Ok, so my Land Rover took a dump and My Mother has a 2001 Chevy Malibu with (at the time the problem first happened) 39,000 miles - she hardly ever drove the thing, to the store, to the doctor, to visit her grandchildren and sometimes parked for weeks at a time.
I borrowed it until we could get to a place in time where we could look at fixing the rover. well.... One day I hop in and the thing does not start. I work roughly 45 miles away and it is now abandonded in our work parking lot (a co-worker gave me a ride home) and that night I google all the possibilities because I was like, "There is only 39k on the thing, wtf..."...
After a couple of hours I googled upon this complaint site and read about "...the 10 minute fix"... curiously I took that information with me when I finally got back to the work parking lot and sure enough after leaving the key in the "On" position for 10 minutes, off for 5 seconds, it would then start.
Euuurrreeeeeka, I thought! At least I don't have to spend hundreds of dollars to fix the fuel pump, etc.
The car started normally for like a week, or so, would act up again and after waiting 10 - 15 mins would sometimes start. Repeating the process some days like 4 - 5 times and eventually start.
What A ROYAL PAIN IN THE CAZOOOOOOOOOOO
I hate this vehicle and now when I get the Rover fixed and I need to hand this over to my Mother (74 years old) will she get stranded somewhere and not be able to get it to start too?
Ridiculous!
I tried the bypass thingy with the yellow wires and switch (I did not connect switch with car running, because I did not want to die of carbon dioxide poisining while performing the process) and it would not start. The car stayed at work for over a week.
I had a friend tow it to his place to replace the fuel pump. he messed with the remote control by locking, unlocking and of course it started for him. He tested the fuel pump, NOT THE PROBLEM. It Is The $%*#^@! Theft System that disables your ability to start the car if it "Detects" a theft, or thinks somone is tampering with it.
THE VEHICLE HAS FULL COVERAGE INSURANCE, Let Someone Steal It and GOOD LUCK WITH THAT!
Took fuel pump back to auto parts place and redeposited the $275.
Of course it statrted when I went to his place to pick it up, of course it did!
I drove home and a couple days later it dies again.... 10 minute fix worked, I get stuck at work again and a hour later it decides to start again. I drove home and on the way bought a new passlock/ignition switch. The directions say to clear the codes and follow the process to allow it to "Re-Learn" the codes. I don't have anyway to "Clear The Codes" even though the auto parts place said if I get it there, they can do it... Yeah, right... IF IT WOULD START NOW, I WOULD GLADLY DRIVE IT OVER THERE! AND WHILE I AM AT IT< Maybe just ram it through the front of your building with a "FREE TO TAKE" sticker on it for someone else to inherit the brain damage.
Not sure where to go from here, I am Soooooooooooooooooooooo Over This Chevy HEADACHE!
