MERCURY SABLE 2004 car safety problem was reported on Aug 03, 2004.MERCURY SABLE 2004, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE:DELIVERY:FUEL PUMP . this complaint concerns a 2004 mercury sable stationwagon. it was purchased 5 days before the incident. i was driving in rural poway on august 3, 2004. i apparently drove over a pebble or something - i heard a "thunk" under the car. almost immediately the car lost power, and came to a complete stop a few feet later. *ak apparently the problem was that the fuel line and/or fuel pump were injured. and most of a tankful of gas spewed out into the road. i managed to get out of the car safely, this time. no one hit the car, this time. no fire resulted from all of that gasoline, this time. but i'm bothered by two things: 1) is the fuel line, and/or fuel pump, so exposed and so fragile that a pebble will cause mayhem in the system? 2) is there any way to get a more gradual stopping of the car, so as to get further out of traffic than i was able to? this, as i see it, is bad engineering. i should add, in case you are wondering - i'm not a ditzy teenager. i'm a 54 year old woman, and up to now a pretty good driver. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 200 miles. MERCURY SABLE 2004 car safety problem was reported on May 15, 2008.MERCURY SABLE 2004, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with TIRES:VALVE . nhtsa action number pe08036 we purchased a set of michelin tires on oct, 06, from ntb in fredericksburg, va to put on my 2004 mercury sable. within the past 2 mths, i have had to replace all four valve stems. the first went flat, i took it back to ntb, they replaced it. within 2 weeks, another tire was leaking air. i took it to a different dealer, replaced that valve stem. the next morning i drove to work, when i parked the car, i heard air and another tire was leaking air. i had the last two valve stems replaced. the valve stems broke off. the last tire dealer , little tire in fredericksburg, va, gave me one they took off my car and said they looked as if the valve stems had dry-rotted. i contacted ntb about this problem asking if there was a defect or recall on the valve stems. they told me they would check it out and i have never heard back. i do think these valve stems need to be recalled. it is very dangerous. luckily, i pay close attention to my car and tires and noticed the leakage before the tire went completely flat or blew out but not all people do that. this is definitely a very serious problem. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mercury Sable 2004 problem was reported in WOODFORD, VA. MERCURY SABLE 2004 car safety problem was reported on June 10, 2010.MERCURY SABLE 2004, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN . without warning i experienced a loss of power with my 2004 mercury sable. after driving my car approximately 46 miles (i live 47 miles from job) i came to a stop sign and when i went to proceed through the stop sign, i was not able to do so. i had lost forward and reverse gears and the car would not move. there were no warning signs. no slipping, no banging, no grinding or any other noises that almost always are associated with transmission failure. i had the car towed to a transmission shop (aamco of mineola, ny) and the transmission was replaced. i never in all my 32 years of driving had a transmission fail in the manner that this transmission did. i also truly felt it was a torque converter or input shaft failure but i am not a mechanic (i do have a good knowledge of how a car and it's components work) and just decided to get the transmission fixed. i did not think much about this until i received a notice that my ford freestar is involved in a recall (11s25/nhtsa recall 12v-006) which described the same failure. it just so happens that it is also a model year 2004 and is equipped with the same model transmission (ax4s). i am now very confident that the transmission's torque converter failed just as it is described in the recall for my ford freestar. i believe that there is a design problem with the splines in the torque converter when it is manufactured and a possible failure of the input shaft (which the torque converter spins on). *tr.Mileage was 61000 miles. MERCURY SABLE 2004 car safety problem was reported on Nov 26, 2013.MERCURY SABLE 2004, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . i received a panicked phone call from my 16 year old daughter after a life threatening experience. she was driving at 35 mph when the car began to accelerate on it's own, the engine raced to 4,000 rpm and stayed there, while she frantically pressed the brake. thankfully she was able to contain control of the vehicle as she pulled off it the road. she immediately turned off the engine, after waiting a few minutes she started the car, again it raced to 4,000 rpm. after trying this multiple times i had the car towed home. a call to ford verified there has been no recalls or recall work done on this vehicle. i researched this issue online, to my amazement there are many people who have experienced this same issue.in fear for my child and anyone else who might drive this vehicle i have removed it from use, and feel stuck with unsafe vehicle. i am highly disappointed in the lack of response/resolve from the manufacture. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 54296 miles.
