SUBARU LEGACY 2009 car safety problem was reported on Mar 20, 2011.SUBARU LEGACY 2009, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with AIR BAGS . i drive a 2009 subaru legacy sedan. the air bag light began to turn on since about 52,000 miles. when i shut off the car, the airbag light goes away but then periodically comes on every now and then. subaru is unable to answer as to why this is happening as a generic code is produced. i searched online forums regarding this issue and believe that there is a trend with the air bag system in the 2005-2009 subaru legacy's. multiple people have complained about this problem and says it has something to do with the air bag within the seat that connections could possibly come loose or the air bag module has gone bad. most report this happening around 45,000-60,000 miles. some report with this, sometimes the passenger air bag automatically turns off despite a passenger occupying the seat. a vehicle's safety system should not be compromised this early or at all. i strongly believe that this should be investigated before a casualty or injury results and a recall is issued regarding the air bag system. if subaru cannot answer to why their air bag light comes on, this raises some concern and needs to be looked into. only forums have been helpful and some say the seat needs to be replaced, which is estimated at $1900-$2100 because the air bags are built/sewn in the seat. this should not be the customer's responsibility if its the seats or safety system of the vehicle. this is the manufacturer's responsibility to keep its consumers safe and thoroughly resolve the matter before it regrets it did not do so in result of someone being injured or a casualty results. *tr.Mileage was 52000 miles. SUBARU LEGACY 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 23, 2014.SUBARU LEGACY 2009, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with ENGINE . car has been owned for 2.5 years and has been driving well. there have not been any cel or other warning light problem indications. car has had routine maintence, recalls and last synthetic oil change was done at van bortel subaru, victor, ny on 11/28/14 (67,433 miles). on 12/23/14 in the evning, following a 7 hour highway trip, car abruptly developed a loud engine knock with vibrations and was choking for gas. on 12/24/14, car was brought into my local mechanic who determined there was a major internal engine failure and the car was inoperable. vanbortel subaru service dept. was contacted and gave me a quote for a rebuilt subaru short engine block for $6,600. with only a two year warranty. they also said the repair was not covered under warranty since it had 68,000 miles on it. no " goodwill assistance" from the dealership or soa was offered even though they have serviced 7 of my famliy's subarus over the past 10 years. and, the '09 legacy has a history of engine problems as documented in various online owner forums (eg. nasioc) and by consumer reports who rated the '09 legacy as being "worse than average for major and minor engine problems" i had the short block engine swap performed by my independent mechanic and asked him to tear down the old engine. he reported that: "the # 1 connecting rod bearing completely failed and was grinding into the crankshaft. resulting in engine failure." he further noted that the engine oil was full. i have expressed my concerns to vanbortel subaru and soa for the decline in their quality, integrity, customer services and increased potential for a serious accident, injury or being stranded on a highway without any prior symptoms or warnings..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 68390 miles.
