FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Dec 08, 2012.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . as i was turning left at a light, my power steering went out completely in the car. i looked down at the instrument panel and it was bright yellow and said advance trac failure. it was very difficult for me to control the suv and it took every ounce of upper body strength in me to pull into a parking lot. i barely avoided a head on collision with another suv as i turned into the lot. i pulled into the back of the lot and put the suv in park and turned it off. upon turning it back on the power steering was working again. i was very shook up since i had my 6 year old daughter with me as well. i hope someone looks into what is causing this to happen. my brand new car is at the local ford dealership and when i dropped it off this morning i was told that they have never heard of such a thing happening to anyone. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1200 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Dec 06, 2011.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . within a week of purchasing my new vehicle, i started to encounter a stalling issue when backing vehicle. when i put the vehicle in reverse and shift into drive while still rolling, the vehicle stalls. i have several other ford vehicles and this does not happen with any of them. i even have a 2012 ford focus that this does not occur with. this happens almost everytime. when i go from park to reverse and back out of a parking spot. if vehicle does not come to a complete stop, when i shift into drive, the vehicle stalls. after spending two days at the dealership, i was told there is nothing wrong with this vehicle. the dealership also took out a few new vehicles on their lot and they were able to reproduce this on the vehicles on their lot. i feel this is a huge danger to anyone who has a vehicle that does this. the dealership stated that they had been in contact with the engineers at ford and that this is a normal reaction on this vehicle. i asked for this in writing, they have yet to provide me with a written explanation. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 800 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Exterior Lighting

Ford Explorer 2013 Exterior Lighting Review #10499536

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Dec 20, 2012.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . vehicle purchased late november 2012,late december 2012 auto highbeams started working erratically or not at all, outside air temp when this issue started was about 50degrees, ford claims that adverse weather conditions will decrease this operation, such as fog, dirty windshield, snow or other obstructions to the camera that operates the system. understandable, but windshield clear no obstructions, you can see on coming traffic 3/4 to a mile away or further, lites fail to dim or go back to highbeam mode automatically. ford now claims after installing a new camera that the outside air temp is to cold for the system to work, yet when a ford mechanic test drove the vehicle at fords request he found the system, didn't operate, would work for 2 or 3 times as supposed to, that then quit working this was at 20 degree outside temp. in driving the car 20 to 30 miles the system would operate and the stop working at will. ford cannot furnish or claims they don't know what the operating temp range of the system is. at no time during these failures was there any obstructions to the camera, weather was clear and visibility was excellent. the vehicle has been into the dealership 3-4 times and still not fixed, the suggestion from ford is that i wait for the weather to warm up and see what happens. nothing in the literature states anything about temperature, only adverse conditions or camera obstruction . i can not believe i am the only person in north america that has this problem. this is an expensive option, i have spoken to other owners with vehicles equipped with this option, and they had not had any problems. to this date i do not believe temp is the problem as it has worked in temperatures below zero at will. any information or assistance would be appreciated. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 500 miles. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):1PM5KBF89DG. Ford Explorer 2013 problem was reported in FENNIMORE, WI. Vehicle was not using ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. Vehicle was not using Cruise Control. Ford Explorer 2013 Engine Review #10502773

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Mar 04, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE . i drove my recently acquired and new ford explorer sport for first time on the highway on march 4, 2013. when accelerating to pass a truck, i lost control of front end to point of swirling and near collision with the truck. i don't consider this a fluke as same happened a while later during same highway trip. i'm very familiar with high horsepower passenger vehicles and sports cars for that matter. i am also very familiar with higher and allowable speeds having driven and handled sport cars and passenger vehicles on german autobahns while living in europe. it is my experience and belief that the combination of characteristics (weight balancing in combination with significant horsepower, possibly large tire size, traction and four wheel/front wheel drive aspects, thrust etc.) make this vehicle, the ford explorer