FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Mar 24, 2013.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . while on a trip to new buffalo, michigan, my 2008 ford fusion began to sputter and limp (as if it were running out of gas). the vehicle continued to shake violently, as i pulled over to the side of the road. i then turned off the car and waited a few minutes. when i turned it on again, the car seemed to have miraculously recovered. as i pulled out onto the highway, however, the engine light started flashing and the car began to whine and sputter. since it was late on a sunday night and there were no repair shops open, i was forced to park the car at a nearby parking lot and was later picked up by a relative of mine, who drove nearly 200 miles to get me back home. the following day, my insurance company towed the car to a local auto shop where i spoke with a mechanic and service representative. to my dismay, both gentlemen relayed that this was a common occurrence with ford fusions, and that the technician, himself had repaired 8-12 such issues in the last year. he also mentioned that there were several tsbs (technical service bulletins) related to this issue, due to a faulty design in the pcm and injection coils which caused them to short to one another. i asked if there had been a recall or if customers were forced to pay to replace these flawed parts. he kindly explained that recalls are for safety issues,�and that if we wanted the car fixed, we would need to pay for new parts. as the service representative provided me with a quote for the repair cost, a princely sum of $3,010.00, my reaction resembled that of an individual watching a rather terrible horror movie. i could not help but feel aggrieved as a large portion of the cost (nearly $2,200.00) was attributed to the faulty parts that needed to be replaced. note, a similar complaint was also filed on feb 06, 2012, by an individual in st marys, pa. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 96242 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Mar 24, 2013.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE . while on a trip to new buffalo, michigan, my 2008 ford fusion began to sputter and limp (as if it were running out of gas). the vehicle continued to shake violently, as i pulled over to the side of the road. i then turned off the car and waited a few minutes. when i turned it on again, the car seemed to have miraculously recovered. as i pulled out onto the highway, however, the engine light started flashing and the car began to whine and sputter. since it was late on a sunday night and there were no repair shops open, i was forced to park the car at a nearby parking lot and was later picked up by a relative of mine, who drove nearly 200 miles to get me back home. the following day, my insurance company towed the car to a local auto shop where i spoke with a mechanic and service representative. to my dismay, both gentlemen relayed that this was a common occurrence with ford fusions, and that the technician, himself had repaired 8-12 such issues in the last year. he also mentioned that there were several tsbs (technical service bulletins) related to this issue, due to a faulty design in the pcm and injection coils which caused them to short to one another. i asked if there had been a recall or if customers were forced to pay to replace these flawed parts. he kindly explained that recalls are for safety issues,�and that if we wanted the car fixed, we would need to pay for new parts. as the service representative provided me with a quote for the repair cost, a princely sum of $3,010.00, my reaction resembled that of an individual watching a rather terrible horror movie. i could not help but feel aggrieved as a large portion of the cost (nearly $2,200.00) was attributed to the faulty parts that needed to be replaced. note, a similar complaint was also filed on feb 06, 2012, by an individual in st marys, pa. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 96242 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Dec 01, 2013.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . i started my car and it sounded & seemed normal. however, after driving less than 2 miles, my engine suddenly decelerated and the rpms dropped dramatically. i tried to accelerate and it would not increase speed. i was able to get off the road safely. i had to have my car towed. the mechanic determined that the problem was due to a faulty power train control module which impacts the ignition coils and the estimated cost of repair is $2100! one of my ignition coils was melted. ford has issued a technical service bulletin on this issue, however, they do not deem this a safety issue! cars that just stop running or decelerate quickly is most definitely a safety issue. i can think of many scenarios where this issue would cause injury or perhaps even death. had i been on a freeway or driving at a greater speed where there was more traffic, i could certainly have ended up in an accident with another vehicle. i researched this concern and found that i am not alone and there have many others affected by the same exact situation. ford is of the opinion that this should be the responsibility of the car owner and they do not hold themselves accountable. i understand how warranties work and i realize that cars age. however, this issue has nothing to do with wear and tear or age. this is a faulty piece of equipment that is causing a safety issue when it hampers a vehicle's ability to continue in a forward motion at a normal rate of speed. any help you can provide on this issue would be appreciated. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 75000 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on May 13, 2014.