A recall was issued on Nov 09, 1978 for GRAND PRIX PONTIAC, manufactured by GENERAL MOTORS CORP., in response to SEAT BELTS:FRONT problems. THE INVOLVED VEHICLES CONTAIN SPLIT FRONT BENCH SEATS THAT MAY NOT HAVE THE CORRECT OUTBOARD PORTIONS OF THE LEFT AND RIGHT FRONT SEAT BELTS INSTALLED. THIS CONDITION WILL NOT ALLOW THE SEAT BELTS TO BE BUCKLED AND THEREFORE CONSTITUTES A NON-COMPLIANCE TO FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 209, "SEAT BELT ASSEMBLIES".. Follwoing is the summary of corrective actions taken:
VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH SPLIT FRONT BENCH SEATS.SYSTEM: INTERIOR; SEAT BELTS.CONSEQUENCES OF DEFECT: THE DEALER WILL INSTALL THE CORRECT SEAT BELTCOMPONENTS, FREE OF CHARGE, ON ALL AFFECTED VEHICLES.