sport, extremely dangerous on highway while accelerating at allowable speeds. a local dealerships' expert (read: dealer is an independent contractor) in indiana confirmed my observations and beliefs and used term "squirlyness" to describe vehicles' handling when accelerating at highway speeds. ford indicates that vehicle operates as designed, i content the design is bad, causing this ford explorer sport version to be very dangerous. in my mind it is entirely foreseeable that accidents will happen to unsuspecting drivers of this vehicle based on the vehicle characteristics. obviously this is something that will not be admitted to by ford due to pre-emptive liability assumption in case of accidents. i offered ford to take this new vehicle back. once again i understand that they would not as this would imply admittance of safety concerns regarding the ford explorer sport version. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 600 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Fuel System, Gasoline Review #10519297

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on May 17, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . from my ford explorer limited (with 5000 lbs factory installed tow package), there was a high smell of gasoline after fueling vehicle. odor did not diminish. i brought the vehicle to ma dealership, (5-17-13), where mechanics determined that gas tank was leaking. parts not easily available. gas tank and fuel pump had to be replaced. i spoke with ford ne regional mgr, [xxx], and requested an upgrade to my warranty from 5yr to 7yr. she said, "ford does not pay for pain and suffering," after i said that this was a serious fire safety hazard. she told me that nothing happened so it can't be considered. no upgrade allowed! and she also told me that "parts break, and have to be fixed.!" after 11 consecutive days at the dealership, the car was fixed by 5-28-2013. the myfordsync system has been a nightmare. it has been serviced 10+ times since purchase in 9-2013. complete failure to work has happened. blank screen, no backup cameras. very expensive vehicle. i spoke with the dealership manager about a warranty upgrade, but he has not responded to my questions, even though he said that he, "has never seen this gas tank problem." this car has required more than 15 days of repair in the first seven months, and it is well under 15,000 miles. the current gas mileage is well under the sticker mpg of 26 highway. it is ranging from local of a best of 19 mpg to a best of (highway) 21mpg. towing it is 14 mpg to 15.4mpg. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 8706 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Fuel/propulsion System Review #10519880

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on June 06, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . there was gasoline leaking out of the fuel module into my garage when i went to get into the explorer to go to work. i also have a gas hot water heater in the garage beside where i park the explorer. i was not aware there was a recall on this until i got it to the dealership. the fumes were extremely strong. i opened the garage door and let the fumes dissipate and drove it to the dealership for repair where i found out no parts are available and won't be until possibly september. i was told that my vehicle is not drivable in its current condition. i am handicapped and have an electric chair carrier on the back of the explorer which i have to use to take my electric chair to work. now, i have no vehicle and have been home for over a week with no vehicle i can drive. i asked ford to swap my explorer for an identical one which was denied. they offered me a 15 passenger van to drive until my vehicle is repaired but i would have to pay the taxes on the rental cost daily until mine is repaired. i can't get a 15 passenger van in my driveway much less my garage! i need my vehicle repaired now or a new vehicle. i can't just drive anything due to my disabilities. in addition, it should not be my responsibility to pay taxes on a rental vehicle until mine is repaired as it is not my fault that ford's fuel modules are defective. i can't afford that cost in addition to my monthly car payment and gas costs. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 5780 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on May 28, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . my 2013 ford explorer has been at the dealership for 3 weeks now and still no replacement parts for the fuel pump. i have contacted ford directly 3 times and they can't give me an answer and have been in constant contact with the dealership and no one can tell me when this part will be ready. i have been given a rental but it is a chevy impala, not anywhere near the size of my explorer, and had to fight to get that as they only pay for a compact car. i have two young children and this is summer time and we are doing a lot of traveling that is very difficult without my explorer. it would be nice if someone could give me an answer about how much longer this is going to take. i am beyond frustrated and ready to ask ford for my money back so that i can buy a different vehicle but i assure you they won't do that. what is even more irritating is i am paying a monthly payment and insurance on a car i have been without for almost a month. someone needs to step up and get these parts out to the dealerships. i also did not know about this recall until reading an article about it. nice