Ford Explorer Sport Questions

My son's 1998 Ford Explorer Sport has an acceleration problem. When he tries to accelerate very slowly like when he's in a drive thru, the truck engine cuts off. Do you think this is a fuel filter, injector, electrical, or some other problem?
