Hyundai Genesis 2009 Exterior Lighting HeadlightsHyundai Genesis 2009 Exterior Lighting Headlights Review #10255185 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 10, 2009.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS . subject: hyundai genesis 2009 4.6 litre. new car 2000 miles driven. when one comes to a stop with the engine running and transmission in "drive" and then when the stop/start button is pressed, the engine stops but when the gear shift lever is pushed forward from "drive" towards "park" it will only travel as far as "neutral". this is a hazard as anyone not familiar with driving the car might assume the car is in "park" or leave it in "drive" or ""neutral", walk away and permit the car to free wheel roll. in a conventional car without a keyless feature, it is impossible to get the keys out of the ignition until the gear shift is placed in "park", a feature in place for many years and universally accepted. when one turns off the engine as described above there is a momentary warning message displayed on the dash which says, "move into park" but as described above one cannot shift the lever past "neutral" unless the stop/start button is pressed and the motor restarts. in other words, one cannot put the car into "park" without the leaving the engine running. it seems to me that there should be a voice warning which says, "restart engine and place in "park". after having a bit of a scare parking on the steep grade i have learned the hard way but i remain concerned about our friends and auto service personnel who will drive the car and who are not familiar with this car. *tr updated 03/09/10 *bf updated 04/05/10 *bf the consumer stated it was determined the problem with tpms was the an issue from the headlight voltage regulator assemblies creating a radio frequency and canceling or confusing the signal present fromt the left front tire sensor to the computer system for the tpms. updated 04/29/10 .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1500 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 SuspensionHyundai Genesis 2009 Suspension Review #10280303 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 10, 2009.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SUSPENSION . in my opinion there is a defect in 2009 hyundai genesis sedan v6 model the suspension behavior changes abruptly when going from driving nicely smooth freeways to more stand surfaced urban streets. the ride on the former is normally smooth, firm but acceptable however on the later the wheels bounce so badly that at times they break contact with the street surface. it literally tosses the rear occupants around and makes it difficult for the driver to control the vehicle. i have tried everything i can do including change the wheels back from the optional 18inch rims to 17inch rims and increasing the tire series from the sporty 55 series to the must compliant series 60 tire recommended by the factory. *tr.Mileage was 150 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Vehicle Speed ControlHyundai Genesis 2009 Vehicle Speed Control Review #10313842 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 17, 2010.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . when i was trying to enter an expressway from an entry ramp, i stepped on the gas and got no response. the engine did not rev up as it would if the car was in neutral. i coasted to the apron , turned off the car, and restarted it. the gas responded normally after restarting but the engine light stayed on. i took it into the dealer and they reprogrammed the engine control unit, which, so far, has fixed the problem. i was told that the computer just lost track of the accelerator position. while this is not quite as dangerous as toyota's problem, it could still get someone killed if they are trying to pull out in traffic and gets no gas response. on the genesis owners forum there are at least 2 other similar incidents that have been reported. i wrote to hyundai to report this issue and they responded that they would log this incident. however i do not know when they send info to nhtsa. *tr.Mileage was 20665 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 SteeringHyundai Genesis 2009 Steering Review #10314454 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Nov 30, 2009.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with STEERING . information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6) i bought the new hyundai genesis (motor trend of the year 2009). i soon realized (within 200 miles of new car ownership) that car was pulling to the left (sever pull) and to maintain a constant pressure to the right side on the steering (steering at 15 degree right angle) to maintain car drive straight. very soon i researched the unique problem. almost all hyundai genesis owners have made similar complaints to hyundai dealers. hyundai has been hiding a huge potential problem with new genesis model (2009). many owners have been complaining and no action is being taken by the company. hyundai is trying to blame this issue on tires - that is deflect their issue to someone else. but this is not the case. to verify, research this problem by google.com - "hyundai genesis steering issue and left or right pull" and you will get more than hundred similar complaints from new owners since 2008/2009 model release. i have been to the dealer 3 times to fix this issue within 3000 miles - but hyundai dealers are just performing alignments - but doesn't fix the problem. we need help from nhtsa (government) as thousands of customer like myself are stuck - and a powerful foreign corporation is unwilling to budge!! please help - i am willing to donate my car for your testing. but this is a disaster waiting to happen as steering doesn't drive straight and veers of to left (or right). do americans need to die before you take any actions? please call me [xxx] to discuss. thanks. *tr .Mileage was 200 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 TiresHyundai Genesis 2009 Tires Review #10339238 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 21, 2010.