Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Engine And Engine CoolingFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Engine And Engine Cooling Review #10154170 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Mar 29, 2006.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING . this report is for the third occurrence (there have been 2 prior occurrences in the past 6-8 weeks). this vehicle has roughly 17,900 miles and keeps shutting itself down without much (if any) warning. this time, i had about 2-4 seconds warning (which would not be adequate if the vehicle had been on a highway or busy road). i was in a parking lot about to pull out into traffic when the yellow wrench light came on. before i could do anything, the vehicle shut itself off. at about 16,000 miles, the "high motor temperature" warning came on. i was able to get off the highway and get it towed. the dealership told me it was a bad electric water pump and replaced it. (i was later told by the dealer that the water pump that failed was a known problem at ford - apparently a truck carrying these was in an accident and boxes of these pumps literally fell out of the truck. ford supposedly tested them and decided to use them anyways). about a week later, i could tell there was still something wrong with the vehicle. (it had been "surging" forward when coming to a stop without warning and had many other noises/issues that were a sign that something was still wrong). i brought it back - and after they examined it they assured me that everything was fine. within 2 weeks, we were driving on the highway when the "high motor temperature" light came on again. my husband got off at the first exit and tried to get it to the ford dealership that was 2 blocks away. unfortunately, without warning, it powered itself down right in front of a city transit bus. this time, the dealer said it was the water pump and fuse again and replaced both. after getting the vehicle back, i was still concerned since this seemed to be a major safety issue (having it power down in front of a city bus is enough to scare the living daylights out of you). this is a major safety issue that needs to be addressed. *nm.Mileage was 16000 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Air Bags Frontal Sensor/control ModuleFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Air Bags Frontal Sensor/control Module Review #10168806 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Mar 07, 2005.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:SENSOR/CONTROL MODULE . i own a 2005 ford escape hybrid. when i bought it (brand new) i noticed an air bag issue where during driving, if the passenger made a slight sitting adjustment, the airbag would deactivate. sometimes it would not reactivate, or take a long time (5, 10 minutes). i told ford about it, and they replaced the airbags seat gel pad sensor. the symptom improved, but still happens. my fiance is 120lbs and she sits normally in her seat. if she makes a move to readjust (as one would on a road trip, or long drive) the airbag may still deactivate. initially it was frequent (75% of the time) however now it is 50/50 (since the replaced gel pad). however, it is troubling to know that when i am driving, sometimes my fiancee''s airbag is deactivated. we feel vulnerable that the safety items we purchased to protect us are not always there for us. i tried communicating with ford telling them it still persists, but they just don't "get it". i don't understand that when a passenger sits in the seat and the car knows it - how can the car deactivate that airbag while we are driving 60 mph? that seems like a design flaw - as obviously the passenger cannot exit the vehicle while the car is in motion, or even before the door opens. in my opinion, if the car senses a passenger when starting to move, then the airbag should stay on - at least until it stops moving (comes to a complete stop). so *motion* would be a check point and non-motion would be another point to *reevaluate* - but definitely not in the middle of freeway driving... i hope people appreciate the grandeur of the situation where the airbag purposely deactivates (from incorrect event programming) while driving. also, the below incident date is irrelevant. *jb.Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 problem was reported in TEMPLT CITY, CA. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Review #10350198 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on July 15, 2010.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . 2005 ford escape hybrid - the car would begin to skid and slide when approaching a stop regardless of the vehicle speed or road conditions. the abs would kick in and the indicator would come on telling the driver that the car was sliding. this is a dangerous condition as the car would not stop when the brakes are pressed. after investigating online, i discovered that this is a known problem with this make and model of hybrid vehicle. many other drivers have experienced the same thing. the suggestion was that the tone rings were cracked or broken. my repair shop discovered that both of mine were broken and one axle needed replaced. interestingly, when the mechanics took the car on a test drive to diagnose the problem, the car would rev beyond 4 rpms, then the engine quit and the dashboard readout stated to pull over and stop the car immediately. the gas engine quit and the car would not go over 20 mph. after turning the car off and waiting a few seconds, the car was restarted and the computer/car reset itself and would run again. the same thing happened on an open highway going 60 mph. the indicator lights went off and the warnings to pull over and stop the car immediately displayed. this is a known issue by ford as they have issued dtc c1526. this particular blog (http://blog.yagelski.com/2010/01/my-ford-escape-hybrid-brake-repair.html) explains the problem as well as those of many others who are also experiencing this issue, with greater detail and accuracy than i can. please do whatever you can to force ford to issue a recall on this incredible important and expensive safety matter. thank you. *tr.Mileage was 80000 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Engine And Engine CoolingFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Engine And Engine Cooling Review #10356905 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Aug 05, 2010.