to know that i was never notified by ford!! *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 19500 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on May 29, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VISIBILITY:SUN ROOF ASSEMBLY . my panoramic sunroof exploded!! i was sitting in my vehicle, parked in the driveway and heard a loud noise. i got out and checked the tires and around my vehicle. i saw nothing unusual so i got back in, turned the air off and that's when i discovered it was the sunroof. i heard crackling of glass. got back out and stepped in the back passenger door and looked on top - it had cracked in the shape of an x with a small pop up right in the center. it was obvious that nothing had hit the glass because i was parked in my driveway and the glass was pushed upward instead of inward. i took numerous pictures of the vehicle sitting in my driveway right after this happened. drove it to the nearest dealership, within a half hour, as per the service mgr. for pre approval of warranty coverage. it was denied twice. ford's response for denial of warranty coverage : " as per section 3 of the warranty and policy manual, damaged glass (stone chips, scratches, etc.) is not considered a warrantable condition unless as related to another defective component. the loud noise as described by the customer has generally been found to be the time in which the glass is impacted in other similar cases. the point of impact to the glass is the place in which the glass is broken and bowed upward (bow upward due to interior cabin pressure is slightly greater than ambient pressure when windows are up and the hvac system is running.) unfortunately, this broken glass is considered to be damage that can not be covered under the new vehicle warranty at this time." 23 days later...my $40k vehicle is still damaged and sitting in my garage b/c this is an ongoing issue with these panoramic sunroofs exploding. ford can not keep up with the demand for replacement glass. i pray someone, especially a child is not injured or even worse killed by this defect. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 13300 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Power Train Review #10522364

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Jan 20, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . vehicle begins to vibrate and can not be driven over 35 mph during or after snow storms with wet heavy snow on road (sometimes caused by salting roadway). wheel well opening around all four tires are so small and enclosed, snow accumulates into solid ice around all four tires and both axles begin to vibrate violently. driver either stops every 8-10 miles along side busy highway to chop ice out (takes me 40 minutes for all four tire openings), slows highway traffic down to 30 mph, or goes to ford dealer. local dealer sees 6-10 of these vehicles a day and chops ice out at no charge and makes no work order history. traveling at only 35 mph when traffic is going 55 or 70 mph is dangerous. stopping every 8-15 minutes along busy highway to chop ice with back to passing traffic is dangerous. dealers do not inform potential buyers of the ice problem. ford has this design defect problem with more than one make of vehicle, knows about the complaints, but will not sponsor a solution. personally, along with clearing the ice on m-115 as i go to a doctor's appointment in traverse city, chopping ice hurts my bone on bone shoulders and the lower three vertebrae of my back that no longer have a disc between them. the slippery side of road is dangerous for my two artificial hips and is simply not safe to my person and slows down some passing vehicles that may slip and slide into me or oncoming traffic of the only 2 lane highway. northern michigan is getting unnecessarily more dangerous in the winter time. there have been multiple incidents and the incident date above is only approximate..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):1FM5K8D80DG. Ford Explorer 2013 Fuel System, Gasoline

Ford Explorer 2013 Fuel System, Gasoline Review #10522939

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Jan 23, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . i bought my explorer january 3, 2013. a few weeks later i began to smell gas fumes coming from the airconditioner vents when starting the ignition. it only lasted a few minutes before the fumes were no longer smelt. this continued to go on for months, randomly, whether the gas tank was full or empty, whether it was driven for miles or if it was starting for the first time that day. multiple passengers, including my daughter, have smelt the fumes and questioned whether it was safe. my mother and cousin both purchased an explorer as well & both immediately had the same problems. i called the salesman that i purchased it from and he advised that i have it looked at. shortly after, i learned about the mass recall that ford had placed on the explorers. i immediately took it to the service department (june 6, 2013) & was told that they couldn't find anything wrong with it according to the computer. i insisted that they take another look at it because this was happening too often & by this time my garage had started to smell like gas. the dealership decided to place me in a rental car & take a longer look it. i was told that next monday that ford would honor my complaints & have the parts replaced. this has yet to happen. i am currently still in a rental due to ford not wanting to replace my parts until they mass produce the faulty part. i was told that it will be this october before they consider replacing my part now. this explorer is dangerous due to the fumes and chance of explosion. it is also a fire/explosion hazard for me to have it parked at my house. my explorer remains useless at the dealership. my mom was told she shouldn't bring in her vehicle until october some time due to not having the part. this is 3 new explorers that are not covered under the recall and that are dangerous to my family and other families on the highways. i can only wonder if there are more. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1000 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on May 01, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . my wife brought our 2013 ford explorer into our dealership, early may 2013, in regards to smelling gas fumes outside the car and the service advisor at the time mentioned technical terms that made my wife believe that this was normal. later, i dropped off our 2013 ford explorer on june 13, 2013 (8am on thurs) at our dealership in regards to personally smelling gas fumes outside my wife's primary car. they took the vehicle in during our 2nd visit to investigate this gas odor and they confirmed it. the service advisor also mentioned a recall was issued for a fuel related issue (during 2nd visit) and we were not sure if this was related at the time. my concern are the following; why was this not taken care of during an earlier visit and i'm frustrated with the protocol our dealership followed for this potential safety hazard. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 18000 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Aug 12, 2012.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i took a 10-month rental on this vehicle in july/2012 thru enterprise/santa barbara, ca, where this incident took place. i: left the car curbside believing it was in park; crossed the sidewalk to greet a friend, left the driver door open; noticed the car rolling backward toward a car parked further down the curb; ran after the car; got into the 'v' between the driver seat and door; kept my left foot on the street - my right foot in the car to hit the brake; was unable as the momentum and door pushed me backward; "rode" the car backward with 2 hands in the interior door handle, holding myself off the road. the bottom of the door raked up the length of my left shin (scrapes and hematomas) and forced me to let go. landed on the street, left arm stuck under my back. i was pinned between the edge of the door and the asphalt as the car dragged me down the street. implored my friend to help. he gave chase as the door edge cut across my torso as it dragged me (tremendous pressure on chest and left shoulder?long bruise from right hip to left shoulder. he succeeded with difficulty as there was no power to the brakes. extreme pain for days, covered with external and internal bruises. mri revealed a rotator cuff tear in left shoulder. endured months of pain/loss of mobility while finishing project in california. returned home to connecticut, endured a difficult rotator cuff + labrum repair surgery. facing months of physical therapy and a long, hopefully successful recovery. this was the 2nd such incident with this vehicle, the first without trauma. lucky to come out of this as well as i did, i'm told the next in sequence would have been the tire running over my leg. i know others have been disabled + killed in such scenarios. please don't neglect this glaring problem. i urge the nhtsa to do everything in its power to remediate this giant leap backward in vehicular safety. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 1 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 2000 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Engine And Engine Cooling Review #10531802

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on July 24, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING . purchased vehicle in early 2013. while driving at various speeds noticed exhaust fumes coming from air vents. called my local ford dealership and they advised that it was normal to smell fumes because it was a new engine. now six months later, i continue to smell exhaust fumes through air vents while driving but it seems to be while at high rpm's over 3000. i researched the nhtsa website just to make sure i wasn't the only one and noticed that the following nhtsa id complaint numbers are also associated with exhaust fumes coming through air vents. they are #10522939, 10521718, 10511749, 10503135, 10472937, 10497684 and 10493493. it seems that there definitely is a problem with exhaust fumes entering the cabin while driving. i just received safety recall notice 13s04 for a possible fuel leak but i don't think that will stop smell from coming through the air vents. seems to be that some kind of seal or gasket is not operating as required to keep fumes from entering the cabin. i hope that ford gets serious about conducting some testing for a possible fix or recall. as others have complained, i try not to use my vehicle when transporting my family as they could be exposed to harmful exhaust fumes. this vehicle is not safe. