FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Aug 08, 2012.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . purchased 2013 ford edge sport on july 14th. i've had possession of the car for three weeks as of this complaint. the car required service every single week since i've had the car. the last incident was on august 8th. i started the car, and multiple warning lights appeared on the dashboard. as the lights appeared, the car violently shuddered, and the brake pedal was stiff and difficult to press down. the steering column also shuddered, and the wheel was difficult to maneuver. this occurred at a supermarket parking lot less than three blocks away from my home. i called my husband, who remained on the phone line via speakerphone as i slowly coasted the car home. i drove the car, coasting the way back home with the hazard lights on, so as not to have to use the brake pedal. the car was towed to the dealership, where they replaced major sections of the steering column. the service manager informed us of this repair, saying that he's never seen such a major manufacturer defect in a brand new car. they made the repair, but i am very concerned that this may not be a unique situation. i am also concerned that because this make of car is so new, that other problems may be occurring that haven't been logged yet... *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 600 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Feb 28, 2013.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with EXTERIOR LIGHTING . we were involved in a four car crash. we were the third car. the traffic was a little heavy and stop and go. the two cars in front of us stopped fast and we did too. then we looked in the rear view mirror and saw a honda odyssey coming at us at about 35-40 mph. the driver slammed into the rear of our car. the car started on fire as soon as we were hit. i was in the passenger seat and i could see the flames and smoke coming out of the car. my husband jumped out of the car and i couldn't open my door. my husband then hit the unlock button on his side and then came around to the passenger side and got me out of the car. i was crying and terrified. a business man came from across the street and tried to put the fire out with a fire extinguisher. he had to return back to his business and our new car was still on fire. the police and fire department came and put out the fire. the car was then towed away. i went to the hospital. i was sore from where the seatbelt was and from being so badly jerked back and forth. i am still receiving some medical care. the driver of the honda odyssey was found at fault and issued a ticket. we have yet to find out why this car started on fire. no one at the ford dealership could or would answer that question. can you find the answer this question? is there a defect in this car? three older vehicles in this accident and the only car that starts on fire is our brand new 2013 ford edge with 5,000 miles on it. ford should step up to the plate and acknowledge there is a problem when a brand new car starts on fire. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Dec 24, 2013.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . we were returning home via i55 and i turned on the adaptive cruise control and the pre-collision system. three times in the space of an hour, without any vehicle in front of us, the vehicle brake itself. there was a tractor and trailer next to us and cars behind us on the two lane highway. after the third incident i turned off the pre-collision system but left the adaptive cruise control on. some time later with different vehicles, but the same types in the same relative positions, the car brake violently, the warning lights in the windshield were blinking and a siren was sounding and there was no one in front of us again. the attempted stop by the car was so violent it threw us forward. we have not driven the car since and it has been at the ford dealer waiting for a diagnosis and a part that may fix the issue. the edge has been at the dealer since the the 27th of december and no one has any idea as to when the "part" may be in. we took possession of the car on december 20th, 2014. i contacted ford asking for a buy back and am waiting to hear. both the dealership service manager and a ford field engineer experienced the same issues. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 600 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Aug 09, 2012.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with STEERING . purchased 2013 ford edge with 27600 miles on it, when taken in for first oil change at 30600 miles i noted power steering fluid level 1/2 inch below minimum mark and marked reservoir tank at this low level to track it, with oil change my local service station filled it up to1/2 way between max and min line in august 2012. after driving vehicle another 5000 miles noted fluid level again at minimum line, set up appt at local ford garage 2-3-14 and voiced my concern about a leak, and showed service manager level at min mark and explained i prior noted low level as indicated by previous line i marked to show how low fluid actually was and that i had it filled as mentioned above. on 2-3-14 appointment they checked vehicle for leak and said there was none. took vehicle in to my local service garage (not my local ford garage) on 2-12-14 with 35750 miles in it and they found leak of high pressure hose and possible leak of banjo fitting. will take in to ford garage again saturday 2-15-14 as had already set up appointment last week because have heard high pitch squeal on occasion when turn steering wheel left or right and wanted power steering checked again, with bumper to bumper warranty about to expire in 250 miles, wonder if i'll get the run around again or if they will see the leak now and service this vehicle right. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 30600 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Feb 15, 2014.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . arriving home the evening of february 15, 2014 my two sons (both adults) smelled something burning when we got out of the car at our house. upon inspection, they noticed the rubber cover over the positive post on the battery had melted slightly. i called the nearest ford dealer monday morning (2/17/14) to have them check it out. they discovered that the wrong circuit breaker assembly had been installed on the battery. and to make matters worse, the fuse was by-passed with the use of a large paper clip. talk about rigging something up!!! this paper clip had gotten so hot it even burned a hole in the top of the battery about the size of a quarter. i have a photo. this was only discovered when the new circuit breaker assembly was about to be installed. it was all hidden by the rubber cover. we did not think to inspect this upon purchase in july, 2013. it was a brand new car! this was a tragedy waiting to happen. fortunately it did not. but someone at either the manufacturer or the dealership rigged this instead of putting the proper part on it. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 5216 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Mar 17, 2013.