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING . while driving my 2005 ford escape hybrid the following occurred. i was stopped at an intersection and when i began making a left turn, an alarm sounded, a red wrench symbol, and red exclamation mark lit up on the dash. i immediately pulled to the curb and the car lost all power and steering locked up. the car restarted and i took it to ford. the service rep said the car went into a "fail safe mode" which it does to protect the hybrid battery from overheating. i was told that the alarm and symbols occur to give you about 5 minutes to safely get off the road. this did not happen. the car just lost power immediately. the ford dealership determined that a coolant pump for the hybrid battery needed to be replaced which was done. five weeks later the same thing happened again. i was stopped at a light and when i began turning right, the alarm sounded, the red wrench and exclamation light lit up and the car lost all power immediately. again, i was able to restart the engine so i took it back to ford to be looked at. they replaced a "suspect" cooling pump relay and road tested the car. the problem could not be duplicated. my concern is that this vehicle's "fail safe mode" makes the car completely shut down immediately. both times i was able to move into an emergency lane, but what would have happened if i was on a freeway and the car just stopped? i am concerned that other ford escape hybrids may have the same problem and it is a real safety hazard. the second time it happened my grandchildren were in the backseat and i could have been rear ended. after having the ford dealership look at it and replace the cooling pump relay i traded in the vehicle the next day. i would like to have this documented in case there is a pattern with these cars or other hybrids. i will never purchase one again. *tr.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):1FMCU95H55K. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Unknown Or OtherFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Unknown Or Other Review #10417102 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Aug 04, 2011.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . i took my 2005 ford escape hybrid to the dealer on aug. 4th/2011 for 30k maintenance at a cost of $715 + $100 coupon. immediately upon picking up the vehicle, i noticed an unusual sluggishness about it. i drive very little, so it took a few more days (8/4) for the car to break down. it was rush-hour traffic, and cars whizzed by me with kamikaze maneuvers in a psychotic urge to pass me, as my vehicle was only going a few mph. as the freeway began to rise, my car slowed down even more. i thought it was going to roll backward. i thought i was going to die and kill others. it was a nightmare. i had to feverishly pump the gas pedal to get it to the dealership. today (8/4/11) they called to tell me that the throttle body had gone bad. i looked it up online, and it's not a part that 'goes bad'...but it does require cleaning. unfortunately maintenance of the throttle body is not a part of ford's maintenance protocol. i read many other harrowing stories of people who had near misses because of throttle body malfunction. at least a couple of people even had wrecks. eventually someone is going to get killed. i didn't even know there was such a part in a car...i am not a mechanic, but if i pay hundreds of dollars for routine maintenance, i do expect a mechanic to take care of the problem! it was horrible and very frightening. i'm just glad that i didn't hurt anyone. ford needs to realize that this problem will eventually result in a fatality. i have complained to the ford motor co. complaint line, so hopefully they will listen to us. *tr.Mileage was 36860 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Service Brakes, Hydraulic Review #10427690 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Sept 25, 2011.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . the vehicle was parked and would not start. i received warnings on the dash and the information panel stating to slow to a stop and service the brakes. i was able to start the vehicle after disconnecting the battery and everything operated normally. after getting home and running diagnostics everything came back normal. later that day the vehicle would not start again with the same warnings and it was more and more difficult to get the vehicle working again. i also noticed that the 12v battery seemed to be leaking so i inspected and cleaned it. the next day (monday) i brought the vehicle to the ford dealer and explained the problems including the leaking battery. the dealer replaced the 12 v battery under warranty and said my problems should be fixed but they would check for fault codes. the dealer found additional problems with the abs brake system but could not immediately diagnose the cause. the car was left for another day and eventually i was told that it was most likely the hydraulic control unit (hcu) with was approximately a $4500 part. i have read stories online that this is a fairly common problem with this model year escape hybrid and ford is aware of the issue but not doing anything to correct it other than making the owners buy $4500 replacement parts. *tt.Mileage was 89640 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Electrical SystemFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Electrical System Review #10427690 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Sept 25, 2011.