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 200 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on July 24, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE . purchased vehicle in early 2013. while driving at various speeds noticed exhaust fumes coming from air vents. called my local ford dealership and they advised that it was normal to smell fumes because it was a new engine. now six months later, i continue to smell exhaust fumes through air vents while driving but it seems to be while at high rpm's over 3000. i researched the nhtsa website just to make sure i wasn't the only one and noticed that the following nhtsa id complaint numbers are also associated with exhaust fumes coming through air vents. they are #10522939, 10521718, 10511749, 10503135, 10472937, 10497684 and 10493493. it seems that there definitely is a problem with exhaust fumes entering the cabin while driving. i just received safety recall notice 13s04 for a possible fuel leak but i don't think that will stop smell from coming through the air vents. seems to be that some kind of seal or gasket is not operating as required to keep fumes from entering the cabin. i hope that ford gets serious about conducting some testing for a possible fix or recall. as others have complained, i try not to use my vehicle when transporting my family as they could be exposed to harmful exhaust fumes. this vehicle is not safe. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 200 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Engine Review #10532259

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on July 19, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE . on a night with light rain, after traveling 1.5 hrs with cruise control on, i pulled off interstate exit to make a phone call. i did not turn engine off. after call i proceeded to get back on interstate, while merging back onto interstate i accelerated hard to attain merging speed, when i merged safely in front of semi the engine shook violently and lost power. to avoid being hit, i jerked vehicle into emergency lane. the check engine light was flashing and the car placed in limp mode. i turned the vehicle completely of and restarted the engine and every thing appeared to have returned to normal. i later read that night that the f150 with same engine was having similar problems. i took the vehicle to ford the following monday. the service advisor informed me that ford has been having the same problem with my engine that is in the ford f150 in humid areas. he stated that large amounts of condensation forms in the intercooler when driving for long periods without utilizing turbo, then next time you accelerate hard the turbos suck all the condensation into the engine causing a misfire and puts engine into limp mode. after a week of them contacting ford engineers and running test, they told me they cannot repeat problem and the engine did not store any codes in the ecm from the problem. ford also told the dealer that i'm the only person with a 2013 explorer with the 3.5 ecoboost engine that has ever reported problem. since then i have read about two lawsuits which have been filed against ford involving the ecoboost engine and included the 2013 ford explorer sport. apparently this statement is not true. this is a very serious safety issue for me and my family. the ford company is apparently denying the issue exist, leaving me to drive a vehicle that can potentially put my family others with the same vehicle in harms way. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Aug 15, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL . i have a 2013 explorer sport which i purchased new from the dealer 2 months ago. on the morning of 8/15/2013 i was turning left into a parking lot after coming to a complete stop on a road, going less than 10mph. as i accelerated and turned my wheel left the power steering failed completely making it almost impossible to turn the wheel and the warning lights on the dash came on for the advancetrac and the stability control. i was able to steer the vehicle into a parking spot and put it in park. i turned the vehicle off, waited a minute or two and turned it back on without resolution of the symptoms. i looked up the warning lights in the owners manual and it said to have it serviced immediately. i had my explorer towed to the closest ford dealer. the dealership states that they have driven the vehicle over 100 miles in the past week and a half without those problems occurring again. i've read several articles about faulty epas systems, none from 2013 explorers yet. the ford engineers have told the dealership to return the vehicle to me and 'see if it happens again'. i asked the dealership to put another 200 miles or so on the vehicle to see if the problem occurs again while i seek information from ford. *js.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1859 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Oct 04, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . when accelerating, with engine rpms rising above 3500 rpm exhaust fumes begin to enter the cabin through the ac ducts. odor is present regardless of ventilation mode (recirculation or fresh-air). all attempts at repair, including official tsb bulletin published by the ford motor company (tsb 12-12-4) and inspection by field service engineer, by ford dealership service center personnel have failed. here is a part of a response from ford to my service technician on 10/10/2013 this concern is currently under investigation. when a resolution is available, the dealer will be notified with a tsb, ssm, fsa, or broadcast message." i think this problem exists in every ford explorer manufactured since 2011 to present but consumers either don⿿t know it is happening or they don⿿t know to take it to ford. others with the same complaint on this website: 2011-10545178, 10537052, 10485394, 2012- 10466807, 10458341, 2013 - 10548667, 10547404, 10545106, 10534074, 10531802, 10522939, 10511749, 10503135, 10497684, 10493493, 10472937, 2014 ⿿ 10536610 (so far). one case (10521718) even had to be taken to the hospital because of the carbon monoxide. page 206 of my owners manual states ⿿warning: if you smell exhaust fumes inside your vehicle, have this checked immediately. do not drive your vehicle if you smell exhaust fumes. carbon monoxide is present in exhaust fumes. take precautions to avoid its dangerous effects.