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY:DOOR . my wife parked her 2008 ford fusion in our garage and as she tried to exit the vehicle the inside left driver's door handle would not open the door. she tried to open the door several times and almost panicked. she was trapped inside. fortunately her car is equipped with a microsoft sync system and she was able to call me inside the house from the garage. i came to her and was unable to open the door from the outside because the driver's door lock did not automatically disengage when she shut the key off. she rolled down the window and i reached inside to test the inner door handle and lock. the lock was stuck and the handle just moved freely back and forth as i pulled on it. finally, after wiggling the inner lock back and forth many times i was able to disengage the door lock. i then could open the door by using the outside drivers door handle. she got out of the vehicle and i proceeded to examine the door mechanism. i removed the cover plate and saw that the plastic actuator arm on the inner end of the door handle had broken in two and part of it had gotten caught up in the locking mechanism. so i came inside and searched on-line to buy a new replacement handle. during my search i discovered that people all across the united states are claiming that this seems to be a common problem with several different years of ford fusions. fortunately for my wife she wasn't involved in a major accident and couldn't get out of the vehicle when the malfunction occurred but i believe it's just a matter of time before something tragic happens as a result of this potentially defective part. i feel that even thought the vehicle has high mileage this part should never fail. this actuator arm is just a very, very, thin piece of plastic and i suspect that all four inner door handles of the ford fusion are of the same design. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 101000 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Feb 12, 2014.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . traveled from ct to marathon, fl, arriving after noon. within sight of the hotel destination the engine began to break down and run rough. i also smelled smoke. i managed to get to the hotel parking lot before the engine quit altogether. a local shop diagnosed the problem as two cylinder misfires and failed ignition coils. 57 mi from the dealer in key west and over 100 mi from miami, i elected to have a local ase certified shop replace the coils. reflashing the pcm showed a new set of codes and that the pcm was failed and needed to be replaced. according to machado ford in miami, there were no pcms in ford's inventory in all of the us. searched for remanufactured pcms was fruitless as well. finally contacted armstrong ford in homestead and they said they could fix the car. $996.56 to the shop in big pine key. transported the car to homestead on fri 2/21. monday the dealer had located a pcm and replacement was completed under warranty tuesday afternoon. i picked up the car on wednesday and left for jacksonville in the afternoon. 120 mi north in jupitor, the engine failed again. we sat on the side of the fl turnpike's 70 mph traffic until we could have the car transported to mullinax ford in west palm, arriving after the service dept had closed. the next day i learned that all three catalytic converters were plugged and needed replacement. two converters were available and were replaced on 2/28. the third converter was back ordered with an expected availability of 3/31. since the remaining unit had discharged its contents into the tailpipe and was discarded, i was able to drive back to ct. tasca ford in berlin ct is still waiting for the replacement converter after numerous extensions of delivery dates from ford. the ford customer serv rep refused to return my calls. my total out of pocket expenses exceed $4000 to date. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 60971 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Sept 02, 2014.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . this problem has happened to me twice already. the first time, the abs brakes engaged after driving over some water on the highway. the brake pedal got soft, went down almost to the floor, and did not reset itself. i was afraid to drive with the decreased braking power. i called a ford dealer and they said they had never heard of this problem, although i could hear some snickering in the background. i told them i found forum after forum online of other fusion owners complaining of the very same thing. they could only offer an appointment in 2.5 weeks to take a look at it. i called an independent garage and a mechanic looked at it the same day, checked a few things and added some brake fluid to the master cylinder (mc). the braking power returned. he said i would need a new mc if it happened again. a few weeks later it happened again. the abs brakes engaged after i braked to avoid a car making a surprise turn in front of me. the brake pedal went to the floor and became soft. it felt like i had no braking power at all. i had to press the brake pedal extremely hard in order to slow down or stop. i got off the highway and kept pumping the brake pedal repeatedly to get it to reset. after a few attempts, it reset itself to its normal position. i took the car to a ford dealer a few days later. they could get the abs to engage, but could not recreate the problem with the brake pedal going to the floor. they did not know what to do, and could only offer a $2000 "fix" they would not guarantee. i did not take them up on their offer, and they did not believe changing the master cylinder would correct the problem. the problem could occur again any time the abs is activated. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 85400 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on June 07, 2013.