I have the exact same problem. First i noticed the crack on the hatch panel on my 2004 Aviator 2 yrs ago with about 60k miles on it then I realized that the crack was probably from the broken lock on the hatch window. I took the interior panel off to look at the lock and realized that one of the bolts had broken. I was happy to see this because i thought it would be a simple, not expensive, fix for the bolt replacement. I took the Aviator to a Ford/Lincoln dealer to have it fixed and was told that they could't replace the bolt and they would have to replace the entire back hatch door for $1,200. are they nuts?! its a freaking bolt that caused the problem! I decided to live with it and occasionally have to play with the lock to get it to stay shut. More bad news, looks like the other bolt is going. bummed because I really like the Aviator. looks like time for a new car.....
