Honda Odyssey 1996 Service Brakes, Hydraulic AntilockHonda Odyssey 1996 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Antilock Review #710828 HONDA ODYSSEY 1996 car safety problem was reported on Aug 26, 1999.HONDA ODYSSEY 1996, manufactured by HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.) had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC:ANTILOCK . i believe that the dealership i bought this vehicle from didn't do a thorough inspection of the vehicle. in august 1998, the abs light came on. i had it checked and the diagnosis was that the anti lock brake accumulator was bad. the total cost for the repair was $435. in february 1999, a front oil seal gasket blew. repair cost were $320. now, august 1999, the abs light came on again. the diagnosis is the accumulator needs to be replace again. it has been almost 1 year to the date that the previous one was replaced. i took the vehicle to sunbelt honda in lake city this time for the problem to be evaluated. not only do they say the accumulator is bad but that the modulator may be the cause for the accumulator going bad. estimated cost is $500-$2000. honda corporation (sean theus) customer service has said that honda will absorb some of the cost but that i will have to pay probably at least half of the bill. i feel this particular vehicle is a lemon, but unfortunately, i have found no laws to protect used car buyers against lemons. i need help because my husband and i are making a $380 van payment on top of these costly repairs. if you cannot be of help to us, please direct us to someone who might be able to. sincerely, lisa richardson.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JHMRA1860TC. Honda Odyssey 1996 Engine And Engine Cooling EngineHonda Odyssey 1996 Engine And Engine Cooling Engine Review #721198 HONDA ODYSSEY 1996 car safety problem was reported on Nov 06, 1999.HONDA ODYSSEY 1996, manufactured by HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.) had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:ENGINE . the counter balance shaft seal on the engine "popped out". this drained all of the engine oil out of the crankcase. in researching this on the nhtsa web site i have seen a lot of honda accords with the same problem (same 4 cylinder engine). when i called the local honda dealer over the phone with the symptoms he correctly diagnosed the problem (they fixed the popped out seal, belts, labor etc) over the phone as he had seen this several times. he goes so far as to recommend that this $5 seal be changed on a routine maintenance checkup. this was a catastrophic failure and this could have been much worse in property damage and personal injury damage. the counterbalance shaft was added to stabilize the four cylinder vibration but the fix is much more of a problem. this engine is not a good design. i tried to get honda to answer how often this should occur as i know that some failures will occur. they would not let me talk with an engineer and i merely talked with a customer service rep. they do not feel like this is a problem but from what i can find on the net it is happening much more than honda will admit. please follow up with honda on this for me. thanks. *ak.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):JHMRA186XTC. (vin#: jhmra1863tc009117) on march 11, 2003 we drove it with some friends to a neighborhood restaurant where we parked and locked the car, and went in. about 15 minutes later a man came into the restaurant saying there was a car on fire in the parking lot. the driver's side door of my honda was on fire. fortunately, the restaurant owner had a fire extinguisher, and we were able to get the door open and put out the fire. the fire appears to have started in the electrical wiring within the interior of the driver's door. as a result of the fire, the plastic power window switch assembly was melted, rendering the windows inoperative, the plastic door latch mechanism that enables the door to be opened from the inside was also melted and inoperable. this rendered the driver's door inoperative from the inside. the fire filled the car with smoke from the burning door panel and insulation, the wire insulation, and various plastic parts of the door assembly. i'm sure the smoke was quite toxic, and had someone been in the car at the time of the fire, they would have likely been overcome. particularly if they were in the drivers seat and unable to open the door or the window to let the smoke out or exit the car. to answer a potential question, we do not smoke, and do not allow smoking in the car. i realize this is beyond the warranty period for this vehicle, and that the failure of some electrical part of the door could be due to the age of the vehicle, and normal deterioration of mechanical parts with age. my concern is that though some part of the electrical system failed catastrophically, the design of the electrical system was such that it did not fail safely. a fuse or circuit breaker should have been the protective device that failed, protecting the wiring and the occupants of the car from a potentially very hazardous, and possibly fatal fire. *nlm.Vehicle was on fire. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 75000 miles. Honda Odyssey 1996 Electrical System Ignition Switch Review #10183074 HONDA ODYSSEY 1996 car safety problem was reported on Jan 03, 2007.HONDA ODYSSEY 1996, manufactured by HONDA (AMERICAN HONDA MOTOR CO.) had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:IGNITION:SWITCH . in the past 2 months my 1996 honda odyssey died numerous times while stationary and 3 times while driving, including 2 incidents on the highway at high speed in rush hour traffic on a busy highway. i was able to recognize the power failure and react quickly enough to get off the road and avoid being rammed into by other vehicles, but it was a frightening and dangerous situation. after the first episode on the highway, i took it to my local mechanic, who suspected either a fuel line problem or ignition switch problem, but given that the vehicle was not dead, they could not identify the problem with certainty. on january 3, 2007 the car died while driving on the highway, and i had the vehicle towed back to my local mechanic. they were able to determine that the problem was a faulty ignition switch. it is clear from searching online about this problem that this year and model has had many reported problems of this nature. there are also numerous bulletins about this problem for the 1996 honda odyssey. there is a report of a recall for faulty ignition switches by honda of over 484,000 vehicles in japan and china for models including my vehicle model and year. http://www.themoneytimes.com/articles/20060615/honda_recalls_484_626_cars_to_fix_faulty_ignition_switch-id-10585.html i had no help from multiple calls to honda customer service on jan. 3, 2007. they tell me there is no recall on my specific vin and that there is nothing further i can do other than file the report with nhtsa. thank you for your attention to this matter. note that i called nhtsa twice to report this and was instructed to leave my name and phone # which i have done. *jb updated 04/13/07.*jb.Mileage was 140788 miles. My 94 GL 1500 sends off a vibration when you let off the gas...traveling at 80-90 +mph or so it will rumble until you slow to about 60 mph ....a little scary, it makes me think its going to lock up...I had a previous 94 gl that did the same thing my 2003 Honda Accord started with replacing power steering pump then power steering hose{recall} now I have a leaking power steering rack seems all connected to me should be a recall for the rack also? Is it possbile for wheel cyclinder to be leaking after only 20,000 miles on a 2003 Civic Honda? 2005 Honda CRV - Front struts noisy over small bumps in road Since new problems have included pull to the right, grinding noise from rear diff, crack in windhshield all across the bottom of the glass from side to side no chipping just a long horizontal crack just above the dash line. Front struts make a hug the check engine light is staying on on my cbr1000rr 06. do you have to adjust the valves and fuel when you remove baffles from a 1995 honda 750 magna????