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM . in view of all the cars being recalled for failure of what would appear to be relatively simple devices, it occurs to me that i should report this incident, in case there have been other reports of the same problem. while driving in light traffic on a four-lane divided city street in atlanta, ga, on 3/17/13, a sunday afternoon, without warning of any kind, the engine suddenly stopped. of course, i had no power or power steering, but fortunately i was able to get the car over to the shoulder safely (fortunately there was a shoulder). the ford emergency road service sent a tow truck, which towed the car to the nearest ford dealer. the next day the dealer's service dept. found that the fuel sender had become detached from the fuel pump. of course, without fuel, the engine stopped. they re-attached the sender, and i have had no further problem. everything was handled promptly and properly by ford. there was no charge, of course, as the vehicle was still under warranty. however, had this failure occurred just five minutes earlier, i was in the inside lane of a busy interstate highway (i-285) going 70 mph. i can't imagine how i would have been able to navigate the car to safety across four lanes of traffic with no power - or else stop in the inside lane i was in and pray i didn't get hit before the tow truck came. a simple solution to a potentially deadly problem. i doubt that any routine testing or maintenance would have revealed this potential detachment. it would appear that there is a potential flaw in the way these vitally important parts are attached. it seems to me that this potential bears investigation by the fhtsa. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Feb 14, 2013.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . headliner - the head liner in the ford edge limited has about an inch gap between the front windshield and the ceiling. the material is roughly cut and workmanship is extremely poor. i took it into the ford dealership that i use and they took pictures and ordered a new headliner, after 6 months of being backordered, the new headliner came in and was replaced and had the exact same issue. my ford service department did everything in their power to make it right and i would have to say it looks better but the material edges are still frayed all along the windshield and for the cost of the car i'd expect more. an extra 2" in material and a piece of foam rubber would allow the material to have a finished look and fill the gap at little extra cost and would make anyone noticing this much happier. i was given a loaner and noticed the same issue on the fusion titanium and when i spoke to my service rep he stated that it's pretty much like this on all cars and that they only address those that complain - he said not many people notice since the top of the windshield is black. i don't understand why it has to look so cheap and tacky. emails to ford have so far gone unanswered.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 4855 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on July 31, 2014.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . the door ajar sensor went on. when that goes on when backing up you can't see because the dome lights stays on causing a dangerous situation. it creates a glare making it hard to see what is behind you. the dome light will finally shut off when you go forward when a certain speed is meet. also when the dome light is on because of the sensor it will not lock the door. this sensor on my car was cleaned on 7/31/14 by a ford dealer. this only lasted about six month and i just had it the door latch replaced on 1/13/15 because of the same problem. recently i was stuck in traffic because a snow storm in which it took me 2-1/2 hours to get home. my typical commute home is 45 minutes. while i was in traffic 5:00 pm on 1/8/15 the door ajar sensor came on. the traffic was moving slow, my dome light came on and stayed on for over an hour which creating a glare while driving. it would never shut off because i never reached the forward speed fast enough to turn it off, also every time i let my foot off the break a bell would sound. i have spoken to our local ford dealer and they said they can't do anything about this until ford issues a recall. it is documented all over the internet that this is a common problem with ford edges. i feel that with the glare caused by the dome light staying on creates a hazard to both me and my family and ford should have the responsibility to do something about this. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 62889 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Nov 28, 2013.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with UNKNOWN OR OTHER . the system is showing a "door ajar" alarm, drivers front door. initially i thought it was just because i did not close the door enough so i just opened it, and pulled a little harder and the alarm went away. i drove the car for a few days and one morning when it was frosty i closed the door and the "door ajar" alarm posted again. i opened the door and closed it several times and the alarm went away. from this i thought the striker needed to be adjusted, i thought, "how is it possible that the door switch could have failed on a vehicle that is only 1.5 years old?". i drove the car for a few more days and at this point the alarm was posting about 50% of the time. around the beginning of december the alarm began posting all the time. now, it posts nearly 95% of the time with only a few times where it does not. the issue with this alarm is twofold: 1) it keeps the dome lights on because the system does not see that the door is closed when you get out of the car and lock it, thus the timer must time out (around 20 minutes) and the lights turn off. 2) this prevents the doors from being locked while driving. the last one is the one that i have a problem with because this, to me, is a safety concern. .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 36000 miles. FORD EDGE 2013 car safety problem was reported on Dec 08, 2014.FORD EDGE 2013, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . the driver side door keeps reading door ajar even tho the door is closed. it happens not only when the car is off and we go to lock it, but while we are driving as well. in the middle of driving the car will begin to make alert sounds, the lights will come on, and it will alert us to put the car into park. when we do park and go to lock the car, the dome lights stay on until the timer shuts them off because it is still registering the door as ajar. my main concern with this problem is that we have a newborn and the safety issues with driving this vehicle while alerts are going off is very troublesome. i have set an appointment up with the ford dealership to look at the door, but after reviewing the gross number of complaints about this same issue, it is mind blowing to me that ford has not stepped up and addressed this issue yet. how are you suppose to feel comfortable driving if the car is constantly alerting and telling you that your driver door is open?.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 30000 miles.
