SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Feb 09, 2010.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with AIR BAGS:FRONTAL . i have a new 2010 subaru outback that seems to be a fine automobile except for one safety-related defect. we noticed soon after starting to drive the outback that the air bag indicator light showed that the passenger side air bag stays off when my 140-pound wife or 135-pound daughter ride in the passenger seat. we took it to a dealer who said there is no adjustment that can be made, but they re-calibrated the airbag electronics to see if that helped. it did not. i took the car back to the same dealer a couple of weeks later and was again told that there was nothing that could be done to make the passenger airbag work properly and that they have several of the new outbacks in for the same problem and nothing can be done to fix it. just as a test i took my wife out to the lot and had her sit in the passenger seat of another outback to see if that one worked. it did not . i conclude that there is a design flaw in the airbag sensors in the new outbacks that keep the passenger airbags from turning on when 135 to 140-pound adults sit in the passenger seat. *tr.Mileage was 3500 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 28, 2009.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with POWER TRAIN . my wife and i have been loyal subaru owners for over ten years, but we have encountered two troubling problems within the same year. the first problem was eventually taken care of by subaru of america after several months of going to different dealers to resolve the problem. we had a bad transmission which finally was recognized as the problem and it needed replacing but subaru of america decided it would buy back the 2009 subaru forrester which had this problem from the day my wife purchased it. we were told we had to buy another subaru but this we thought was no problem. my wife chose a 2010 outback and within a couple of weeks the nightmare started all over again. we thought how could this happen¿what are the odds of two cars from subaru having transmission issues. the first time was one thing but a second time? the transmission is electronic but it does not perform properly. we have taken it to the dealership a number of times have been told it is operating normally. we know the transmission is not supposed to slam into first gear when the car comes to a stop after being on the highway. the problem is way past annoying and we need to get to the bottom of this. my wife and i have been more than patient but enough is enough. we have test driven other models of this make and do not experience the transmission issue. my wife drives the car more than me seeing as it is her car but she is at wits end. we are way past being pissed off or extremely angry and want someone from subaru of america to check out this car. *tr .Mileage was 800 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 28, 2009.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with SUSPENSION:REAR . my wife and i have been loyal subaru owners for over ten years, but we have encountered two troubling problems within the same year. the first problem was eventually taken care of by subaru of america after several months of going to different dealers to resolve the problem. we had a bad transmission which finally was recognized as the problem and it needed replacing but subaru of america decided it would buy back the 2009 subaru forrester which had this problem from the day my wife purchased it. we were told we had to buy another subaru but this we thought was no problem. my wife chose a 2010 outback and within a couple of weeks the nightmare started all over again. we thought how could this happen¿what are the odds of two cars from subaru having transmission issues. the first time was one thing but a second time? the transmission is electronic but it does not perform properly. we have taken it to the dealership a number of times have been told it is operating normally. we know the transmission is not supposed to slam into first gear when the car comes to a stop after being on the highway. the problem is way past annoying and we need to get to the bottom of this. my wife and i have been more than patient but enough is enough. we have test driven other models of this make and do not experience the transmission issue. my wife drives the car more than me seeing as it is her car but she is at wits end. we are way past being pissed off or extremely angry and want someone from subaru of america to check out this car. *tr .Mileage was 800 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Mar 20, 2010.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with STEERING . purchased brand-new subaru outback-3.6 limited in late march 2010. at time of delivery (prior to signing papers), i notified the dealer of steering vibration. the dealer assured me that this was due to the need for the tires to break-in and to call service if it continued. the vehicle only had 3 miles on delivery. the steering vibration continued and i returned to service for a "potential solution" to the problem. unfortunately, this did not resolve the problem and i was notified by the service manager and soa that it may take several attempts to resolve since they do not know how to fix the problem. the vibration can actually be felt in the floor as a driver or passenger. the intensity of the vibration increases if you drive over bumpy roads. (almost as if something was loose in the front end) the frequency of the vibration increases at different speeds and is not predictable. what concerns me more than the vibration is the occasional pull to the right. almost feels like i hit a patch of ice and need to hold tight to the steering to avoid an accident. with concern for safety, i now drive with 2 hand on the wheel at all times in fear of the potential for an accident. at present, i am awaiting notice from the dealer on a "part" to arrive for the second round of attempts to resolve the problem. *tr.Mileage was 3 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 01, 2009.