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with TIRES . on april 21, 2010, i took my wife's hyundai genesis in for servicing. the previous servicing was done at 8,936 and there was no wear problem involving any of the tires. the mileage on april 21 was 13,839; less than 5,000 additional miles. at this appointment i was informed that all four tires no longer met minimum tread standards for safe operation. in fact, areas of the tires had no tread at all and the dealer invoice stated that the "tires require immediate replacement." even though i have an extended warranty on this vehicle, i was informed that hyundai does not warrant the tires on the genesis. i expressed to the dealership that they had put my family's safety at risk -- with my wife driving our grandchildren around town on less than a measurable level of tread, posing a dangerous safety situation, with no knowledge of what was occurring to the rubber. the dealership, through its sales manager, did not want to address the safety issues involving its tires. the response was "it's not our problem." i believe it is hyundai's problem. after subsequently checking general websites, the tire issue is one they are aware of. however, they appear to be waiting until someone suffers a loss of control, a blowout, or an accident possibly resulting in a death before they take action. i believe hyundai of america and its dealerships: 1. are deceptive in their advertising practices. 2. knowingly placing a defective product on their genesis vehicles. 3. actions are fraudulent, since they do not disclose to consumers that they do not warrant the tires on the genesis. 4. should be issues a "cease and desist order" involving these tires ( dunlop, sport 5000, p235/50r18). and 5.the nhtsa fine hyundai for their civil, and potentially criminal, fraudulent conduct by knowingly violating national safety standards. additionally, i am making a claim to hyundai for reimbursement of the $736 i had to pay for new tires. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Seat BeltsHyundai Genesis 2009 Seat Belts Review #10557540 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Nov 10, 2013.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company had a problem with SEAT BELTS . my vehicle was hit in the rear while exiting a highway on the exit ramp approaching a state hwy. ,traveling at approximately 25-30 mph at the time.the impact deployed the headrests but the seat belts did not restrain the driver or the person in the passenger seat causing head trauma to the driver.as a result of hitting the steering wheel. the driver was taken , by ambulance,to the hospital for medical treatment. that day i contacted my dealer and requested that the vehicle be inspected ( seat belts and head rest) at a local dealer the next day and the head rests be re-set. hyundai refused to allow the dealer to touch the vehicle and hired a 3rd party engineering firm to inspect the vehicle. the inspection was perform at my local dealer and i was present during the inspection ( measurements only were taken). hyundai contacted me and said that seat belts and head rests were found to be operating according to design. they also directed me to safecar.gov website for my requested crash test date which they did not supply. i checked the website and only found rollover, frontal and side crash data. i would like to have the nhtsa review test data for rear end collisions with both vehicles moving at speeds between 25-30 mphfor 1st vehicle and 40 mph for the 2nd vehicle. i believe that the headrests will deploy but the seat belts will not restrain the driver and the passenger. this is a safety issue that cannot be known to the genesis owners until it is too late. i do not have the resources to have the engineering done to prove my position but nhtsa has the data or can conduct the appropriate tests to save another unknowing owner from possible severe injury. hyundai 's response was that the vehicle met all the federal motor vehicle safety standards. *tr .Vehicle was involved in a crash. 1 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 70000 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Service BrakesHyundai Genesis 2009 Service Brakes Review #10557912 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 17, 2013.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . on 11/5/13, i received email noticed from nhtsa's odi of campaign id number 13v489. upon clicking the link i was provided further information including the following: "hyundai will inspect the hecu module for proper operation, and will replace the modules as necessary." after receiving a notice from hyundai for a different recall (13v113), i contacted hyundai, and made an appointment to have recall service for both campaigns done at carousel hyundai, west chester, pa on 12/17/2013. carousel insisted the brake fluid service was based did not include component inspection based on service bulletin 13-01-006-02, and failed to perform an inspection, but noted on my invoice "completed campaign tl6 as required." on 12/30/13, i contacted hyundai by telephone, asked why the dealership did not have the proper information to perform the inspection and was told that the recall information was not available to the dealership until after my vehicle was taken in for service on 12/17/13. i was then informed that if i