Pontiac Grand Prix Engine And Engine Cooling Exhaust System Safety Report | Feb 22, 2011

Reported on Feb 22, 2011

MY 2002 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX WITH A 3.8 LITER ENGINE CAUGHT FIRE WHILE PARKED IN MY DRIVEWAY AFTER A SHORT TRIP. THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE CAR INVOLVING ENGINE FIRES. I TOOK THE CAR TO A GM DEALER AND HAD THE RECALL WORK DONE ON SEPTEMBER 16, 2010. THE CAR WAS LOST DUE TO THE FIRE ON FEBRUARY 22, 2011. I LATER FOUND OUT THAT THE RECALL FOR CARS WITH SUPERCHARGED ENGINES INCLUDED REPLACING THE VALVE COVER GASKETS. IF THIS HAD BEEN PART OF THE RECALL FOR MY VEHICLE, I BELIEVE THAT THE FIRE WOULD HAVE NEVER HAPPENED. *TR
