KIA OPTIMA 2013 car safety problem was reported on Oct 18, 2012.KIA OPTIMA 2013, manufactured by KIA MOTORS CORPORATION had a problem with SUSPENSION . at highway speeds vehicle is not stable. i have had it checked at the dealer and they say that everything is within specs. vehicle doesn't pull in one direction, but it has a hard time tracking down the road. slight imperfections, wind, or tire issues will cause the vehicle to dart left/right. an immediate correction on the steering wheel is required which is slightly more than required to return to center-line and thus requires another correction in the reverse direction. any deviation from the center-line requires two corrections and extreme vigilance on the steering wheel. it is easy characterized as a wandering, but is more accurately described as an unsettled issue at highway speeds. it is also most obvious at highway speeds around 70mph. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 2800 miles. KIA OPTIMA 2013 car safety problem was reported on Oct 24, 2012.KIA OPTIMA 2013, manufactured by KIA MOTORS CORPORATION had a problem with STEERING . about a day after i bought my brand new 2013 kia, i noticed that the vehicle veered to the left. i took it back that weekend to get an alignment and the dealer told me that it wasn't an alignment, but that the steering column was off. so, they adjusted that. when i took delivery of the vehicle again, the issue was still there. i took the car to them again, and this time, they said the steering wheel was twisted. i then moved from va to fl two days later. at this point i only had about 1200 miles on my car. during the trip, i noticed the steering doing the exact same issue. i called the dealer and asked them to just tell me what the issue was with the car. i was told that my vehicle was made with a batch of other vehicles that had this issue and there is a technical bulletin involved with it. she said its protocol to bring the vehicle in multiple times so that they can rule out certain issues. she stated the next step was to redo the suspension. unfortunately for me, i had to go to a different dealer for this because i was now in fl. also, unfortunately for me, the first dealer didn't record when i went in the first two times. so when i go to this new dealer at 2500 miles, they have no idea what i'm talking about, give me an alignment that doesn't solve the issue and send me on my way. this is truly ridiculous. i bought a new car to avoid these issues. and kia needs to own up and fix these steering wheel issues properly. i'm going back to the dealer again tomorrow. please recall this steering wheel issue. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 498 miles. KIA OPTIMA 2013 car safety problem was reported on Feb 09, 2013.KIA OPTIMA 2013, manufactured by KIA MOTORS CORPORATION had a problem with SUSPENSION . i've owned this vehicle for about one week. within the first two days i noticed a slight drifting of the vehicle while driving above 40 mph, but dismissed it as being caused by the high winds that were occurring during that time. over the next few days, these drifting experiences lingered. the worst experience occurred 02/14/13, between 5:30pm and 6:15pm, a high traffic period, on a freeway which is currently under construction. after making a left turn from a traffic light onto the freeway, i proceeded into the left lane. within a few feet, or acceleration to 50 mph or so, the front wheels, began to pull toward the right. both of my hands were on the steering wheel the entire time, but i had to steer slightly left to correct to avoid going into the right lane. a few seconds later, the same scenario occurred as above. i next changed to the right lane as my exit was nearing. within 3/4 mile there is a slight curve left, which the car had issues cornering and again led to my having to steer to correct. this is safety concern, a serious one. this is not a random, every so often occurrence. it is daily, frequent, if i travel on a freeway or anytime speed limits are above 35 mph. there are other instances of what appear to be cornering issues. left turns are awkward if you follow proper procedure for turning into the lane closest to you. most turns end up wide, as if you're driving a wider chassis vehicle, i.e. a pick-up or suv. the steering defect even appears noticeable upon parking, as the steering wheel is always a hair off center when you park straight in a stall or space. in the city i reside in the state of nevada, constant road construction, lanes that change from horizontal to zig-zag every few feet, the last thing needed is a car that has any hint of a fault with steering or suspension. