . I took the Thermostat of and put it in boiling water and it op My 2003 Mountaineer has a split in the liftgate .I want to know whay cause that and how can it be repaired. I also have a 88 cougar murcery and the head gasket went out but replaced them but it still wants to over heat what do I do wheres the tur signal relay on mercury mistique I have a exhaust type smell coming through the AC vents when the car is sitting at a traffic light.  Any ideas of where to start looking? My 2001 Sable gear shifter gets stuck once in a while. I have to push on breaks and move shifter out of park position for a while until it catches. Then I can drive. The radiator fluid is good. wires look good, fuses are good, Power steering fluid horn won't blow, but fuse is good hesitation going int 3rd gear when i accelorate it goes in easier had transmission flushed 2005 mercury mariner 2002 MERCURY SABLE DOOR LATCH FROZEN , WON'T SHUT AND LATCH when gas is pressed lights flicker ?
