FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on June 03, 2006.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VISIBILITY:REARVIEW MIRRORS/DEVICES:EXTERIOR . on 3 june, 2006, my daughter, while driving our 2006 ford pickup, met another vehicle on a narrow country road. the steep dropoff and nature of the road did not allow either driver to completely move over enough and the mirrors of the two trucks bumped. the mirror on the other truck, a chevrolet, broke away causing no injury to the driver and minimal damage to the vehicle. the mirror on my daughter's 2006 ford exploded sending shards of glass flying throughout the cab of the truck. my daughter required a trip to the emergency room, stitches, and follow up medical treatment. in addition to the flying glass, the mirror housing separated and one large section struck my daughter in the shoulder before coming to rest in the back seat of the extended cab truck while a smaller section of the housing landed in the truck's bed. both vehicles were traveling at about 30 mph and were slowing when they met. the chevrolet mirror detached with no injury and minimal damage. the ford mirror caused physical injury and over a $1000 in damages to the truck. there is obviously a vast difference in the design of the ford and chevy mirrors which caused this dangerous situation and harmed the ford's driver. pictures, medical records, and a statement were sent to ford but they refuse to acknowledge any problem with the design and refuse to make any comment on this situation. they have also refused to return the documents and pictures which i have submitted. we own 2005 and 2006 ford trucks and are now afraid to drive them with the windows open for fear of injury from possible flying glass in the event of an accident. *nm.1 person(s) were injured. FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on June 22, 2008.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with STEERING . i bought my truck used with 20k miles on it in 2007 and did not have any problems with the front end shaking and the steering wheel shaking violently till about 37k when i took it to the local ford dealership to get it checked out. my truck steering wheel and front end starts shaking at about 40 mph and gets real bad at about 55 mph and really bad slowing down in that same range. any time i've had repairs done by the dealership the repairs done to my truck on the invoices state the dealership verified complaint and then how they fixed the problem but when i took my truck in for this problem my invoice reads my complaint and then "no repair attempted". they said they could not duplicate the problem so they did not repair anything but according to the invoice they did not even look at it because it doesn't say they even tried to verify my complaint it just says " no repair attempted". so each mile i have put on the truck till now the problem has been getting worse. before the steering wheel would shake after hitting a bump in the road or pot hole but now it does it just driving just about everytime it gets to 40 mph and definitely around 50-55 mph. sometimes it shakes to where i can slow down and it goes away and other times it shakes so bad i have to stop and how safe is that on interstate with my wife and 2 daughters. i've had a couple auto shops look at my truck and they said i needed new tires and an alignment. so i needed them anyway so i took it and got all "6"(dually)new tires put on and an alignment and they said everything else was tight and good in the front end but i still have the problem. i took it to another shop and had the front end checked and they said everything was good and tight. my truck now has 48k so i called my ford dealership again and they said they would have to get it in and do a long step-by-step list of procedures and checks to verify the problem but it will cost cause my truck is out of warranty now. i have not taken it in yet. $$$$$$$ *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 37000 miles. FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on Jan 11, 2009.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SUSPENSION . i have a 2006 ford f350 crewcab superduty that has a shimmy / vibration in cab of truck which happens when i hit a dip or bump and if i slow down sometimes it goes away quickly when i slow down and sometimes i have slow down below 30mph. how safe is that on an interstate? i did receive a letter from ford saying this common but i disagree because this is my third superduty and the last two i did not experience this problem but they had diesel engines this is gas. my dealership told ford customer rep that i need a road worthy test or the drive shaft is out of balance so they are guessing too. the dealership did not even know about this letter that ford sent to superduty owners. ford rep stated there is no recall on this vehicle. the service manager at the local dealership believes the problem is because a gas engine is too light and the superdutys were made for diesel engines. i have no idea how true this is but my first two superduty trucks i had were diesel and i did not experience this. i have drafted up a letter to send to nys attorney general and to ford but i am not very confident about the end results. my warranty has run out and now it is on my nickel. i even put new e rated tires on the truck in december and has been at the dealership twice which they said the tires were out of balance and needed to be rotated. i have less than 3,000 miles on these tires so that did not make any sense. as of this date the tires have been balanced a total of three times which absolutely no sense either. i am going to get a second opinion from my mechanic that i have been using for over 20 years which is not a ford dealership to see if the problem can be resolved since i am not getting much help from ford or the dealership. this shimmy / vibration does get me nervous at times and do not feel i am very safe in keeping this big pickup under control and i do not exceed the speed limit more than 5 mph. i have been a ford person for over thirty years and now i may have to change. *tr.Mileage was 31000 miles. FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on Jan 10, 2010.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:EXHAUST SYSTEM . on 2006 ford f350 vehicle with 6.0 diesel , the egr coolers have defect that cause them to leak. after reading into this it is a common issue. i took the truck to ford and they stated it is a very common problem and that i should look into an aftermarket cooler since the oem unit fails quite often to the frequency of 2 to 3 within 100,000 miles. this repair is approx. 