wanted the brake system components inspected for corrosion damage, i would need to take the vehicle in for an additional recall service. since nhtsa provided me with the proper recall information for this campaign on 11/5/13, it is not clear why hyundai failed to provided this information to their authorized service network until after 12/17/13, more than 30 days later, resulting in improper servicing to complete the nhtsa campaign. many consumers are unlikely to challenge the lack of inspection and may therefore continue driving vehicles that are improperly serviced, and present a potential life safety and collision damage risk. meanwhile, i will be required to wait longer and spend additional time to have the proper servicing performed. carousel did take the time to inform me about other, unrelated, servicing they recommended, and offered to perform for a fee. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 16300 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Service BrakesHyundai Genesis 2009 Service Brakes Review #10578420 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 06, 2014.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . i was traveling approximately 25 mph in a residential neighborhood, preparing to come to a stop at an intersection when i depressed the brake pedal and it went all the way to the floor without stopping the car. i pumped the brakes and it then engaged and stopped the car. i carefully and slowly drove the car to the dealership the following morning. after inspecting the car, the dealership told me that the hecu and abs module would need to be replaced and the brake fluid flushed and replaced. they said this would cost about $3,000 and they contacted my extended warranty insurance carrier to attempt to get the cost covered by insurance. a day later the dealership told me that the insurance company had sent an inspector out to test drive the car and would send another inspector tomorrow to inspect the hecu and abs module and they're still attempting to work with them to get the cost covered. i took the car in for the safety recall on 10/24/13 and the brake fluid was replaced, and i also had new brakes installed on 3/8/14, yet i still had the brakes fail a month later. hyundai should be doing the repairs without question and instead they're trying to get the extended warranty insurance carrier to cover it and i'm having to wait it out while they bicker about costs. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 50750 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Service BrakesHyundai Genesis 2009 Service Brakes Review #10595366 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on May 29, 2014.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . i approached a stop sign and prepared to stop. the brake pedal felt normal at first, but suddenly the pedal went nearly to the floor. the abrupt change in the pedal, position resulted in my proceeding half way through the intersection before stopping. fortunately there was no cross traffic at the time. my dealer diagnosed the problem as a failure of the abs module, a $2500 repair. hyundai issued a recall on my vehicle to replace the brake fluid which was felt to be corrosive and could result in failure of the abs module. i had this performed in december of last year. hyundai's warranty covers this part for 60,000 miles or 5 years. my car is no longer covered by the warranty since it is over 5 years old, and in spite of the low mileage, hyundai so far has denied any compensation. obviously the intended fix, changing the brake fluid, did not work, and caused the module failure. since the company was aware that this could happen, it seems the proper thing to do would be to extend the warranty on this part for older vehicles. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 29100 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Service BrakesHyundai Genesis 2009 Service Brakes Review #10596432 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Oct 04, 2013.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . brakes went to the floor, upon trying to stop for a traffic light..... pumped brakes over and over, still no resistance in the brake pedal. began to prepare to downshift the a/t and start evasive maneuvers so i didn't jeopardize other near by drivers (and myself). as i prepared myself for an accident, the brake pedal become "spongy" and after pumping it a couple more times.... it finally began to work. i was beside myself! as a retired md state trooper, i knew how to stop the vehicle; however i couldn't believe the car i loved was failing me! at the next intersection, i pulled over, allowed the car to cool down and check fluid levels (everything was within normal limits) and there were no visible leaks under the vehicle or on the ground. on 10-18-2013....my vehicle was taken to hyundai and hyundai replaced my brake fluid, even though it wasn't necessary i had the front brake pads replaced, and the 60k mile service completed. at this time, there was no recall on this hyundai brake issue. it is now june 2014 (mileage is now 74k) and my brake pedal is becoming spongy again and my stopping distance is becoming longer........i'm afraid my brakes are going to fail me again!!! i hope that doesn't happen with the children on board! i have maintained this vehicle meticulously and serviced it at every hyundai required interval. this vehicle has never been involved in an accident and has been garage kept. i'm very disappointed that this brake issue has seriously depreciated the value of my 2009 hyundai genesis! *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 66500 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 SteeringHyundai Genesis 2009 Steering Review #10622186 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 25, 2013.