HYUNDAI SONATA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Oct 23, 2010.HYUNDAI SONATA 2010, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES . our 6 month old child must have eaten too much or had an upset stomach and began to vomit. my wife and i begin to panic because of possible choking. so we are doing 40 mph on road with no shoulder and cars all around looking for a place pull off. but he's not choking yet, so i'm still driving. finally a shoulder, so i pull off and stop. this is a rental car, but is no different from many other cars in that much to our dismay she finds that although she can open her door and get out she can't get into his door) because problem #1 it's one of those cars that has the doors that lock automatically when you take it out of park or move more than 5mph or something like that. so now we are fighting with the buttons on our respective doors, both trying to unlock his door, in our panic not thinking through that maybe i have to put it in park and they'll all unlock themselves. now i'm panicking again - she's about to crawl over the seat, i'm about to start tearing pieces off this car but i can't get out cause cars are flying by my side. so she finally reaches around and unlocks his door from the inside and gets him out of the car seat. he's ok. whew! i really believe these auto locks are a bad idea, and i have from the start, but now i know i never ever want a car of mine to have that feature and i will always disable it. in the meantime i have learned that while i have this rental car i can wait for the doors to lock and hit the unlock button and they will stay unlocked. which brings me to problem #2. the unlock button on the door does not have the same symbols on it as the unlock button on my remote car key. and the symbols on the door button are far too small - i have to lean forward and squint to figure out which position is "unlock." the car key has the symbols of an open padlock and closed padlock. these to me should be the same symbols used on the door button - they should be a universal symbol, and they should be big enough to see from my seat. *tr.Hyundai Sonata 2010 problem was reported in DERWOOD, MD. HYUNDAI SONATA 2010 car safety problem was reported on May 20, 2010.HYUNDAI SONATA 2010, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . my 2010 hyundai sonata has a low beam defect that is a danger to drive at night , especially on hilly country roads. there is a black band that erases the field of view for objects on or alongside the road. by the time the car had 5k miles on her - she had been in twice to have the headlights checked and i was told they were adjusted as high as they could go and to use high beams if i couldn't see. i called hyundai customer service and after getting nowhere i finally got a manager on the line and he promised that an engineer would be sent to my dealership and look over the problem -this never happened so when i called i was told to go back to the dealership so they could look at the lights again i get flashed by oncoming cars because they think my highs are on when they are not. i can't imagine what they see when my highs are on. if i drive under streetlights or have oncoming cars in my view i don't see the black band but what i do see is my lights bouncing off road signs with only splotches of letters being illuminated and the rest of the sign dark. if something , like a deer, were in the road or by the side of the road i would never see it. i do not want to cause an accident, kill someone, hit debris in the road or hurt myself in a crash because the lights have a faulty design. . i read that other 2010 sonata owners are having this same problem so when is hyundai going to do something about it and fix the problem or replace our cars? i wrote to hyundai and they claim that the lights are working as designed and i should take my car in to check my lights if i am having problems. i had already been told by the service center during my first visit that it is a design flaw so i'm sensing a catch 22 here. i called the service center and told them i need to have a technician drive the car in the dark before closing hours. in the meantime, and until this gets fixed , the black band greatly impedes night driving and is a hazard. *tr.Mileage was 1500 miles. HYUNDAI SONATA 2010 car safety problem was reported on May 20, 2010.HYUNDAI SONATA 2010, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VISIBILITY . my 2010 hyundai sonata has a low beam defect that is a danger to drive at night , especially on hilly country roads. there is a black band that erases the field of view for objects on or alongside the road. by the time the car had 5k miles on her - she had been in twice to have the headlights checked and i was told they were adjusted as high as they could go and to use high beams if i couldn't see. i called hyundai customer service and after getting nowhere i finally got a manager on the line and he promised that an engineer would be sent to my dealership and look over the problem -this never happened so when i called i was told to go back to the dealership so they could look at the lights again i get flashed by oncoming cars because they think my highs are on when they are not. i can't imagine what they see when my highs are on. if i drive under streetlights or have oncoming cars in my view i don't see the black band but what i do see is my lights bouncing off road signs with only splotches of letters being illuminated and the rest of the sign dark. if something , like a deer, were in the road or by the side of the road i would never see it. i do not want to cause an accident, kill someone, hit debris in the road or hurt myself in a crash because the lights have a faulty design. . i read that other 2010 sonata owners are having this same problem so when is hyundai going to do something about it and fix the problem or replace our cars? i wrote to hyundai and they claim that the lights are working as designed and i should take my car in to check my lights if i am having problems. i had already been told by the service center during my first visit that it is a design flaw so i'm sensing a catch 22 here. i called the service center and told them i need to have a technician drive the car in the dark before closing hours. in the meantime, and until this gets fixed , the black band greatly impedes night driving and is a hazard. *tr.Mileage was 1500 miles. HYUNDAI SONATA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Oct 12, 2013.HYUNDAI SONATA 2010, manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . vehicle started to make a heavy grinding noise from passenger side rear wheel. closer inspection revealed a fresh gouge in the rotor. took the car to the dealer where the vehicle was purchased and was informed that this was a normal wear and tear item, and not covered under warranty (even though a "gold" warranty had been purchased with caliper replacement plainly included). this indianapolis dealership wanted to charge $380 to replace the rear brake pads and rotors. an independent repair shop found that the drivers side of the rear had approximately 40% of the life left on the brake pads and only normal wear to the rotor, while the passenger side was worn down to the metal on the pads and had rendered the rotor unserviceable. it was also noted that the wear indicator on the passenger side was broken, and did not give the normal audio warning of excessive wear. when asked why the rear should wear out faster than the front (which is what all local brake shops told me would happen), the hyundai service manager did not have any reply. it should be noted that there are several instances of similar failures, and even a class action lawsuit filed in new york state for the exact same issue. a sticking brake caliper is suspected, but could not be confirmed. rear brake pads, rotors, and hardware were replaced at my expense. the brake caliper was cleaned, lubed, and reinstalled. dealership would not honor any warranty obligation for this defect. front brakes also showed at least 40% of their life remaining on the pads. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 56660 miles. HYUNDAI SONATA 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 20, 2013.HYUNDAI SONATA 2010, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY . the passenger side door handle fell off in my hands. no force was used and no noise was made (ie: cracking or and other pieces were seen that fell off other then the handle itself). this door and the rear doors are very rarely used, i have no kids and am the only 1 that uses this car and very rarely have any passengers. the driver's side is the one i open regulary. i called hyundai dealership where i got the car and they claim there are no recalls are on this despite knowing of other's who had had multiple doors break in a similiar fashion and seeing many other incidents of this reported on nhtsa site. they didn't seem to care either or record the information of this issue. in checking hyundai dealership's are charging between $200 to $300 to repair the door handle. this is a safety issue if someone cannot get into the car to rescue someone or if they are trying to retrieve a child. in reading the other complaints i hope my other 3 don't break now and i'm on the hook to repair those out-of-pocket to. this is obviously shoddy workmanship. in all my years/multiple cars i never had a car door handle break. its very cheap plastic..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 94000 miles.