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 22 miles. KIA OPTIMA 2013 car safety problem was reported on Mar 11, 2013.KIA OPTIMA 2013, manufactured by KIA MOTORS CORPORATION had a problem with STEERING . regarding to the previous complaint, veh was taken to dealer on 3/15/2013 to adjust the alignment under warranty due to the alignment issue starting after the engine was replaced at 3,400 by the dealer. left the dealer and immediately noticed that the steering wheel was now turned to the left and the vehicle was pulling to the right. the car pulled to the right significantly. the same dealer was contacted on 3/18/13 regarding the issue. due to the recent engine replacement, one alignment trip and a distance of roughly 50 miles to the shop, the dealer authorized a loaner to be brought to my place of employment so that the driver could take the veh to he shop. veh was picked up that evening at the dealer and steering wheel seems to be level. there is still a left to right constant handling issue and vehicle seems to have a vibration under 35 mph. veh has now spent 11 days in the shop (9 days for engine replacement and 2 days for two alignments) and has been owned for just under 12 weeks. veh is also slow/sluggish leaving a stopped position and mpg's on cruise control set at 60mph have fallen from 33mpg to 29.5mpg since engine replacement. date complaint filed: 03/13/2013 component(s): engine and engine cooling date of incident: 03/11/2013 nhtsa id number: 10502730 manufacturer: kia motors corporation vehicle identification no. KIA OPTIMA 2013 car safety problem was reported on June 26, 2014.KIA OPTIMA 2013, manufactured by Kia Motors Corporation had a problem with STEERING . i purchased a 2013 kia optima from a local dealer who was selling it second-hand. the car has 13,500 miles on it at purchase. when test driving the vehicle i went in a small circle that included only very minimal highway driving. on june 26,2014 my family left for a 5 hour trip to charleston, sc. it was on this trip i started noticing very early on that i was having to constantly correct the steering to the left and then back to the right, over and over and over again...all the way down to charleston. since noticing this problem has been an issue every single time i've driven the car on the highway, and it has resulted several times in me veering into the lane beside whether to the left or right. i literally have to continuously micro-steer the car just to keep it within the lane it's supposed to be in. there is absolutely no play in the steering whatsoever. you cannot look in your side view or rear view mirror without the car drifting to the right or left. there is a serious problem with the steering in the 2013 optimas. i know for a fact that there have been many complaints about this to kia, and kia does nothing about it because they say it's within specs. there will be many head on crashes where cars cross the center lane because of this steering, and im sure many fatalities will result. i can promise you this will happen if it already hasn't. there are certain 2013 kia/hyundai models that have had this same problem reported. 2013 was the first year kia/hyundai utilized electronic steering. 2014 and newer models also have electronic steering but they have three steering modes on them to adjust the steering. this problem is specific only to 2013 models. there absolutely needs to be a recall and something done about this before someone is killed. it will happen, and i will be keeping this correspondence for my own future legal protection..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 13500 miles. KIA OPTIMA 2013 car safety problem was reported on June 23, 2014.KIA OPTIMA 2013, manufactured by Kia Motors America had a problem with POWER TRAIN . the traction control system is designed so poorly that when i pull into traffic from a stop i have to disable the system completely or risk being a sitting duck in the middle of an intersection. it seems that if the traction control system detects any amount of tire slippage it cuts power to both wheels completely. your instinct is to press the accelerator harder to make the car get out of the intersection which causes the wheels to slip when the car reapplies power and the whole problem starts again and you are still in the intersection. the power is cut so dramatically that it is almost as if the brakes are being applied and vehicle occupants lurch forward. after a second or two the vehicle gradually reapplies power. the only way to avoid this is to disable the system which has to be done each time you start the car. if you forget to disable it you are fumbling on the dash while driving to disable it. when i reproduced the event at the dealership they said that this was how the system is designed to work. all it takes is a couple rocks on the ground, a little rain, or even a heavy fog and the system will completely kill the power for between 1 - 2 seconds when you start off from a stand still..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 17000 miles.