⿝ ford won⿿t do the right thing and buy this vehicle back from me and because i bought the car certified preowned from ford, when it was only 6 months old and 16000 miles, i can⿿t lemon law the vehicle in fl. i have a dead vehicle that i can't drive because i won't risk mine or my family's health, so i'm at my wits end. *tr .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 20200 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Oct 04, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE . when accelerating, with engine rpms rising above 3500 rpm exhaust fumes begin to enter the cabin through the ac ducts. odor is present regardless of ventilation mode (recirculation or fresh-air). all attempts at repair, including official tsb bulletin published by the ford motor company (tsb 12-12-4) and inspection by field service engineer, by ford dealership service center personnel have failed. here is a part of a response from ford to my service technician on 10/10/2013 this concern is currently under investigation. when a resolution is available, the dealer will be notified with a tsb, ssm, fsa, or broadcast message." i think this problem exists in every ford explorer manufactured since 2011 to present but consumers either don⿿t know it is happening or they don⿿t know to take it to ford. others with the same complaint on this website: 2011-10545178, 10537052, 10485394, 2012- 10466807, 10458341, 2013 - 10548667, 10547404, 10545106, 10534074, 10531802, 10522939, 10511749, 10503135, 10497684, 10493493, 10472937, 2014 ⿿ 10536610 (so far). one case (10521718) even had to be taken to the hospital because of the carbon monoxide. page 206 of my owners manual states ⿿warning: if you smell exhaust fumes inside your vehicle, have this checked immediately. do not drive your vehicle if you smell exhaust fumes. carbon monoxide is present in exhaust fumes. take precautions to avoid its dangerous effects.⿝ ford won⿿t do the right thing and buy this vehicle back from me and because i bought the car certified preowned from ford, when it was only 6 months old and 16000 miles, i can⿿t lemon law the vehicle in fl. i have a dead vehicle that i can't drive because i won't risk mine or my family's health, so i'm at my wits end. *tr .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 20200 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Mar 01, 2013.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STRUCTURE:BODY . exhaust enters the vehicle cabin any time the engine is operated at higher rpms, such as climbing a long hill or traveling at highway speeds and passing other traffic. the problem appears to have been present since purchasing the vehicle (new), but we initially thought the odor was coming from surrounding vehicles. we shortly discovered that the exhaust odor occurred without the presence of any other traffic. the vehicle was taken to the ford dealer who contacted ford engineering for a fix. the "fix" didn't help. i contacted ford customer service and established a "case" in august, 2013, and was promised the problem would be taken care of. ford told us to operate the ventilation system in the recirculation mode until the problem was solved. this only amplified the odor because the exhaust still entered but was then trapped in the cabin. at ford's direction the car was taken back to the dealer where it sat for 3 weeks but was not touched. the dealer then called and asked us to come get the car because they didn't know how to fix it. since then, despite my continuing efforts, i have been repeatedly stalled and told "we're working on it". the odor is present year round but seems to be stronger in warmer weather. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 1000 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Apr 08, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . my 2013 ford explorer (limited) spontaneously locked while my 9 month old daughter was in the car with the keys. my wife had just put my daughter in the car with her purse, which had the vehicle keys inside. after she closed the door to walk to the driver's side, the vehicle locked, and would not open. all published vehicle owner's manuals/documentation clearly state that this should never happen. further, the vehicle has built in mechanisms to safeguard against this scenario which also failed. with the keys in the vicinity of the car, you should be able to touch the door handle to unlock the vehicle. nothing we tried would unlock the car. we live in a hot climate, so the car was well over 120 degrees. we called the fire department to break in (broken window, and door). after bringing this up with ford, they've done nothing to fix the problem. they claim it's not their fault, or responsibility to investigate further, and there is nothing they can do. i was lucky help was close by, however, under different circumstances, this could have been far more tragic. *js.