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . the vehicle was parked and would not start. i received warnings on the dash and the information panel stating to slow to a stop and service the brakes. i was able to start the vehicle after disconnecting the battery and everything operated normally. after getting home and running diagnostics everything came back normal. later that day the vehicle would not start again with the same warnings and it was more and more difficult to get the vehicle working again. i also noticed that the 12v battery seemed to be leaking so i inspected and cleaned it. the next day (monday) i brought the vehicle to the ford dealer and explained the problems including the leaking battery. the dealer replaced the 12 v battery under warranty and said my problems should be fixed but they would check for fault codes. the dealer found additional problems with the abs brake system but could not immediately diagnose the cause. the car was left for another day and eventually i was told that it was most likely the hydraulic control unit (hcu) with was approximately a $4500 part. i have read stories online that this is a fairly common problem with this model year escape hybrid and ford is aware of the issue but not doing anything to correct it other than making the owners buy $4500 replacement parts. *tt.Mileage was 89640 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Power TrainFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Power Train Review #10434863 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Sept 09, 2011.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with POWER TRAIN . there was a leak of some fluid noted in my driveway, and a request was made for the dealer to investigate during the next routine service. no leak was found. *tr at 110,000 miles, during routine service, a leak was noticed by the mechanic, but no source was found. some time after that, a noise began to develop in the front end. at 120,000 miles, the noise was severe, and an inspection determined that the ptu was failing. i was told that it was okay to drive until the part arrived. the noise got worse within a few hundred miles, changed to a vibration, and then an occasional clunking noise. i stopped driving the vehicle, awaiting the replacement part. i have since become aware of tsb 09-4-4 mar 09 drivetrain - fluid leak from ptu vent. i feel that this may have been the source of the reported leak, and that loss of fluid in the ptu led to the failure of the ptu, which only holds 12 ounces of fluid. this leakage should have been detected by the dealer, and the loss of my ptu might have been prevented. these ptus fail prematurely, and are consistently on back order. my dealer had another unit in for the same ptu replacement when i picked mine up after the repair, and acknowledges replacing many. ford should cover the cost of the replacement ptu, a simple mechanical device that should last longer than the car, certainly as long as other driveline components like the rear end, several hundred thousand miles. .Mileage was 121000 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Service Brakes Review #10478246 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Sept 15, 2012.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . i bought this 2005 ford escape hybrid from driver's world in virginia beach, va, and found serious problems with the brakes the minute i drove off the lot. immediately after the first stop sign leaving the used car dealership, i gently pressed the brakes to slow down and felt as though the abs was locking up preventing me from even slowing down. when i let off of the brakes and pressed them again, i was able to brake just fine. i figured it may have been a fluke, so i continued driving for 2 hours from virginia beach to midlothian. i stopped at a stop light in midlothian when the brake light and the abs light both came on at the same time, and the vehicle began to roll. i pressed the brakes as hard as i could and the vehicle stopped rolling. i continued to drive for 2 miles in this condition of having to press the brakes extremely hard to get the vehicle to slow down. when i arrived at my destination, i turned the car off and back on, and the problem had gone away. i took the car back to driver's world 36 hours later. driver's world kept the vehicle for two and a half weeks and claimed that they were unable to reproduce the problem. therefore, even though the vehicle is under their 30day/1000mile warranty they will not make any repairs or give a refund. i picked the vehicle up from driver's world, and at the first stop light i came to the brake light came on. i took it back to driver's world, and they were able to find error codes c1471 and c1472, but they did not know what they meant so they told me to take the vehicle to ford's service department. on the way to ford's service department there was one occasion when i pressed the brakes and felt again that the abs was locking up preventing me from even slowing down. i let off of the brake and pressed it again, and i stopped just fine. at this time ford still has the vehicle and is attempting to reproduce the problem. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 59698 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Fuel/propulsion SystemFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Fuel/propulsion System Review #10478740 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Dec 28, 2011.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . this vehicle will go into "fail-safe" mode, which shuts the ic engine off while you're driving at highway speeds. it happens very intermittently and not in any consistent pattern. once it happens, it continues to occur unless the car cools off completely. happens only when car is used for long trips. multiple fault codes show up on the computer, and based on those fault codes, i've had the hybrid coolant pump replaced, the air filter for the batteries replaced, and the fans that cool the battery replaced. i've had multiple trips to both ford dealership service and excellent independent mechanics (who were blocked on the ford technical website, even though these independent mechanics subscribe, from finishing their research into repair options) with the final results that they can't do anything to repair it. other than this problem, it's a very nice vehicle....... but, i'm very nervous that this shut-down will occur in fast, heavy traffic where i cannot get to the side of the road safely and cause a horrible accident and loss of life...... including my own or my family. i cannot keep this vehicle longer...... but, if i trade it off.... it's only going to be someone else's problem. this should have been a recall issue for ford. go online, and you can find many people with the same problem, several of which have had terrifying experiences with this problem. fortunately, most of my driving with this vehicle is on 2-lane state highways where i can pull off when this happens. in the middle of 80-mph la traffic on a 6 lane freeway..... in the middle lane...... i shudder to think. i bought this vehicle in december, 2011, and will be giving someone else the problem soon, as i cannot continue to spend money on a vehicle that no one is capable of fixing, and i cannot keep it with this problem. