PURCHASED BRAND NEW 2008 HYUNDAI ELANTRA JUNE 5, 2008. SINCE PURCHASING THE CAR IT BROKE DOWN WITHIN 30 DAYS WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMING ON AND THE ENGINE LOSING POWER. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED THE OXYGEN SENSOR AND PART OF THE EXHAUST BECAUSE THE SENSOR WAS SEIZED UP INSIDE IT. WITHIN 2 DAYS OF GETTING THE CAR BACK THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN AND THE CAR LOST POWER AND THE ENGINE WAS ROUGH. THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED WAS IN HEAVY TRAFFIC AND DURING A LEFT HAND TURN INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC. FORTUNATELY, THE ENGINE REGAINED POWER AND I WAS ABLE TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. THE DEALERSHIP NOW PLANS TO REPLACE THE FUEL PUMP. HOWEVER, IT IS ON BACKORDER AND WE WILL PROBABLY BE WITHOUT THE CAR A TOTAL OF AT LEAST 30 DAYS OR MORE DUE TO THESE REPAIRS. WE HAVE CONTACTED AN ATTORNEY BECAUSE WE NO LONGER HAVE TRUST IN THE SAFETY OF THE VEHICLE ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WILL BE USED TO TRANSPORT OUR 4 MONTH OLD TO DAY CARE EVERY DAY. I PURCHASED A 2003 HYUNDAI SANTA FE 09/2007 WITH 78K MI. IN MAY 2009 I TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP FOR OIL CHANGE & ASKED THEM TO CHECK IT OUT BEFORE I WENT ON A ROAD TRIP. I WASN'T HAVING ANY PROBLEMS, JUST WANTED TO BE SURE EVERYTHING WAS OK. SERVICE TECH RECOMMENDED TRANSMISSION FLUSH, REPLACEMENT OF TIMING BELT, & REPLACEMENT OF CRANK SENSOR. I AGREED TO RECOMMENDATIONS BECAUSE I WANT TO DRIVE A SAFE & RELIABLE VEHICLE. SINCE MAY I HAVE RETURNED TO SERVICE DEPT. AT LEAST 4 TIMES BECAUSE THE VEHICLE NOW STALLS WHILE I'M DRIVING, NO WARNING, JUST QUITS. IT STARTS BACK UP AFTER A FEW MINUTES. THESE EVENTS ARE INTERMITTENT. THE FAILURES HAVE OCCURRED AT SPEEDS BETWEEN 15 & 55 MPH, WHILE A/C ON, OUTDOOR TEMP 80+ & HUMID. SOMETIMES FAILURE OCCURS WHILE ACCELERATING FROM A STOP, OTHER TIMES AT HIGHER SPEED ON HWY. SERVICE TECH HAS BEEN UNABLE TO DUPLICATE OR GET A READ ON THE PROBLEM. HE HAS EVEN DRIVEN THE VEHICLE HOME & BACK (60 MI) AT LEAST TWICE, STATING HE HAD NO PROBLEMS. EACH VISIT I AM TOLD "NO PROBLEM FOUND" YET FAILURES PERSIST. HYUNDAI USA HAS ADVISED ME IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN, HAVE IT TOWED TO DEALERSHIP SO THEY MAY DIAGNOSE/DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM. THE PERSON I SPOKE TO AT HYUNDAI USA SEEMED VERY FAMILIAR WITH THIS ISSUE. TO ME, THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. SO FAR I'VE BEEN LUCKY TO AVOID AN ACCIDENT. DO SANTA FE DRIVERS HAVE TO BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED BEFORE HYUNDAI MAKES THIS ISSUE A PRIORITY? I HAVE READ MANY SIMILAR COMPLAINTS ONLINE, SOME DATING BACK TO LATE 2003. ALMOST ALL MENTION BEING TOLD ITS A PROBLEM WITH CRANK SENSOR OR RELATED COMPONENTS. ALSO, HYUNDAI APPARENTLY DID RECALL 2001 & 2002 MODELS WITH THE SAME OR SIMILAR PROBLEMS. MY VEHICLE DIDN'T STALL UNTIL THE CRANK SENSOR WAS REPLACED, COULD BE A COINCIDENCE, BUT I DON'T THINK SO. BESIDES THE SAFETY ISSUE, THIS IS A FINANCIAL RIP-OFF. $90/HR LABOR ADDS UP QUICKLY. HYUNDAI