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 5000 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on May 02, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . the first thing i noticed was that the car felt like it was sputtering and running roughly. when i came to a stop light, it ran really rough and just died. it started back up and i was able to drive it home. not knowing if the problem was just a fluke or not, i drove it the next day. after having gone about 8 miles, it did the same thing again. the engine runs rough and then just dies. it also happened to my husband as he left our neighborhood. it started to die on him but he put it in neutral and gave it gas. he took it to the local lincoln mercury (bayway) on gulf freeway in houston, tx. they kept it for almost 3 days, could not find anything wrong and one of the service managers drove it the last day and it never happened to him so problem was not found. today as i was traveling down the gulf freeway (i-45) service road i slowed down for a light, the car sputtered and died while sitting at the light. the car was hard to start up and i was able to get it going and trying to drive it to mcree ford where i bought it last summer. it stalled and i had to have it towed to dealership. last week when i was driving around in it, the whole a/c system turned off and it started blowing hot air. all the a/c lights had gone out. don't know if that was part of a problem or not. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 4800 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Sept 06, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ENGINE . i purchased a used 2013 ford explorer one week ago. when pulling out of my driveway, the vehicle began to shake really bad and would not accelerate. i had to coast into my neighbors driveway and through my yard. i turned off the vehicle. mind you, my husband experienced the same thing when he picked up the vehicle from the dealership but when he restarted the vehicle, everything seemed ok. thinking it was related to my husband's experience, i restarted the vehicle. everything seemed to be ok until i tried leaving out of my drive way. again, the vehicle shook really bad and would not accelerate. i again coasted into my neighbors driveway and this time the engine light came on. i immediately called the dealership and they had to tow it in to service. it is going on day 3 of the work week and they still have not looked at it. really not a good sign seeing as though we literally just bought the vehicle. i'm glad it happened leaving my driveway and not on the highway..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 34000 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on May 01, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . purchased 2013 ford explorer with around 33k miles on it. shortly after i had it i noticed gas odor in garage and dismissed it thinking it was lawn mower etc. then over a short time realized the odor must be coming from car and the odor was more evident after i fill up with gas. i looked on line to find out there is a recall on leaky fuel tanks and when i called ford was told my vin # isn't included in the recall. but, i smell gas! the odor was so strong this morning i was scared to start it, not knowing what would happen. i've only had this vehicle 5 months now, purchased used. today i have my car at a dealer/mechanic that confirmed the odor coming from gas tank, they will keep it overnight and check where the leak is coming from. i was told if its from "fuel pump" the manufacture warranty might cover costs if its from the "filler neck" it will not be covered. at this point i would love to get rid of this vehicle. we also had to buy a new ac only 3 months after i purchased the car...long story there too!!! costing me more $ than its worth and i will never buy a ford again!.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):1FM5K8D88DG. Ford Explorer 2013 Electrical System

Ford Explorer 2013 Electrical System Review #10639646

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Sept 23, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . i purchased my 2013 ford explorer two years ago. it has approximately 16,000 miles. on september 23, 2014 i couldn't start my car. i had the auto club jump the battery and then took it in immediately to my mechanic to replace the battery. upon examination, he determined that the positive battery terminal had excessive corrosion and the corrosion was so bad that the battery clamp had totally eroded. this required not only replacement of the battery but the battery cables. the mechanic explained that the entire cabling mechanism would cost approximately $400 and that the labor would be extensive because of the way ford engineered the connection. (the mechanic had to disassemble various components in the engine area to make the connection). the entire cost of replacing the battery was over $1,000. also, i was informed this is not under warranty. the mechanic also told me he became aware of others who had the same problem and in one case the battery exploded. thankfully that didn't happen in my case. i've had several explorers over the years as well as other makes and models and i have never had a battery that corroded to this extent and certainly not in a vehicle just 2 years old. i maintain my vehicle regularly and was shocked that this had occurred. i wonder if ford has designed this entire battery failure and configuration so as to create more repair business. while no injury occurred with me, it is perhaps just a matter of time before someone does encounter a dangerous situation. ..