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . 1st incident - braking, entering exit ramp - hit pot hole. brakes went soft. had to push to floor in order to slow the car. brakes continued to be soft on drive. very unsafe. when destination was reached i turned the car on and off three times while pumping the brakes (while off and while on). after letting the car set for a while the brakes reset. 2nd incident - snowy, icey. going less than 40 mph braking for stop sign. abs engaged, brakes when soft and couldn't get car slowed. drove for 2 miles and pulled off. turned car on and off twice while pumping brakes (while off and while on). could not get brakes to reset. drove home and have it off to see if more time all allow it to reset. both incidents i was nearly in very bad accidents. this is not safe at all and there are countless complaints on various blogs online regarding '06, '07 and especially '08 ford fusions with the same issue..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 135000 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Nov 13, 2013.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . 2008 fusion se-v6 awd model (fwd + it has a drive shaft that goes to the rear wheels for awd). several miles before i brought it in for service for the below problem the car began making a howling/whirring noise at the rear of the engine only when the car was in motion which got louder as the speed increased. imy ford dealer told me the noise was because of a bad driveshaft and it should be replaced asap as driving it the way it is a safety issue. my car had just come out the manufacturer's 60,000 mile warranty and i was not pleased to learn that i would have to pay $1103.35 for the repair. the dealer tried to get ford to ok the repair under my just expired warranty. if the shaft suddenly failed, it could cause control problems so it is a safety issue particularly at highway speeds. after much research i found that ford was well aware of the problem and even issued an internal technical service bulletin # tsb 08-14-1 stating that the oem driveshafts on the 2008 ford fusion awd models were not "keyed" correctly when manufactured and over a period of time will eventually fail and dislodge from the vehicle. a revised shaft was manufactured and should be used to replace defective shafts. ford knew of the potentially part failure but rather than notify the owners or have a safety recall, they chose to keep it "in-house" and only fix it when the owners reported it. since the most failures seemed to occur near the 60,000 mile point (mine was just over that), ford chose to adopt a "wait and see" attitude on this problem/safety issue. since the shaft repair one year ago, i have written to the district ford representative and the chairman of the board of ford, alan mulally about how this was handled but to no avail. i am shocked and dismayed that ford would treat its customers this way (i own 3 fords) and the way they handled this potentially dangerous safety issue..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 68895 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Nov 29, 2014.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE . i was on the on ramp for the highway and accelerated to enter ahead of upcoming tractor trailer. i entered the highway and the engine completely shut down on me. i managed to get into the breakdown lane before being hit by the oncoming tractor trailer. i turned off ignition and waited a few minutes before attempting to start car again. it did start and i drove home. vehicle seemed fine the next few days except for an incident where car was off, no keys in it, but bell kept going off when i opened the door. had two more instances where car stalled when first started in morning, thought it was just cold. five days after first incident it happened again. i started car and it stalled several times. when i stepped on gas it felt odd, like it wasn't getting the gas. i proceeded to put in drive, got a third of a mile from home and the exact same thing occurred. i was driving down the street and the car just completely shut down while i was going approximately 25 mph. would not start for about 15 minutes but once started i was able to get back home. happened two more times and i am terrified i will be badly hurt or hurt someone else by causing an accident. no warning just a complete engine shut down. now after all instances the check engine light has come on..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 130000 miles. FORD FUSION 2008 car safety problem was reported on Oct 06, 2012.FORD FUSION 2008, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . on three occasions, 10/6/12, 6/23/14, and 1/3/15 our ford fusion 2008 has experienced an issue with braking. in all three occurrences the problem has identical or nearly identical. they occurred following an anti-lock braking system activation at speeds between 25 and 40mph. the first two were in dry weather when braking while going over a pothole and the third was while driving on snow covered pavement. after the abs activated, the brake pedal lost almost all pressure and would go to the floor before braking would initiate. braking distance was substantially increased immediately. in both of the first two cases, the car was taking in for diagnosis and repair, however the issue was not able to be replicated. in both of the first two cases, the problem seemed to resolve itself within a few days. i am concerned with the increasing frequency as well as the number of similar complaints that are very similar to my experience and i urge additional investigation to prevent damage to property or loss of life..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 40000 miles.
