A recall was issued on Mar 20, 1997 for CORVETTE CHEVROLET, manufactured by GENERAL MOTORS CORP., in response to SUSPENSION:REAR problems. THE REAR SUSPENSION TIE ROD ASSEMBLY CAN FRACTURE.IF THIS WERE TO OCCUR WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, LOSS OF DIRECTIONAL CONTROL CAN RESULT INCREASING THE RISK OF A VEHICLE CRASH.. Follwoing is the summary of corrective actions taken: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE LEFT AND RIGHT-HAND REAR SUSPENSION TIE ROD LINKS.
OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN MARCH 31, 1997. GM ISSUED A STOP SALE TO THEIR DEALERS ON MARCH 20, 1997. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT CHEVROLET AT 1-800-222-1020.ALSO CONTACT THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION'S AUTO SAFETY HOTLINE AT 1-800-424-9393.