KEEPS PROFITING FROM A DEFECT THEY SEEM TO BE AWARE OF, YET REFUSE TO CORRECT. *TR.Hyundai 92101-0a000 9999 problem was reported in MINT HILL, NC. Vehicle was not using Cruise Control. I HAVE A 2007 HYUNDAI SONATA THAT HAS A STUCK CALIPER FOR THE SECOND TIME IN 14 MONTHS. THE FIRST TIME THEY CHANGED BOTH REAR CALIPERS UNDER WARRANTY AS THE CAR HAD JUST UNDER 36K MILES. YESTERDAY, AT 55K MILES, I DISCOVERED WHEN HAVING MY OIL CHANGED THAT THE REAR CALIPER ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE IS STUCK AGAIN. I HEARD A LITTLE SQUEAKING THIS LAST WEEK AND THOUGHT I WOULD HAVE MY BREAKS CHECKED. TO MY SURPRISE, MECHANICS AT MR. TIRE TOLD ME THE RIGHT PAD IS HARDLY WORN, BUT THE LEFT REAR PAD IS ALMOST COMPLETELY GONE AND HAS AFFECTED THE ROTOR SLIGHTLY. I AM THE OWNER OF A 2004 HYUNDAI ACCENT. THERE IS A SMALL HOOK THAT HAS BECOME DETACHED FROM UNDERNEATH THE FLOORMAT ON THE DRIVER'S SIDE. THERE IS A SMALL HOLE IN THE FLOORMAT THAT IS SUPPOSED TO KEEP THE FLOORMAT IN PLACE. BECAUSE THE SMALL HOOK HAS BECOME DETACHED THE SMALL HOLE IN THE FLOORMAT SLIDES OF THE HOOK THEREBY CAUSING THE FLOORMAT TO MOVE FORWARD. I HAVE NOT EXPERIENCED ANY UNINTENDED ACCELERATION, BUT I THINK THIS COULD BECOME A PROBLEM. OBVIOUSLY THIS IS AN ONGOING PROBLEM W/THIS VEHICLE - I'VE OWNED STANDARDS ALL MY LIFE, MAZDA 189K ON ORIGINAL CLUTCH AND DATSUN 110K ON ORIGINAL CLUTCH - HAVE NEVER HAD TO REPLACE A CLUTCH. DEALER RETURNED VEHICLE W/O REPLACING CRANKSHAFT. 15 MONTHS LATER THE SAME BOLT FAILED. TOOK TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, THEY EXPLAINED THE CRANKSHAFT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. TOOK BACK TO THE DEALER, THEY REPLACED BOLT AND DIDN'T REPLACE CRANKSHAFT. ON 9/13/10 THE BOLT FAILED AGAIN, INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP, AND A DIFFERENT DEALER VERIFIED THE NEED FOR CRANKSHAFT TO BE REPLACE. AFTER HAVING A SERVICE ON MY 2010 HYUNDAI TUCSON, 2 DAYS LATER THE ESC INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE DBC INDICATOR LIGHT CAME ON, AND THE SHIFTER WAS HARD TO PUT INTO GEAR. TOOK IT IN AND THEY CHANGED THE SHIFTER. ABOUT 2 WEEKS LATER THE SAME TWO LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME WHEN YOU PRESSED ON THE GAS THE RPM WOULD SHOOT UP BUT THE CAR WOULDN'T MOVE, AND THE BRAKES WERE LOCKED. THE CAR WAS TOWED AND THE MAP SENSOR WAS CHANGED. WHEN I WAS TOLD THE CAR WAS FIXED I CAME IN TO TEST DRIVE THE CAR AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON. I DID NOT TAKE THE CAR. THE NEXT DAY THE CAR WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME AND THE LIGHT WAS OFF. 2 WEEKS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM HAPPENED AGAIN. I WAS TOLD THAT THE BRAKES NEEDED TO BE BLED, AFTER A FEW DAYS THE CAR WAS GIVEN BACK TO ME. 4 WEEKS LATER THE SAME PROBLEM OCCURRED AGAIN, AND THE CAR WAS TOWED, ANOTHER PART WAS CHANGED AGAIN. I KNOW THAT THE SHOP I AM WORKING WITH IS TRYING THEIR BEST TO FIX THE PROBLEM, BUT THE CAR IS SCARY TO DRIVE. AT ANY TIME THE ESC AND DBC LIGHT WILL COME ON, AND THE BRAKES WILL LOCK, AND WHEN YOU PRESS THE GAS THE RMP WILL SHOOT UP AND THE CAR WON'T MOVE.
