NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 15, 2010.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by NISSAN NORTH AMERICA, INC. had a problem with STEERING . the car has electronic steering and is a safety hazard in my opinion. the car will drift to the right on its own and when you steer it back to prevent running off the pavement the car veers to your left and would run off the road to your left if you do not correct it. on a straight stretch of road holding the steering wheel straight the car will dart to the left and then to the right without moving the steering wheel. on the test drive i rode in the passenger seat and could feel the car moving to the left and right, the service mgr said he could feel it also but said that was because of the crown in the road. this problem becomes a safety problem when on narrow four lane roads, you must constantly fight the steering wheel to keep the car on the road or keep from running into the car on your left. i have took the car to the dealer and was told that i would just have to get used to this because of the electronic steering is different from my previous cars. i was told there was no adjustment that could be made to correct this problem. i am 70 years old and have driven a few cars in my time and can tell you this car should not drive the way it does, it is just an accident waiting to happen. it feels as if the car is trying to drive itself without turning the steering wheel, there seems to be a problem with other vehicles with the electronic steering - ie: toyota and chevrolet and just wondering if they all have the same electronic steering components.. i sent nissan an email of my concern and dissatisfaction by the dealer saying nothing could be done to correct this problem. i can't believe they are blaming their problem on the crown in the roads!! *tr.Mileage was 250 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Apr 25, 2011.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with AIR BAGS . to whom it may concern: august 5, 2013 my husband and i own a 2010 nissan maxima that we purchased new in 2010. occasionally we have noticed that the passenger air bag light remained on for differing lengths of time and didn't think much of it. at some point we read the owners manual about this warning signal. it said the light should come on when you start the car and go off about 10 seconds later. this wasnâ??t always the case. this warning light tells me that the air bag will not deploy in case of an accident and a passenger in the passenger seat will have no protection. i view this as a very serious problem. air bag light on reads, "air bag"?? at this point, august 2013, the car has only 19,000 miles on it. through the last couple of years the problem has recurred, but more frequently. in the spring of 2013 we took the car to the dealer where we purchased it. they tested it with their computer and detected no problem. they said the computer didn't record any instances of that event occurring. recently we started doing some research on line about this problem and discovered that many people are having this very same problem. some responses that were given by nissan included passenger not heavy enough. one woman weighed about 110 pounds and another woman weighed about 145 pounds. their response wasn't logical. another response was that the leather wasn't soft enough. the seats in our car are fabric, and very soft. nissans response was stupid!! apparently nissan has no idea on how to solve this problem. my husband and i are very uneasy about using this car with this very serious safety issue. an easy fix that i would recommend is to disconnect the warning light and arm the airbag full time, even if no one is in the seat. looking forward to hearing from you. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Aug 31, 2011.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with POWER TRAIN . nissan maxima 2010 - sport edition. the cvt transmission exhibits severe lose of power on 75mph roadway driving between phoenix and flagstaff arizona, up elevation. lack of power is present in heavy traffic as well. on 75 mph highways the cvt begins to whine, the engine has high rpm, loud whining noise from cvt, and car gets stuck in 6th gear in both manual shift mode and drive mode. the vehicle will not accelerate or maintain speed with other vehicles at the posted 75 mph speed limit. the vehicle will not give a code but once gave a p1778 code - faulty solenoid or step up motor. this issue occurs frequently within city driving as well, in addition to high speed highways on long drives over hilly roads climbing up elevation. in city driving the cvt will not respond when the gas pedal is depressed leaving the vehicle in the center of traffic when entering a busy highway. at other times the vehicle is able to accelerate dramatically (normal) to the speed of cars on a busy main street (55mph). and, then suddenly the car just lacks power when entering a busy 3-4 lane street (55 mph) and you find yourself in the middle of busy 3-4 lane street with approaching oncoming traffic. the vehicle is barely able to get itself out of the way at full throttle. the problem has been getting progressively worst and did not occur when the car was purchased new. cvt fluid was changed at 44,000 miles prior to nissan recommendation. this cvt transmission sucks and the dealerships are giving customers a hard time since the problem doesn't not give a engine trouble code. the code p1778 eventually is cleared from the computer on its own when it does occur. the problem with this cvt transmission persists and is a major safety issue because the vehicle will suddenly fail to accelerate and maintain the posted speed limit during city driving and on high speed highways. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 35000 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 30, 2014.