GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005 car safety problem was reported on June 05, 2011.GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005, manufactured by GENERAL MOTORS LLC had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . hello around the beginning of june of 2011 i was driving my 2005 gmc yukon xl when suddenly i received an error message on my dash board stating "reduce engine power" automatically my speed went down. i pulled over to the side and did a diagnostic check with onstar, they informed me that the engine suddenly was reducing speed and the best thing to do was take it in to get checked at. on monday, june 6th i took it in to bob brown dealer in merle hay in des moines, ia, i spoke to bob lundy and informed him of the problem i was having, he informed me they had to do some diagnostic check again, i left my vehicle there and got a ride to work from them. in the pm i received a phone call from bob stating that all it was just a sensor so they would have to replace it i informed him that was fine as long as everything would be fixed. they charged me $457.02, about a week later the engine light came back on and reduce engine power kicked in again, i called bob lundy at the gmc dealer and he stated that the sensor might have gone bad again. i waited about 2 weeks and took it in again and this time they cannot figure out what is going on with my truck, i even left it there overnight and all they can tell me is that they cannot figure the problem out. i am out $452 dollars and the reduce engine power acts up almost everyday! i have to keep pulling over in the interstate, street, or anywhere i am at in order to turn my vehicle off for 5 minutes and start it over for that error message to go away and for me to be able to drive my vehicle appropriately, otherwise the engine power is not working and i can only drive it up to 20 mph. sometimes even when i restart my vehicle the message is still there and i have to wait and loose more time. this is affecting my everyday life, i have been late to meetings, work, to pick up my daughter. i want this fixed please! bob brown dealer stated they don't know what the problem is with my vehicle, i think they just don't know how to fix it!!! *tr.Mileage was 118000 miles. GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005 car safety problem was reported on Nov 25, 2011.GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005, manufactured by GENERAL MOTORS LLC had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . incident date: front cabin / in dash fire 11/25/2011 at 5:20pm vehicle: 2005 gmc yukon xl slt with approximately 120k miles vehicle was parked in driveway; had just been driven however the engine was off; 15-30 minutes later heard loud bang and glass breaking; front cabin of the vehicle was engulfed in flames; opened doors and sprayed water on until fire department got there. insurance company has requested that the vehicle remain at place of incident until adjuster can investigate. fire department best assumption at this point is that this was an electrical fire that started somewhere in the dash between the front center console and the steering column. we are the original owner; bought the vehicle new; no aftermarket options; other than tires and brakes, all original mftr equipment, all warranty work done at gmc dealership. we have extensive documentation with gmc for all warranty issues since it was purchased many of which have been electrical problems. examples are steering column electronics, passenger a/c blowing hot air due to electrical, radio / cd player over heating replaced 2 times, dvd player replaced numerous times, sporadic incidents where dvd and dash components would just stop working requiring the vehicle to be turned completely off then back on for it to work; fuel gauge showing empty when the tank was full - car had to be turned off, key out, restart to correct; electronic fuel pump issues - replaced; load leveling electrical component replaced; electronic shifting components on transmission; electronic window switch, etc... *tr.Vehicle was on fire. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 120000 miles. GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005 car safety problem was reported on June 01, 2011.GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005, manufactured by GENERAL MOTORS LLC had a problem with ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL . during acceleration and occasionally during braking, the wheel sensor(s) cause the traction control to become active, or cause the anti-lock brakes to engage. in all cases, activation is in error based on ambient conditions. i am able to override the traction active problems by disabling the traction assist, but the anti-lock brakes are not controlled by the same switch. i have searched the internet and found numerous examples of the same failure with this type of vehicle, but no recall exists yet for this particular year and model. to date, the failure has not caused a crash, but now that winter is here i have to make repairs because disengaging the traction assist is not practical in snowy conditions. my mechanic advised me that it requires changing the full front wheel bearing assembly because of corrosion buildup on the tone ring. he also told me that he did change a sensor on a similar vehicle but the sensor did not solve the problem. the wheel bearing will cost several hundred dollars to replace. with the apparently common nature of this problem, and a listed recall in canada for the same problem, i believe gm is ignoring a very serious safety problem. when you pull into traffic and the vehicle essentially stalls, you may get rear-ended, which almost happened to me a few weeks ago. however, my greater concern is not being able to stop. another website said that tires could be the problem. all of my tires are the same size and wear, and air pressure matches. the problem is with the vehicle, not related to tire differences..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 93000 miles. GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005 car safety problem was reported on May 19, 2012.GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005, manufactured by General Motors LLC had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . a friend of mine just showed me a letter he got in the mail that is a recall to fix the reduced engine power code that shows a throttle body needs repaired.. the letter says to bring his vehicle in if it is a gm or chevy model less than 10 years old and less than 150000 miles and they will fix it for free. i contacted gm to see if my gmc was on the list and they told me to take it to a dealer and have a diagnostic done. i have already had one done and the codes keep changing, and from what i have read the gm site and other forums gm does not know what the problem and will not recall it unless they have to, my brother is also a mechanic and had it looked over by our college mechanic shop.still no relief, i am not willing to spend $5000 and it still not fixed.. so i guess since something like it is recalled and i get into an accident because it reduces power on the interstate doing 75mpg, ill can to take legal action? i can't drive it half the time because of the problem. in the summer it starts with reduced power because its 90 degrees outside. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 129200 miles. GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005 car safety problem was reported on Dec 04, 2012.GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005, manufactured by General Motors LLC had a problem with POWER TRAIN . this basic incident has occurred approximately ten times. the 4wd control module malfunctions at random. the vehicle message center will display "service 4wd," and a clicking sound can be heard as the lights on the transfer case control panel switch on and off, switching the vehicle in and out of gear. several times this has happened in such a way that the truck shifted into 4lo at moderate speed. once, the vehicle stalled in an intersection with the abrupt shift. i am convinced that this is a systematic issue with gm 4wd trucks, but it is in no way being addressed. it is an extreme safety hazard when a 5400 lb. vehicle suddenly shifts into low range or neutral without advance warning. a simple internet search shows that this has happened to many other gm vehicle owners. the only remedy seems to be removing the relay to cut power to the module, thus rendering this "mighty" 4x4 a 2wd sled. this is a safety hazard of the highest order! i cannot say enough negative things about the electrical system of this vehicle in particular and the build quality in general. it destroys tires, it is a pleasant surprise when something works as it should, and i had to replace the "heavy duty" transmission at 120k when the power bands catastrophically failed. for shame, general motors! i will never again purchase another of your shoddy vehicles. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 130000 miles. GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005 car safety problem was reported on Aug 14, 2014.GMC YUKON XL 1500 2005, manufactured by General Motors LLC had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . yesterday i started my vehicle and turned on the a/c. the a/c blower was blowing at the highest setting regardless of the control setting. i turned the a/c off and the blower remained on. i turned the ignition off and the blower continued to run. the blower continued to run for approximately 8 minutes while my husband researched online how to get it to stop. the blower did not stop running until my husband removed the fuse. if my husband would not have been with me the blower would have continuously ran, causing it to overheat, and possibly causing a fire. also, we have digital gear lights on our dash. those lights started periodically dimming several years ago and have since gone out completely, other than the seldom random occasion, so we can no longer read what gear the vehicle is in. we took the vehicle to the dealership where it was purchased and asked what the cause was and how to repair it. we were told the complete instrument control panel cluster would need to be replaced at the cost of $350 for the panel alone. after doing some research of my own, i have come to find out this seems to be a very common problem. not knowing what gear you are in is definitely a safety issue that needs to be handled by gm. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 124000 miles.