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . i missed my right hand turn that i usually make to exit my community, so i stopped and put the vehicle in reverse using the backup camera as a guide. i noticed that i was getting too close to the sidewalk curbing and i noticed a large tree not to far from the curbing, so i turned my body around to my right side to get a visual look. while i was doing this i put my foot on the break pedal,turned my body back to a normal driving position and the brake pedal went right to the floor never stopping the vehicle.the steering wheel suddenly moved to the right and then i heard a large sound ( the rear end of the vehicle crashing into the tree that i saw.) all of this that happened took about seven to ten seconds!! i released my seat belt and got of the car to see the damage. the rear end of the bumper on the passenger side was severely damaged, the quarter panel on the same side was blown out and the top of the trunk toward the right side was actually ripped and dented. ironically i had an appointed with the dealership to check the brakes the same day of the accident. i was determined to find out why the brakes failed. so i drove the vehicle knowing i had no brakes and miraculously made it to the dealership. the service personal saw how badly the vehicle was damaged and i explained to them what had happened.one of the girls in service department, i don't remember her name, completed the paper work and i was told i had to leave the vehicle.she also told me that there would no charge for any repairs because thats how hyundai treats their customers thats' when old light bulb went off and i asked her if there were any recalls on vehicle and she said no. the next day i saw the repair form and that brake fluid was replaced twice and failed twice.he noticed that the auto antilock braking system module failed. he replaced that brakes o.k. i received back injury,under doctors care..Vehicle was involved in a crash. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 34264 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Service BrakesHyundai Genesis 2009 Service Brakes Review #10633711 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 16, 2014.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . in july 2014, i visited my local hyundai dealership to take care of a recall notice that i had received and they promptly took care of two recalls, one of which was campaign 114 - replacing brake fluid and inspecting the hydraulic ecu (hecu). the recall has to do with the old fluid corroding portions of the hecu and causing brake failure. well to that point, i had not had any brake failures or problems, but it was within a week of the inspection i applied the brakes very hard to stop and avoid hitting a car on the highway, the brakes worked fine, but upon hitting the brakes a second time, the pedal went all the way to floor before any braking was applied to the wheels. it stayed that way for the remainder of my trip (some 10-15 more miles) i attempted to pump the brakes and even stopped at a local gas station and turned the car off and on again to see if it remedied the problem, it did not. when i returned home, i began to look into what would cause this, and that is when found out that campaign 114 was in play to actually attempt to prevent this type of disaster. the next day i drove a different vehicle to work and when i returned home (still the month of july 2014) i tried the brakes on the hyundai again and they seemed to work fine. i cautiously drove the car and didn't have another failure until today, when i was on the highway and applied the brakes harder than usual, the very next braking event my pedal again went all the way to the floor. i assume that whenever a hard braking event occurs these symptoms return. i made it to work and spent 4-5 hours there and left early to the dealer told them the story and said they are working fine right now since the car was off and on again, and while they are still investigating this, they told me already that the hecu is checking out ok. this is dangerous and needs to be recalled..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 64000 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Unknown Or OtherHyundai Genesis 2009 Unknown Or Other Review #10660822 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Nov 10, 2013.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . i am filing another complaint to record this critical design issue based on all the recent cover-ups by the automotive industry. on nov 10th,2013 my vehicle was hit in the rear while traveling approximately 25 mph by another vehicle at a speed slightly faster then my vehicle. when the vehicle hit us, the headrests deployed moving our heads forward but the seat belts did not restrain both the driver and the passenger. the driver sustained head trauma as a result. i contacted hyundai motors about this serious condition and after many letters they said that the vehicle met all the test data in a collision. what they didn't say is that there isn't a test for rear collisions required by the nhtsb. there is an issue with the design of the headrests and the function of the seatbelt restraining capability. this can only be proven by either a rear collision resulting in serious injury or death or conducting a rear end collision at a slow speed by both vehicles. hyundai did inspect the vehicle and the seatbelts ( measured them ; only inspection that could be made). do we need to see another death resulting in the nhtsb and the auto industry avoiding testing to save money or ignore a safety problem. .Vehicle was involved in a crash. 