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . went to grocery store with 2 kids (3yrs/2yrs old) came out and car wouldn't start. yellow key light & red key light was lite on dash. the car would open and close with key fob but car still wouldn't start neither did it recognize the key fob when placed into slot. had to get it towed to repair shop to later find out a steering lock module had gone bad. read reviews online about different year models recalled for same part #487009n00b but no recall issued for 2010 maximas yet several people are having the same issue. repair shop and i can not get part listed above because its on national backorder was told i have to pay upfront for part $500 in order to be placed on a waiting list and part is ordered then would have to wait anywhere from 40 to 60 days and still not guaranteed. called nissan about issue and they can not do anything until the part is ordered. called around myself to find part and very difficult. if this part was an issue & recalled previously why did they continue to use it? and no alternate part has been made to replace existing part. im getting the raw end of the stick handed to me. 1st to pay out of pocket with no guarantee of the part 2nd to have to pay to have car towed 3rd for the part being on national backorder. i dont expect a car with 52,000 miles to give me issues like this & not be covered being that's its a known problem. im very frustrated at this point. i have to make alternate arrangements to get to work. this needs to looked into asap! *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 52000 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 27, 2013.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . on december 27, 2013, i was driving about 60 mph. in the midst of passing a vehicle, the car stalled and would not accelerate. the vehicle had to slow down and allow me to get in front of it because by now an oncoming car was approaching. i pulled over. i talked to my trusted car repair persons and one mechanic. it was thought to be bad gas. after putting a gas treatment in the car, it ran two months just fine. well, in the last two weeks beginning on march 8, 2014, my daughter was taking my vehicle to get an oil change to nissan in bossier, la (closest dealership to my small hometown). she drove about 13 miles and in the midst of passing a vehicle the car began to lose power again. she pushed the gas pedal but to no avail. only this time, not only did it decelerate but it quit altogether. the car did not have enough power to clear the highway completely, it had to be pushed. the car would crank but go dead immediately. after 5 tries, it would not start. again, i added a gas treatment and after 5 to 10 minutes, the car started. i took it to nissan to get an oil change. on the way home the check engine light came on. on tuesday, march 11, 2014, i took the car back to bossier to nissan. i got my tires rotated and the check engine light investigated. the technician told me that they did not find anything when they ran the diagnostic test. they told me everything was fine and to bring it back if the light comes on again. well on friday, i took it back because the check engine light came back on. nissan technicians check the car and said everything was fine. well, on sunday, march 16, 2014, i was on my car home. when entering onto i-220, the car drove fine for a few miles then it began to lose acceleration. at this very moment my car is at the dealership. i am investigating this matter because i do not want my life or anyone else'¿¿s life altered or lost. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 40123 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Feb 01, 2011.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with POWER TRAIN . cvt nissan 2010 maxima problems & issues ----these are recorded problems with nissan's new cvt transmission on nissan maxima 2010. the cvt exhibits lost of power, high rpm, loud whining noise, and cvt gets stuck in 6th gear (won't down shift) in manual and drive mode. the car will not accelerate at high speeds and gives a p1778 code (other codes as well). . this cvt transmission sucks. i took it to four dealerships. i was told nothing is wrong. the car was finally diagnosed with "check engine light on". the error code 1778 &. four other codes were pulled in total. the overall diagnosis is "complete cvt transmission failure"i contacted nissan consumer affairs. the code occurred at 44k, 65k, 85k miles, and 94k miles, and each time it was undiagnosable since the check engine light did not stay on. i was able to get this diagnosed with a check engine light on at 124,000 miles. at nissan consumer affairs i spoke with megan, juanita and then callia from the executive branch (so she says - she was a telephone representative). all of these nissan reps have no knowledge of nissan engines or cvt's. consumer affairs refused to believe that the dealers refused to acknowledge the problem exists, even despite the tsb's, warranty extension, numerous customer complaints, and my numerous calls over the past two years to nissan consumer affairs. all in all they did not even acknowledge the ongoing issues with the cvt. these nissan dealers, nissan service departments, and nissan consumer affairs are crooks --- i would advise anyone to not buy nissan cars. if you do have to buy a nissan beware that they will try to rip you off at every diagnosis and decision point on their part. i am very sorry to say. i used to think nissan was a good company. http://youtu.be/pd9zdcu9eym http://youtu.be/8v9lhh8kros http://youtu.be/btkfbfwjlsg. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 44000 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Nov 01, 2014.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with STEERING . our 2010 nissan maxima would not start. this presented an unsafe situation in which my wife was virtually stranded late in the afternoon with inclement weather. the ignition switch would not start the car when depressed and the steering wheel was locked. we attempted to use two separate key fobs for our car but neither worked. we had our car towed to the nissan dealership and they stated that it had a defective steering lock and therefore would not start. the parts needed and part numbers are shown below: ** steering lock (some referenced parts sources online also refer to it as an ignition lock assembly) (1 ea) part #: 48700-9n00b ** lock bolt/screw (4 ea) part # 48703-06f0a we were quoted an astronomical price of $1,650 dollars to replace the steering lock. it just seems outrageous and unbelievable! i read several complaints about the same issue online for owners of this same type of nissan vehicle. many had the same problem arise at roughly the same recorded mileage. this appears to be a mechanical defect that nissan has been aware of but has done nothing to remedy the problem. i know of absolutely no recalls for this problem. i believe that this problem constitutes an inherent mechanical defect in the design and construction of the steering and ignition system which presents a hazard for owners/operators, an unrealistic cost for an issue that actually should not occur, and leaves owners/operators stranded and because the system won't operate and turn on the vehicle. i see it as a major safety issue which should be examined closely for an immediate recall. i ask that you please take action with nissan to remedy this issue as quickly as possible. thank you. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 48000 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 08, 2014.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . we own a 2010 nissan maxima manufactured in 2009. we bought the vehicle new in january 2010. on monday, my car refused to start. after conducting some research, i discovered our vehicle has a defective escl which is leaving people stranded because their car won't turn on and neither will any accessory function there are hundreds upon hundreds of complaints on the internet from loyal customers who have spent $700 to $1600 fixing this problem. 2009 models are now part of an extended warranty program to replace this part. my vehicle is not part of that extended warranty even though it is the same exact part. yesterday, i called nissan of america to request that my vehicle be added to the extended warranty program. the employees informed me that i could take my vehicle to the nissan dealership for repair, pay the bill and then submit for a "good will" reimbursement that may or may not be granted after an undefined evaluation period. later in the evening, i spoke to a supervisor after she called. again, i received the same information. after 25 minutes, i finally got it bumped to the executive department for consideration of my request for appeal. frankly, i fully expect to have the same response tomorrow. i have not been on the phone dealing with this issue for almost an hour and a half. nissan want me to get the car fixed first and then submit a reimbursement that may or may not be granted. this is not acceptable. adding my vin to the extended warranty program will solve this issue. the bottom line is i am respectfully requesting that my vehicle be immediately added to the extended warranty program to replace the escl and for my tow bill to the dealership be reimbursed. this is a safety issue as it is leaving motorists stranded because they can't turn their car on, can't roll down the windows, and can't turn on any accessories. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 61000 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 13, 2014.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with STEERING . i have a 2010 nissan maxima. it was purchased about 3 months ago. as i was trying to leave work last week, the car would not start. there was a red key light on in the upper left corner of the dash. i called a local nissan dealer and they told me that my key battery was more than likely just dead. after i replaced the battery, the car still would not start. i called the dealer back and they told me that my key may need to be reprogrammed and i would have to tow the car to the dealership. after being at the dealer for an hour i was informed that the key was fine, and the issue was with the steering lock assembly. the consultant told me the repair would cost $925.82. i was shocked that a $5 issue had jumped to almost $1000. i immediately began researching the issue, and was able to find a statement by nissan north america (wbi/13-009) that admitted the part in question had been defective. nissan extended the warranty for the 2009 models to 6 years/ unlimited miles, but why would they not do the same for all models with the same issue? the consultant advised me to call 1-800-nissan1 to request compensation for the repairs. i was told that my vehicle was out of the 3 year/ 36,000 mile warranty and did not qualify, even though it was the same part that malfunctioned. i was also told that if they decided to do anything in the future i would be contacted later. i find this to be unacceptable. i do not think consumers should be responsible for costs associated with parts that are known to fail repeatedly. i have come across numerous forums, websites, and videos that discuss this same issue. i feel that nissan needs to take responsibility and actions to help loyal customers resolve this reoccurring malfunction that has left many stranded onside of the road. i hope that i will soon be reimbursed for this unexpected and outrageous expense. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 137000 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 12, 2014.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . the steering lock assembly is faulty in many 2009 and 2010 maximas, as well as other nissans. an extended warranty for 6 years/ unlimited miles was issued for 2009 maximas only, even though nissan knows that the same issue affects 2010 maximas. nissan has worked with other customers and reimbursed them for the faulty part they installed, but they were not interested in helping me because of the mileage on my car. however, if the same warranty was issued, i would have been covered since i still fall in the 6 year timeframe. nissan should issue a recall for these faulty parts, or at least extend the same coverage to other nissans since they know they installed a faulty part. i paid $869.17 for the part, $83.00 to be towed to the dealership since the car wouldn't start because of the faulty part, and $35.00 for a rental from the dealership. this was a very expensive issue to fix. nissan should reimburse me for this repair since the part installed is faulty and it is known by nissan that it is faulty. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 132796 miles. NISSAN MAXIMA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 05, 2015.NISSAN MAXIMA 2010, manufactured by Nissan North America, Inc. had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . i tried to start my car this morning but the car would not start. there was yellow light that said key and when i tried to depress the break nothing happened. there was an extended warranty for the 2009 maximas for the same exact issue that i have - its due to the stearing column locking. no extended warranty was given for the 2010's which is wrong because clearly there still a problem with the steering column that was not fixed for the 2010 models but nissan stated that is was infact fixed and no warranty/discount/etc will be given for the 2010s. i will have to pay over $1000 for faulty design due to nissan. never buying another nissan again!.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 72000 miles.
