GMC SIERRA 2500 2006 car safety problem was reported on Jan 13, 2010.GMC SIERRA 2500 2006, manufactured by GENERAL MOTORS CORP. had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . 2006 gmc sierra hd 2500 - 4x4 crew cab slt - while parked in our driveway and with keys out of the ignition, the air bag deployed. we called the dealership ferguson pontiac gmc and we were told that it was not possible and out of warranty. we had our mechanic tow it in. they hooked up the computer to see if a sensor had tripped the air bag and the rug started to smoke. they removed the melted mat to the rug and found the wiring harness was melted away. bottom side of the rug was burnt. we went to gmc in person with pictures and asked how this could happened and were told "it can happen at anytime with sand and moisture around the wiring harness". we were told this could have also happened while driving the vehicle. we want this truck fixed and assured that it will not happen again. this could have caused a forest fire, a horrible accident, and or death. no one seems to care. we have several gmc vehicles and are concerned if the other ones will do the same. we are not satisfied with their complete disregard for our safety and did not want to even look at it. we have pictures if you would like us to email them to you. this is out of the normal realm of "warranty" and believe it is gm's responibility to fix this and make sure it doesn't happen again. also the public needs to know that this "can happen at anytime". this was quoted from [xxx]the service manager at ferguson ponitac gmc. GMC SIERRA 2500 2006 car safety problem was reported on May 05, 2006.GMC SIERRA 2500 2006, manufactured by General Motors LLC had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . brakes fade near the end of a braking cycle. no warning lights displayed even though brake pedal felt like it had increased travel or mushiness. cause; excessive and premature corrosion and pitting of all four original equipment brake rotors. also, excessive corrosion of brake sensors and brake calipers necessitates an extensive repair. original brake pads are in good condition repairs needed; replacement of rotors, sensor, calipers and brake pads. bolts seized by corrosion broke on removal of brake components and this resulted in replacement of sensor and all calipers. the cost of the repair was $2100.00. my opinion; poor quality metals in original factory rotors caused a significant brake failure on this vehicle which caused braking safety issues and an expensive repair. this is a safety issue because; poor braking occurs and the high cost of repair will mean some owners of this vehicle will put off repairs and continue operating this vehicle with damaged brake systems. i think this vehicle should be recalled because this is a safety issue and the manufacturer should take at least some responsibility to repair this model. the 2500 (3/4 ton) series that i own is mostly used by contractors and others who pull or haul heavy loads. so, the brakes really do need to work. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 60000 miles.
