SUBARU IMPREZA 2003 car safety problem was reported on July 04, 2003.SUBARU IMPREZA 2003, manufactured by Subaru of America, Inc. had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . the abs program installed on this car (wrx) is extremely sensitive. snow covered roads require extreme care because the abs engages ay too easily, resulting in very little stopping power. one time i was making a 90 degree left turn on wet asphalt; i had to brake suddenly. the abs didn't understand and the right side locked for one sec and i drifted off line, barely missing a median. forget about receiving maximum braking power over any undulating surface (even on a straight roadway), abs intrudes and stopping distance is severely compromised. nothing has resulted as of today, but who knows what the future will bring. most drivers will be thrown out by the intrusiveness of the abs program. conversely, a better than average driver will almost be able to avoid this scenario entirely. i discussed the deal with a dealer and they told me it was all normal. i agree, but the abs is still way too sensitive, and i have proof. i had a wheel speed sensor go out on my right rear side which disabled my abs. i drove the car for a few months afterward and the brakes were much more predictable and twice as easy to modulate. i was enjoying a non-abs car so much that i actually told the dealer it was no big deal and i would get it fixed once i fully understood the system. i eventually got the wheel speed sensor replaced and all is well, except for the fact that abs is still extremely intusive. i now have performance tires on the car and i still can't maximize their ability! *la.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 6000 miles. SUBARU IMPREZA 2003 car safety problem was reported on Dec 26, 2006.SUBARU IMPREZA 2003, manufactured by SUBARU OF AMERICA, INC. had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS . this is regarding a 2003 subaru impreza wrx. i am experiencing the fuel leak addressed in nhtsa action number : pe04002. i am located in albuquerque, new mexico. recently i have had the car outside in temperatures as low as 30 f (nights are spent in a garage next to a furnace--probably 40 f). i am having the fuel leak that you and subaru of america claim occurs at only "extremely low temperatures." i have had it occur three times, and both times the fuel smell persisted after 15 minutes of driving, even with windows open. the fuel smell was bad enough that it gave me a headache and was detectable in my garage the next day by both my wife and i (and my wife did not know about the smell, i asked her to check the next morning if she smelled anything to confirm my nose). i brought it to the dealer to fix. they never mentioned the tsb, the nhtsa investigation, or how common the problem is. they did diagnose exactly the problem noted in the tsb. after being quoted north of $600 to fix the problem, i brought the car home because parts needed to be ordered. researching on the internet i found multiple complaints on the web, including complaints on nasioc and clubwrx.com. i contacted subaru of america about the problem. i am still working with subaru of america to fix the problem, but based on others comments, subaru's response has been erratic, and i am not counting on anything.
