Pontiac Bonneville Fuel System, Gasoline Carburetor System Safety Report | May 14, 2001
Reported on May 14, 2001
UPPER INTAKE PLENTUM FAILED, CAUSING COOLANT TO LEAK INTERNALLY INTO THE ENGINE, THIS CAUSED SOME CYLINDERS TO SHUT DOWN AND THE CAR TO RUN ROUGH. WHEN I CONTACTED THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THIS WAS HAPPENING TO THIS VEHICLE AT VARIOUS MILEAGES. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT PART OF THIS ASSEMBLY WAS MADE OF PLASTIC RATHER THAN CAST METAL AND THIS COULD BE CAUSE FOR FAILURE DUE TO EXPOSURE TO HIGH TEMPURATURES. I WAS LUCKY THAT I WAS NOT FAR AWAY FROM HOME WHEN THIS ENGINE FAILURE OCCURRED. *AK | |
