I have a 1-yr-old battery (12 V) that checks out perfectly, as well as a new (re-built)alternator, but the battery went dead, recently, overnight. Prior to this failure, the car had been driven 3 days consecutively, around town, for a total of about 40 miles. The battery shop technician's ammeter shows there is a drain on my battery, with ignition and accessories turned off. As a precaution, I took out the dome light bulb and turned off its switch, then removed the bulb from my trunk light, to eliminate that possibility. My regular mechanic advises me to check the battery cables, in the A.M. to detect unusual warmth that a drain might create. Unless I can determine the source of this leakage, I may have to resort to disconnecting one of the cables, each night, until I can have the problem properly diagnosed by an electrical specialist. Ideally, I prefer to avoid the latter since I understand it can be an expensive proposition.
