Lincoln Town Car 2003 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Power Assist Hydraulic Hoses, Lines/piping, And FittingsLINCOLN TOWN CAR 2003 car safety problem was reported on Sept 27, 2006.LINCOLN TOWN CAR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:POWER ASSIST:HYDRAULIC:HOSES, LINES/PIPING, AND FITTINGS . my 2003 lincoln town car was slowing (foot off gas, coasting) down off-ramp from freeway because the stop light at the bottom of the off-ramp was red. when i began to apply the brakes to come to a complete stop, the car lurched forward violently as the front brakes locked completely, causing the car to slide to a stop. i could not move the car forward or backward in gear, and could not get it to coast in neutral. the car could not be manually pushed from its resting spot and i had to have it winched onto a flatbed tow truck and taken to the lincoln dealership. the repair manager told me after investigation that the lining inside the brake lines leading to the calipers had been slowly flaking off into the brake fluid. when sufficient amounts had collected in the fluid they acted like a check-valve, allowing fluid into the calipers to actuate the brakes but would not allow the fluid to return and the brakes could not release. the repair consisted of replacing both front brake lines and both caliper units, costing over $600. only moments before the brakes locked my car had been at speeds of 55 - 65 mph on the freeway. had i needed to apply the breaks while at those speeds, the results would have been devastating; my car would have been sliding out of control in heavy freeway traffic and likely would have led to severe injury or death of my family members or other drivers/passengers. the lincoln dealership searched for recall and/or safety bulletins from the manufacturer and could find none. i'm infuriated by this ~ it is an apparent design and/or manufacturing defect, admittedly seen several times before over recent years by the mechanics at my local dealership, yet nothing has been done to address it. i suspect that it's not a "severe" enough situation yet because there have been no deaths reportedly linked to the catastrophic failure i survived. *nm.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 95492 miles. Lincoln Town Car 2003 Engine And Engine CoolingLincoln Town Car 2003 Engine And Engine Cooling Review #10400802 LINCOLN TOWN CAR 2003 car safety problem was reported on May 03, 2011.LINCOLN TOWN CAR 2003, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING . i was driving from florida to south dakota and started up the first foothill of the ozark mountains about 35 miles west of jonesboro, arkansas on us 63. the cruise control had just started to increase the engine rpms when i heard a bang followed by what i thought was a belt or something thumping on the inside of the hood. fortunately there was the 2nd entrance to a rest stop on us 63 immediately to my left and i pulled into the parking lot. us 63 is a 2 lane highway with an occasional passing lane on some hills. it was also fortunate it happened at that point or i would have been in a difficult and dangerous position with little room to get safely off the highway with the narrow shoulders and rock cuts right up to the road. i opened the hood and restarted the engine in the parking lot. it was then i found something exploding on the passenger side of the engine. i could smell a lot of gas and shut the engine off immediately. i called aaa and was carried back to jonesboro on a flatbed about 3 hours later. i went to cavenaugh ford the next morning and the problem was diagnosed as a spark plug blown out of the #3 cylinder. the repair with a full set of new plugs installed in addition to the bad cylinder cost $629 plus an additional $190 for towing. one additional plug on the driver side of the engine was also loose and a potential blowout. these plugs were factory original and have not been changed since the car was new. the mechanic told me the plugs were not properly torqued in at the factory which results in loosening of the threads in the head over time from the percussion in each cylinder. this appears to happen quite often on the 4.6 and 5.4 liter engines. i was lucky since many fires have also occurred because of these plugs blowing out of the engine. *tr.Mileage was 104400 miles.