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 16000 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Sept 25, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . the problem has happened once in the past, i would guess about a year ago, and it happened twice on the 25th of september. when applying the brakes to stop the car, the brakes work but the car engine doesn't respond - that is the rpm of the engine remains constant and doesn't slow down. it forces the driver to use emergency measures such as applying great pressure on the brake pedal, using the hand brake and putting the car in neutral. i resumed driving and the problem did not manifest itself. i am weary of bringing the car to the ford dealership because they may not be able to duplicate the same problem (which is what happened today). have other people complained in the past about this issue?.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 20833 miles. Ford Explorer 2013 Suspension

Ford Explorer 2013 Suspension Review #10662612

FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Nov 26, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SUSPENSION . while driving on a highway, my steering began to feel tighter and tighter, with the wheel harder to turn. soon it began to require a "push" to make the movement of the wheel begin. i pulled off the highway and the dash alerts came on. one said, "service power steering now" and one indicated that the traction control function was off. the manual said i should shut off the engine and it would reset these. instead, the steering locked entirely. no dealers were still open the night before thanksgiving, so i took the vehicle to a shop i've used. they didn't have the computer hookups necessary so i towed it again to another shop. they "cleared" the codes, and found the vehicle did not misfunction again. they alerted me to the recall, ford's #14s06 this recall included explores made between may of 2010 and februaryl28, 2013. my explorer was made very soon thereafter, within days, in fact. given that timing and the facts that indicate that my vehicle suffered the same defects the recall addresses, i feel my vehicle repair should be covered by ford motor company. ford motor company and the local dealer advise me that since my vehicle is not within the parameters of the recall, there is nothing they can do for me. i hereby submit my petition for an nhtsa investigation into whether ford has met it's obligations in this matter. i hereby request the recall management division of the nhtsa to ensure that the scope of the recall [ford #14s06] is adequate. i feel the scope fell short, in my case, by a few days, leaving my vehicle dangerously unprotected. i cannot repair this defect myself. there is no diagnosis available for me. the defect may be in the sensor, or in the power steering control module, or in the steering "rack". the local ford dealer advises me that there are no "racks" available at this time anywhere. the nhtsa is my only hope..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 87158 miles. FORD EXPLORER 2013 car safety problem was reported on Nov 26, 2014.FORD EXPLORER 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . while driving on a highway, my steering began to feel tighter and tighter, with the wheel harder to turn. soon it began to require a "push" to make the movement of the wheel begin. i pulled off the highway and the dash alerts came on. one said, "service power steering now" and one indicated that the traction control function was off. the manual said i should shut off the engine and it would reset these. instead, the steering locked entirely. no dealers were still open the night before thanksgiving, so i took the vehicle to a shop i've used. they didn't have the computer hookups necessary so i towed it again to another shop. they "cleared" the codes, and found the vehicle did not misfunction again. they alerted me to the recall, ford's #14s06 this recall included explores made between may of 2010 and februaryl28, 2013. my explorer was made very soon thereafter, within days, in fact. given that timing and the facts that indicate that my vehicle suffered the same defects the recall addresses, i feel my vehicle repair should be covered by ford motor company. ford motor company and the local dealer advise me that since my vehicle is not within the parameters of the recall, there is nothing they can do for me. i hereby submit my petition for an nhtsa investigation into whether ford has met it's obligations in this matter. i hereby request the recall management division of the nhtsa to ensure that the scope of the recall [ford #14s06] is adequate. i feel the scope fell short, in my case, by a few days, leaving my vehicle dangerously unprotected. i cannot repair this defect myself. there is no diagnosis available for me. the defect may be in the sensor, or in the power steering control module, or in the steering "rack". the local ford dealer advises me that there are no "racks" available at this time anywhere. the nhtsa is my only hope..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 87158 miles. Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):1FM5K8B89DG. Ford Explorer 2013 problem was reported in FREDERICKSBURG,, VT. Vehicle was not using ANTI-LOCK BRAKES. Vehicle was not using Cruise Control.