1000 to 2000 depending on if the head gaskets have been subsequently damaged as well. in my case i had to replace the oil cooler along with egr cooler an egr valve and head gasket. my total bill was $2095.63 ford stated it is a very common problem and has tsb,s on this but has no plans for a voluntary recall. they did state that they will only compensate if instructed to due to a recall. these issues if researched online are more common then people needing any other parts on this vehicle. when these coolers fail the egr get wet and does not function. this can happen at highway speeds with can make you loose power thus loosing hydroboost for braking and steering. *tr.Mileage was 160000 miles. FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on Dec 01, 2011.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SUSPENSION . the initial occurrence in december 2011 was a steering stick in the direction of the turn and required force to turn opposite the direction of the turn. the problem ceased and did not reoccur until mid-may of 2012. the problem manifested itself as a severe oscillation of the vehicle steering accompanied by directional sticking and "indexing" in the steering. the first attempt at repair was to flush the power steering system. this actually resulted in a worse oscillation. the problem was still intermittent but occurring more frequently. the dealer was unable to duplicate the problem and i asked for the steering gear to be replaced. this did not solve the problem. the next step was to replace the steering damper. this also did not result in elimination of the problem. during the damper replacement it was noted that there existed a very small amount of play in the dragling ball joint. while not particular out of the acceptable range we agreed to replace the drag link. the drag link has been replaced and the vehicle continues to demonstrate a "walking" motion requiring the operator to actively steer the vehicle to remain in a lane. in addition, the vehicle will demonstrate relatively good stability in a sweeping turn until the wheel is displaced beyond roughly 5 degrees at which point the steering displays an active pull in the direction of the turn. the vehicle is being returned to the dealer for continued evaluation. the ford technicians have examined and passed the power steering pump, the hydroslave system, front tires, front tire pressure, front ball joints as well as the front axle u-joints. at this point, they have no further suggestions as to the cause of the problem. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 100000 miles. FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on May 30, 2013.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . was driving my 2006 f350 sd lariat dually with only 7,858 miles, hauling a gooseneck trailer with a horse inside and steering started to shimmy once i got up to highway speed (55 mph) on i-85n enroute to a horse show. placed my foot on the brake and got no response. i could not stop the 15,000# of truck, trailer and horse but was able to get off the road and cruise into a large empty parking lot and slow down enough where i could safely apply the emergency brake without going through the windshield or injuring my horse. tires were fine but there was a distinctive smell of burning pad against red hot metal and tremendous smoke was billowing out from behind the passenger side right front wheel where the rotor is seated. brake caliper seized onto the rotor, warping it and destroying the brake pad. post police escort, had it towed to the dealership and $2,400 later (which included new batteries and 2 new front tires), all the offending items were replaced. i specifically asked that the rear calipers and brake mechanism be checked and they assured me they did and nothing was wrong. however, coming directly home from the dealership, my driver side rear wheel brake seized with the same exact problem. again, had to be towed to the dealership and another $1,600 later (this amount includes 4 more tires), replacing everything having to do with the rear brakes. in my research on this matter, i have discovered that this is not an isolated but a common problem possibly due to faulty hcu (hydraulic control unit) equipment. could have easily been a tragic accident on a very busy interstate. this is most definitely a safety issue. a fire also could have easily started as the brake fluid pumped back into the main engine area of the truck. though i have replaced both front and rear brakes there is no assurance that this danger will not recur. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 7858 miles. FORD F-350 SD 2006 car safety problem was reported on Feb 04, 2014.FORD F-350 SD 2006, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . this year along with other years have a problem with the egr valve and turbo. i understand that there was a deal where ford had to repair emergency vehicles with this same problem but not a normal everyday consumer. there are many complaints regarding this engine blowing head gaskets and egr valve issues which makes the truck suddenly have lose of power when driving along with other issues as smoking and engine lights going on. as you can read on line everyone that has had this problem is really frustrated and ford will not stand behind this engine. the diesel truck should not have this problem at 79000 miles. this is why we have purchased this vehicle. i would think a decision had been made to put this engine in trucks knowing that there was an issue would stand behind it. i guess not enough people have been killed yet or seriously hurt. just because ford will not be reimbursed for the repairs they will not stand behind this problem after the warranty runs out. which it has with us. i feel that something should be done. we have pulled a 15,000 lbs boat behind this truck and it could suddenly lost power and could have killed someone. has my husband was driving it on a busy highway it suddenly lost power and starting smoking. someone could have been seriously hurt but i guess because no one was and no one has been killed because of this problem no one will pay to repair. it is sad that our tax dollars help dig this car makers out of debt but they won't stand behind their workmanship. why doesn't the safety board make ford repair this issue. many people are really frustrated and would like ford to repair. it is not the consumers fault there was a bad engine. 2006 is not the only year. this is a large safety issue when you are driving and suddenly lose power on your vehicle at least i would think so. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 79000 miles.