1 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 50000 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Exterior LightingHyundai Genesis 2009 Exterior Lighting Review #10663184 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 21, 2014.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . in july ,2014 , i was told by another driver that the stop lights were not functioning; i immediately took the vehicle to my local mechanic after my hyundai dealer told me that it was not covered under my warranty. it was corrected the next day after my car was left until fixed. i was just notified by nhtsa that a recall ( campaign # 14v713) was just issued for faulty stoplight problem. i called my local hyundai dealer to see about re-imbursement and was told that there wasn't a recall issued yet for this problem and was given the # for customer care. i just got off the phone with hyundai motor america and was told that the recall was being worked on ( campaign 125) and that i would be receiving a letter in the future. i asked if that would be in days,weeks , months or years ,he said he did not know. remember the brake fluid recall ! now here we go again...........a safety issue but not a serious issue for hyundai. you would think that an immediate notification would go out to each dealer so every vehicle that they service could be brought to the dealer for immediate corrective action. this could prevent a future rear collision and possible injury/ death. is this yet another industry stone walling of a" safety issue " ie key switch and air bag. hopefully a fellow genesis owner will not have a serious rear end collision in the near future. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 79000 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Service BrakesHyundai Genesis 2009 Service Brakes Review #10664202 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 01, 2014.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . the brake pedal, when applied, traveled well beyond the normal point of stopping, almost to the floor. braking effectiveness and results were greatly diminished and the pedal was extremely "spongy"/not firm as normal. in an emergency stopping situation, the car simply could not have stopped in time to avoid collision. this was not an intermittent occurrence. once the symptom manifested itself, it has done do consistently. the car has been delivered to the humble tx hyundai dealership which has identified the hecu component as the problem, and not the master cylinder. unfortunately the service writer has not recognized the recall action required for this component..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 63000 miles. Hyundai Genesis 2009 Electronic Stability ControlHyundai Genesis 2009 Electronic Stability Control Review #10676155 HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009 car safety problem was reported on Jan 04, 2015.HYUNDAI GENESIS 2009, manufactured by Hyundai Motor America had a problem with ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL . while traveling on the highway, the brake pedal went nearly to the floor before the car began to decelerate. it was clear that the car could only slow moderately regardless of how hard i pressed the brake pedal, and there was no brake engagement at the top of the pedal travel. at home, i took photos of the pedal displacement relative to the firewall and can provide them. photo 1 shows the state of the pedal when i arrived home. imagine the amount of pedal force you might use while parallel parking or slowing for an off ramp on the highway. with that amount of force, the pedal was within ~2" of the firewall. pumping the brake pedal led to increased "feel" and restoring brake effectiveness. photo 2 shows a larger gap to the firewall after 5 pedal repetitions, and with increased force applied. photo 3 shows an even larger gap after ~20 pedal repetitions and even higher force applied. the final photo shows that at maximum force, i could only get the pedal to ~3" from the firewall. this was similar to the state that the vehicle was in this morning, and felt "normal" in terms of pedal effort and travel. to reiterate: during the failure, the pedal would push to within 2" of the firewall with minimal effort, and with little braking effectiveness. i could not have performed a panic braking maneuver in this state, and only continued to drive due to the lack of traffic and proximity to my home. after subsequent pedal cycling in my driveway, i could only get the pedal to more than 3" from the firewall with maximum effort, and the base braking function appeared to be normal. to date, the dealer has been unable to reproduce the problem and thus unable to gain authorization from hma to perform any repair. i consider the car undriveable. this vehicle was already serviced for the hecu/brake fluid recall. hecu passed the screening at that time..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 41000 miles. I also own and drive a Hyundai. thanks Bill Finn I had a problem with stability control in a 2010 AWD hyundai Tuscon in windy conditions. I was driving on a straight stretch of road in New Mexico and with gusts of wind the car tilted onto the 2 right wheels. I was so shaken I pulled off the 2010 Santa Fe Limited alternator failed within 2000 km of new. Are there any service bulletins out on this? I have a 2006 Sonata 2.4 which frequently fails to start on first attempt and appears to be getting more frequent. In addition the fule consumption averages about 13 l/100km. Low revs are sometimes uneven and 1st gear pull off shudder is frequentl hyundai 3500 generator ,no gas going to sparkplug sounds like clutch, i believe you need to change it!