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with AIR BAGS:FRONTAL . my wife and i own a 2010 subaru outback. the passenger side air bag does not function properly or has a faulty design. the weight sensor is supposed to turn on the air bag when anyone over 100 pounds sits in the seat. my wife weighs 130 pounds. the air bag does not become active more than 50% of the time when she is sitting in the seat. subaru tells us that the sensor is functioning properly and is calibrated correctly, yet my wife continues to be unprotected more than half of the time. they offer no resolution to the problem other than recommending that she sit upright in the seat. the 2010 outback is all new this year and i believe that this air bag design is a flaw with catastrophic potential. this is a huge safety risk for people in or near this weight range. the air bag is supposed to come on for anyone over 100 pounds, but in reality isn't reliably engaging unless you are about 150 pounds or more. our local dealer has admitted to several complaints for the same issue. the internet also reveals others having the same problem. subaru needs to investigate the problem and probably initiate a recall in order to replace the sensor threshold with a lower weight limit so average size people will be protected. this top safety pick vehicle has a major safety issue. *tr.Mileage was 1000 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Apr 14, 2010.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with TIRES . our 2010 3.6r outback arrived in apr. the first time that the vehicle was taken on the highway, i noticed a prominent high frequency vibration in the steering wheel. there is also unusual feedback in the steering wheel at slower speeds that feels unlike anything related to road noise. i researched the "problem" on the internet and seen that there were many forums identifying the same problem for 2010 outbacks. i informed our local subaru service dept. about the vibration and made an appointment. a subaru service technician confirmed the vibration during a test drive and recommended a spin balance. after reading all the complaints and proposed "fixes" on the internet, i told them that i was not confident that a spin balance was going to be successful. i asked the service dept. manager if they had been informed/aware of the ongoing problems and she denied having any previous knowledge of steering vibration issues with any outbacks. the spin balance added a multitude of stick-on weights to all four wheels (some exceed 9 in. in length). the invoice said that a follow-up test drive by a technician produced normal steering as designed. a test drive home from the dealership on the highway again produced the same high frequency vibration. i informed the service dept. immediately and the vehicle was again left there this morning. i produced several pages of complaints found on the internet identifying this issue. they made copies of them and told me that they were going to contact soa factory engineers. the bottom line is this. the vibration is prominent enough to cause fatigue and numbness in the hands on extended drives. there is also a concern of what may fail and cause a loss of steering or vehicle control. the faulty component needs to be identified and the issue fixed by soa immediately. soa has tried a number of fixes without success (spin-balance, forced balance, alignment, backlash spring, wheel bearing, steering pump, replace out-of-round tires). *tr.Mileage was 100 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on July 24, 2010.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . subaru outback 2010 with cvt transmission bought new. numerous failures. the transmission first failed due to a solenoid open circuit that disabled the car. code p2762 ( last week in march, about 2,600 miles). that was fixed. after this event the transmission would on occasion disengage while still on drive. while driving slowly and after applying brakes to stop at a stop sign. the gas pedal would be depressed, the engine would roar but the car would not move. the transmission would re-engage after shifting to neutral or park and back to drive. the first time this event was reported to the subaru dealer a number of codes came up; c0057, c0045, c0231, c0232, c0282. subaru told the dealer to erase the codes and re-program the software. this event has occurred three times since then (last week of july 2010, about 9,000 miles). the next time was last week in august, about 10,200 miles. since the software was re-programmed no codes appear even though the events are identical. this event happened again in december 2010. i brought the car to the dealer (1/27/11). no codes were found. dealer says that if there are no codes and they cannot reproduce the event then it does not exist as far as they are concerned. the event occurred again in early february 2010.to be stopped at an intersection and press the gas pedal while the car is on drive with nothing happening other then high engine revs is a dangerous situation. consider being in a left turn situation. we have no sympathy from subaru. *tr.Mileage was 9000 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Aug 11, 2014.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with SEAT BELTS . my sons (7yrs old) was sitting on passenger side rear seat with booster seat and seat belt on. when we got home, i shut off the engine and he un-buckle the seat belt and was playing in the car. next thing i know the car (un-buckle) seat belt wrap him around.