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 99800 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Service BrakesFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Service Brakes Review #10479876 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on July 29, 2012.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES . on several occasions, i was getting ready to stop and noticed that the brake pad "stuck." the pad wouldn't depress and i was unable to stop. after additional effort, i was able to get the vehicle to slow down and stop, but i was already at a reduced speed since i was coming to a stop. i thought my car mat had jammed my brakes, so i thought nothing of it until it happened again. i took my vehicle to the ford dealer where i made the purchase. they kept my vehicle for a week to "reproduce" the problem, which they did. i was then told that the parts alone would cost $3,000, but that the engineers at ford corporate suggested that the mechanics perform an electro-mechanical brake bleed, which seemed to fix the problem, but it did not. three weeks later, the brakes failed again. this time the dealership kept my vehicle for two weeks, but were unable to reproduce the failure. i was told that the only way to fix the problem was to completely replace the braking system. i actually called ford hq about this issue. the person with whom i spoke offered no real resolution, and she seemed unaware of things. ford is very aware of the problems with the hybrid braking system. this is a dangerous situation that is a design flaw--not a mechanical failure covered by a warranty. there is a difference, and ford needs to be held responsible. hybrids are very expensive, and therefore the manufacturers of these vehicles should be forced to take responsibility for design flaws that are as dangerous as brake failure. it's just a matter of time before my brakes fail and i end up in a terrible crash, either killing myself or someone else. even if i spent $7,000 on a new system, it's going to fail again because it has the same design flaw of the current braking system. this is why ford needs to redesign this braking system and recall affected vehicles before someone gets killed. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 43000 miles. Ford Escape Hybrid 2005 Power TrainFord Escape Hybrid 2005 Power Train Review #10649443 FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005 car safety problem was reported on Sept 03, 2014.FORD ESCAPE HYBRID 2005, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . early sept 2014 - began to experience intermittent issues of "limp home" mode. originally, issue began with small "surges" in acceleration that i believed were simply related to the hybrid engine kicking into gear. then experienced multiple but random "limp home mode" events, particularly when stopping at lights or accelerating (light-mod pressure) from a full stop. car would flash "service engine soon" and not go above 20mph and sometimes not that. would pull off if able, otherwise, would have to stop with flashers in the middle of the road, turn off the engine, wait a minute, and then restart (rebooting car). this would clear the check engine light and car would resume normal operation - of note: codes would not stay in the history of the computer. after several occurrences, managed to "limp home" to a mechanic while the light was on and pull codes between 2009-2012 and was advised to have the computer reprogrammed by ford service. car began limping home during full traffic and full acceleration (not stopped or slowing), causing a massive safety concern. noted multiple investigative mentions on internet regarding 2005-2012 etb issues, but also noted this was then only "replaced" for 2009-2012. apparently, anything older than 09 is a lost cause. 10/23/14 - have car in ford service and recall (14s19) has been noted regarding motor electronics coolant pump causing "a failure mode effects management strategy that can result in a sudden partial or full loss of motive power" to protect vehicle powertrain. being charged for diagnostic even though there is a recall on the part that is likely causing the problem..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 100000 miles. my 95 ford exploere engine surges when turn my air conditioner on Ihave a 1994 ford probe which has started to idle very low and stalls at times. It is a 4 cyl. w/ air and a 5 speed. any ideas? I replaced the fuel filter, air flow meter and added HEAT to gas tank to dry and clean fuel system. I think my pcv valv should a standard transmission truck start when it is in gear without the clucth engaged? should a 2005 standard transmission ford ranger start when in gear without the clutch engaged? 96 Ford F250 Emergency brake lever gets caught on the auto adjustment spring, causing brakes to be permanently engaged, also allowing the parking break lever to rub against the hub, which can cut through over time. try pushing the pedals button closer to you. you must have the pedal adjustment button to the left of the radio, looks like a foot, that brings the pedals more inward towards the driver. hope it helped. or look carefully if a wire has corroded. it i would check ur multi switch on ur stearing colum on the pedal whats the sound Just bought an '06 E-350 van. Left d'ship got on highway and noticed shimmy when I got to 60....same problem???? that happened to me last night! If you rock the car back and for while shifting then it should release the safety lock! why does it take turning off the veh. while pulling in on the shifter arm, them starting it again while still holding it inwards ever so slightly??
