We bought a 2010 Mazda 3 in July of 2011, after the car had been a rental for 1 year. It had less than 25k miles on it. About a month after the warranty from the dealer ran out, two of the four seat mounts broke, causing it to wobble forward and backwards on acceleration and braking. The dealer quoted around $2500 to fix it since it was out of warranty, and the entire seat with embedded airbags needed to be replaced. The repairman said this was the third Mazda3 he'd seen that month with broken welding on seat mounts, and I also found several complaints online of the same problem. Mazda refused to cover the costs citing the warranty expiration. We could not find a repairman to put in a salvaged seat, it has to be a new seat. Since we do not have $2500, my husband has had to drive the car with the rocking seat for the last year. Today he went over a medium pothole and the other two mounts snapped. The seat is just sitting on the floor of the car. We had it towed home and I'm on the phone with Mazda trying to convince them to pay for the replacement seat due to the clearly shoddy welding job. If it had been a rear-ending instead of a pothole, my husband could have been seriously injured. This is clear negligence, and I hope they make things right. Neither of us will drive the car until the seat is replaced.
