Mercury Grand Marquis Electrical System Wiring Front Underhood Safety Report | Aug 20, 1998

Reported on Aug 20, 1998

LOCATION OF THE WIRING HARNESS TO THE STARTER IS ALL THE WAY ON THE BOTTOM, WHICH IS UNPROTECTED FROM WATER/DAMPNESS, ETC, WHICH RESULTS IN CORROSION CAUSING THE VEHICLE TO STALL. THE DEALER/MANUFACTURER ARE AWARE OF THE SITUATION BECAUSE A IMPROVED STARTER AND HARNESS WERE DESIGNED, BUT THERE IS NOT A RECALL. THE VEHICLE WILL START UP, BUT THE CORRODED HARNESS HAS TO BE CLEANED FROM TIME TO TIME. *AK
