(i discovered this only when i hadn't set the parking brake because i was sitting in the car.) i've driven stick-shifts all my life and every independent mechanic i've shown this to has agreed that it is a tragedy waiting to happen. several noted that it is called "reverse dieseling". problem #1: consumers are not being informed of this situation. i'd never have purchased the car if i'd known. solution: a letter must be sent to all yaris owners immediately, informing them of this. problem #2: at the bare minimum, why is there no warning system which is activated when the parking brake is not set? an automatic transmission when turned off will not release the key when not in park. solution: at the very least toyota must retrofit the cars with an audio/visual signal when the parking brake is not set. upcoming models must include a quality safeguard. problem #3: page 129 of the owner's manual mildly states,"when parking, firmly apply the parking brake to avoid inadvertent creeping." please note that the identical verbiage is used in the manual for both types of transmission. solution: obvious. problem# 4: parking brakes are notoriously unreliable for many reasons. ideal solution: engine should be re-engineered with sufficient compression. *jb updated 10/11/07 *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 5050 miles. Toyota Yaris 2007 Service Brakes, Electric Review #10310350 TOYOTA YARIS 2007 car safety problem was reported on Feb 13, 2010.TOYOTA YARIS 2007, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, ELECTRIC . thirteen months have passed and now i have a failure of the left rear wheel speed sensor to match the failed right rear wheel speed sensor that was replaced. the repair action will be to replace the sensor and wiring harness. due to excessive corrosion, the dealer is recommending replacement of both the left and right rear wheel speed sensor wiring. this will be the third rear wheel speed sensor failure on two yaris that i have had to deal with in 14 months. the cold weather and salt used on the roads during a snowy winter appear to wreak havoc on the connection between the wiring harness and the rear wheel speed sensors on the yaris sedans. a little internet research will lead you to the conclusion that this is a very common problem in canada or anywhere where salt is used on the roads in winter. since this problem does not present itself on the corolla in the same way, then there must be a design issue on the yaris. a proper water/weather tight connection between the wiring harness and the rear wheel speed sensors would solve this issue. this is a safety issue as the intermittent connection causes erratic operation (if any) of the abs on these models. i believe there is a tsb released on this subject, but no recall. consumers (me) are footing the bill for this defect. three times and counting. *tr.Mileage was 92507 miles. Toyota Yaris 2007 SteeringToyota Yaris 2007 Steering Review #10350073 TOYOTA YARIS 2007 car safety problem was reported on July 25, 2010.TOYOTA YARIS 2007, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with STEERING . purchased a 07 toyota yaris on 6/7/2010 certified with 77302 miles on it for my son. car has had no incidents until 7/25/10 at approx 7:30 - 7:45pm est. driving conditions were sunny and clear. my son and i have driven on the road many times before as it is very close to the house. when my son was trying to bear right around a turn at the top of the hill while going approx 25-30 mph he could not turn right to stay in his lane. applied the brakes while the car drove directly into a large tree. there was no way to avoid the tree as the car would not allow him to steer it. the posted speed limit is 40 mph for the general area and 25 mph suggested speed for the curve. although no airbags deployed, neither driver or passenger were injured. damage to front end and the left quarter panel pushed back into the left door so the hinge is impeded when opening the door. engine was pushed back on a tilt. the officer said he could not see any other way the accident could have happened as no one would willingly drive directly into a tree on purpose. the car was towed to a local toyota dealership that evening. on 7/26 i spoke to the service manager (sm) as directed by the gm. the sm suggested i speak to toyota via an 800 #. i called, gave details as described above and have a case number. i was assigned a case manager on 7/27 and was promised a regional toyota investigator would look at the car within 10-14 business days. shortly thereafter i spoke to the collision manager to advise her of the issue and waited for someone to contact me from toyota advising me when the inspection will take place. on 8/13 a rep from toyota's exec. office contacted me and indicated i would need to sign an edr data readout authorization and consent form. they think the inspection will occur on 8/19 or 8/20. i have requested to videotape the computer screen during the download of edr & ecm data along with it backed up on a usb drive and get a printout and explanation from the inspector. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. Toyota Yaris 2007 SuspensionToyota Yaris 2007 Suspension Review #10445074 TOYOTA YARIS 2007 car safety problem was reported on Jan 18, 2012.TOYOTA YARIS 2007, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SUSPENSION . i brought my 2007 toyota yaris into the dealership to get the brakes looked at as i was hearing a clunking noise going over uneven roads at slow speeds and i was feeling a sticking with the brakes. the dealership notified me that the brakes were fine but that a bolt in the front cross arm of the suspension had rusted and broken off. i was told that this was a design flaw in the 2007-2011 yaris and that there was a technical service bulletin that advised on replacing the whole crossmember with a new design. the warranty only covered the car up to 3 years or 36000 miles but my car is 3.5 years and 53000 miles. the cost of the parts and repair was over $2500 and since it was a safety concern i was not allowed to drive the car without fixing it. the dealership contacted toyota, who then agreed to pay for the parts. i was still responsible for paying the $848 in labor to repair something that toyota had designed incorrectly. i had to pay the bill in order to get my car out but the dealership encouraged me to continue to contact toyota directly as they agreed that this was an issue that toyota should resolve. i contacted toyota usa and was told that they "technically" didn't have to do anything since it's not a recall and that because they already paid for the parts, that was the same as me "agreeing" that they did not have to pay for the labor. toyota should be responsible for fixing problems associated with a design flaw in a major structural element of the car. a bolt shouldn't rust in less than 4 yrs, especially when it's a safety concern. i think that with time, more yaris owners will begin to experience this and it should be looked into further before someone is hurt or killed as a result of this failure. i have found numerous complaints online from other yaris owners for this same thing and the apa in canada is requesting toyota canada recall the problem (10/28/11). *tr.Mileage was 53000 miles. Toyota Yaris 2007 Structure Frame And Members Underbody ShieldsToyota Yaris 2007 Structure Frame And Members Underbody Shields Review #10445074 TOYOTA YARIS 2007 car safety problem was reported on Jan 18, 2012.TOYOTA YARIS 2007, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS:UNDERBODY SHIELDS . i brought my 2007 toyota yaris into the dealership to get the brakes looked at as i was hearing a clunking noise going over uneven roads at slow speeds and i was feeling a sticking with the brakes. the dealership notified me that the brakes were fine but that a bolt in the front cross arm of the suspension had rusted and broken off. i was told that this was a design flaw in the 2007-2011 yaris and that there was a technical service bulletin that advised on replacing the whole crossmember with a new design. the warranty only covered the car up to 3 years or 36000 miles but my car is 3.5 years and 53000 miles. the cost of the parts and repair was over $2500 and since it was a safety concern i was not allowed to drive the car without fixing it. the dealership contacted toyota, who then agreed to pay for the parts. i was still responsible for paying the $848 in labor to repair something that toyota had designed incorrectly. i had to pay the bill in order to get my car out but the dealership encouraged me to continue to contact toyota directly as they agreed that this was an issue that toyota should resolve. i contacted toyota usa and was told that they "technically" didn't have to do anything since it's not a recall and that because they already paid for the parts, that was the same as me "agreeing" that they did not have to pay for the labor. toyota should be responsible for fixing problems associated with a design flaw in a major structural element of the car. a bolt shouldn't rust in less than 4 yrs, especially when it's a safety concern. i think that with time, more yaris owners will begin to experience this and it should be looked into further before someone is hurt or killed as a result of this failure. i have found numerous complaints online from other yaris owners for this same thing and the apa in canada is requesting toyota canada recall the problem (10/28/11). *tr.Mileage was 53000 miles. Toyota Yaris 2007 Service Brakes Review #10562989 TOYOTA YARIS 2007 car safety problem was reported on Feb 02, 2014.TOYOTA YARIS 2007, manufactured by TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . both the parking brake and anti-lock brake system [abs] indicator lights illuminated while driving and with the parking brake not engaged. the lights remained illuminated. *tr upon inspection of the rear skid control sensor and skid control sensor wire [part of the abs], i found both the passenger and driver's side assemblies to be very wet and dirty with mud both inside and outside the electrical connector between the wire and the sensor itself on the hub assembly. on the driver's side, the electrical connector pins were badly corroded. so much so, in fact, that one of the pins was broken and partially disintegrated. with the connection being corroded and broken, the abs will not function. the electrical connectors for the skid control sensor are not protected by any sort of guard or boot, they're just regular, plastic-housing connectors with no waterproofing, yet they're in a location on the vehicle which is very much exposed to rain, snow, mud, etc. during normal driving conditions. the connectors are very vulnerable to corrosion and damage from the elements being exposed in this way and their premature failure due to this exposure causes a loss of a safety feature of the vehicle, the abs. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 89000 miles. got a 99 solara with abs light on trac off light on any clues to what could be problem,seems like a common problem '88 toyota camry i want to know if my car has the proper hooks required by law for a baby car seat?