(i can forward photo of how the seat belt wrap him around(like a knot).. he was unable to free himself. i tried and was unable to pull the seat belt loose. i even let the safety(seat) belt "relax" but still unable to pull extra length of belt from the "c" pillar to loosen the "knot" around my son.....as he tried to free himself by "twisting his body around, the seat belt tighten whenever the "knot" around his body gets smaller....i took me almost 3-5 minutes to free him from this "know" by pushing the knot down pass his leg (like someone taking off their pants)..... i felt something is not right with this seat belt as there were no way for me to pull extra length of seatbelt to loosen the "knot". as you can see, if any adult not around, a child may get panic and try to free himself/herself by sliding down (ie.. like taking off a t-shirt) that this belt design that automatically tighten (and does not loosen when relaxed) would post a choking hazard, please let me know how i can upload/send the photo of the "knot" to you?.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 81798 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on July 10, 2014.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . condensation continually gathers inside one of the light fixtures. the car has not been in an accident and the bulb and fixture are installed to factory specifications-the dealer has checked this. i believe this is a safety issue-with the amount of condensation inside the light, the illumination of one headlight is greatly diminished making driving at night very difficult especially in dimly lit situations. i also do not believe that the combination of electric and water inside components is "normal" under any circumstances. i have contacted my dealer and subaru-the copy of the sent text follows-they do not respond. i believe the manufacturer of this component is making a faulty product that decreases safety. i just want them to replace the component at no cost to me since i've done nothing wrong. sent to subaru of america- "this is pertaining to problems with my headlights on my 2010 outback. i've been told by my dealer-goldstein subaru-that "condensation in the headlights is normal in the northeast" they also told me i "could drill a small hole in the light to let more air in". question-if it is "normal" why should i drill a hole-the light design should account for proper ventilation of the fixture-secondly how come no other cars on the lot have this, it only happens in one light and there are numerous other similar complaints from other subaru owners online? this is a safety issue-electricity and water do not mix-this "normal" condensation greatly reduces the illumination of the headlight and visibility during night driving-it's like driving with one headlight. i believe this is a manufacturer problem-my light was checked by the dealer-there is no damage and all the factory seals and bulbs are intact, yet water continually gets inside the fixture. i think subaru of america should replace this safety item at no cost to me. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Oct 05, 2011.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with SEATS . at approximately 6:35 a.m. cst i stopped at a red light. i recall hearing what i thought was a woman screaming, immediately followed by the sound of tires screeching as when brakes are quickly applied. i glanced into my rearview mirror and did not see any oncoming headlights. it was then that my car was hit from behind. i have no recollection of being thrown backward from the rear impact, or being thrown forward from the impact of hitting the car in front of me, or stopping. i also do not recall the deployment of the air bag in my steering wheel. my next thought was realizing that i was in a reclining position and seeing the bent hood of my car while looking through the right side of my windshield. i was in a great deal of pain. my lower back was burning and i had great pain in my left ribcage. i could also tell i had had my breath knocked out of me. my injuries included the following: 4 broken ribs on the left side (#6, 7, 8, and 9) lower lumbar strain bruises across my abdomen, right hip, inside of left calf, inside of right calf, outside of my left leg sprain of right ankle gash on the front of my left leg i have a picture of the broken seat if desired. i realize that the accident occurred some time ago but i do not recall if i sent this information to you or not. .Vehicle was involved in a crash. 1 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 16000 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on July 23, 2014.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with AIR BAGS . the passenger airbag is disabled when there is a passenger. on a trip to ga with my wife, who weighs 135 lbs, sitting in the passenger seat, the air bag light will indicate 'not enabled'. at times it will display enabled, then disabled all while driving. shifting in the seat doesn't do anything. in summary sometimes its on, sometimes not. we took this to the dealer and their response is they were unable to duplicate with a mechanic (probably a heavier person) in the passenger seat. their recommendation is to add weights(!!), replace the seat ($1400). their recommendations are unacceptable. they did tell my wife there may be dust or the contacts may be faulty. i don't know why they couldn't check for dust or remove, clean and re-connect contacts. nothing was mentioned about the switch. big safety issue not to be taken lightly, especially by the dealer. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 60000 miles. SUBARU OUTBACK 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 18, 2011.SUBARU OUTBACK 2010, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . the outside bulbs constantly burn out, it can be a headlight, (high beam, low beam) license plate light, brake lite, running lights....the inside lights have been ok this bulb issue started at 27,000 miles and has been a constant problem since. out of 24 service orders, nine of those orders have needed to have one or more bulbs replaced. i live in the foothills of calaveras county, california and the excuse the dealership gives me is that we have rough roads in these hills. well, i say, what a line of poop, i drive a subaru, it's made for our area. either i have an electrical problem that obviously started when the car was under warranty or that the bulbs that are being used are totally of bad quality. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 27290 miles.
