FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Aug 24, 2009.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL . hello i don't want to waste time going into detail without knowing whether someone at ford will get this...so let me just say that i have been with ford since 1988 when i bought a bronco. in 1992, i bought an eddie bauer explorer and have had explorers up until this past year when i bought your crossover, the edge. it is a nice car, rides nicely but has a lot of road noise that i did not experience with the explorers. my biggest concern/problem is that the speedometer is tucked deep into the right hand corner of the dash and can not be seen during most of the time while driving. seeing it depends on how the light is coming in. i have caught myself going 80 and not realizing it since the dial is just one big black circle. during rain storms, the lights come on, the red indicators are lit, but the speed numbers are lost in the dark. this, i believe, is a serious safety issue. i've been to the dealer and they say that there is nothing that can be done. i have never had a car where the crucial speed dial can not be seen. i think that your ford engineers goofed on this design. the tach on the left side is always visible....but not the speedometer. can you help with this problem? thanks for your time. *tr .Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):2FMDK3KC1AB. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Jan 22, 2010.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM: INSTRUMENT PANEL . the instrument panel, mainly the speedometer, on my 2010 ford edge is very difficult to read under some daylight conditions. the gauges are dark gray background with black number graduations while lights are off and red needle. especially during dawn and dusk conditions with a cloudy sky, shortly after sun-up and shortly before sun-down, while sky is still quite bright and roadway is darkening, and your driving facing the sun, the speedometer is very difficult to read. a quick glance shows only the red needle with dark background. it takes close to 5 seconds for eyes to adjust before numbers can be read and you can see vehicle speed. situation is not improved when lights are on during these conditions. numbers turn from black to green with illumination and there is not enough contrast with gray background during daylight hours to improve condition. on rainy days with dark road conditions and sky is somewhat brighter, the same condition exists, especially when driving towards the sun, even though it is cloud covered. it takes so long for eyes to adjust so speedometer can be read that you could run off the road or into someone. also, under most daylight conditions, the metric scale is impossible to read, regardless of how long you try to focus on it. *tr.Mileage was 0 miles. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 08, 2010.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING:COOLING SYSTEM . sudden, unintended acceleration of my 2010 ford edge vehicle: i turned into my house driveway at approximately 5 to 10 miles/hour speed. as soon as i turned into my driveway, the car suddenly and unintentionally accelerated. i could not control the car. i swerved to avoid my garage, but ended up damaging badly one garage door and the outer corner of my garage wall. the car then crashed against a tree in my lawn and came to a stop. there was bad damage to the front of the car. i was the only one in the car. i was not hurt. there was no injury to anyone else. i called in the police. when the officer asked me what happened, i told him that i might have accelerated the car in error, but i was not sure if there was an electronic problem with the car. in the month preceding the accident, on 2 or 3 occasions, the rpm gauge in the car will suddenly jump from approximately 1500 rpm to approximately 3500 rpm for no obvious reason, there will be a slight jerk in the car but no acceleration of the car. within a few seconds, the rpm will go back down to approximately 1500 rpm by itself. i did not remember these incidents when i spoke to the investigating police officer. these 2 to 3 episodes in the month preceding the accident makes me suspect that the problem is not due to human error, but due to an electronic problem with the car. my insurance company has evaluated the damage to my car and my home and is in the process of settling the claims. the car is in the collision shop recommended by the insurance company and is considered repairable. however, i am not comfortable driving this car again until a problem in the car is ruled out. i e-mailed ford motor company customer relations. they promised to respond within 3 business days, but have not done so. hence, i am contacting nhtsa. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on May 09, 2011.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by FORD MOTOR COMPANY had a problem with VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL . i purchased my 2010 ford edge the first week of may 2011. within three days i noticed that the vehicle would accelerate suddenly, and the rpm would jump from 1500 to 3500, then back again. this happened several times. i called the dealership where i purchased the vehicle, and they stated i could take it to any ford service dept. i did just that and was told nothing was wrong with the vehicle. when i went to retrieve my newly purchased ford edge, there was a four inch gash in the right side of the hood. they denied that the gash happened at their service dept. when i pulled away from the service dept. the vehicle did the same surging forward and the rpm's jumped again. i called the service dept. asap! they had me return immediately, and i went through hell to get a loaner car while my vehicle sat in the service dept through the weekend. on monday of the following week, the service dept mgr called me to let me know that they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. when i picked up the edge that evening, i had the serviceman ride with me. my edge did it again, and i demonstrated how it also did it while set on cruise. this was not a slip of my foot as assumed by the service mgr. they did not fix the issue, but only stated that this is normal for this vehicle. this is not normal when i'm subjected to an accident due to a surging vehicle. i was almost hit while merging as my edge would not immediately accelerate, then boom it shot forward where i needed to apply my brakes or hit the car in front of me. i still experience this surging at least three to four times a week. i'm waiting for my accident!!!!! *kb.Mileage was 29000 miles. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 27, 2012.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with WHEELS . we recently experienced a tire blowout of the left rear tire on our 2010 ford edge while traveling south on interstate 81 south just outside of scranton pa. at the time of the blowout we were traveling about 60mph. when i went to change the tire i observed that the wheel (rim) had started to collapse and the outer rim had separated from the hub about 75% of the way. we did not run over anything that we can remember. there was no noise that would normally be expected if something was in the road and neither of us heard anything but the noise of the tire blowout. (if there was something in the road, how did the front tire not contact it as well??) the road was clear ahead of us. i immediately pulled over, but had to "inch" along the side of the road for about 200yds to get to a safe point to change the tire. after that, we went to a local ford dealer for assistance, as we were not comfortable driving another 500 miles on a "mini" spare tire. the dealer shared with us that they had never seen anything like this before. after some examination we did notice a tiny puncture of the tire on the inside surface of the tire. there is a corresponding "pushed in" surface of the aluminum wheel. (i have photos available, as well as the wheel and tire). i report this as a concern for the safety of others as this could have been a terrible accident had the wheel separated. ford motor company did nothing to assist with this defective wheel. we are also not feeling comfortable that won't happen again if we get another blowout. so far this has cost us about $1,000 for replacement wheel & tire. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 31500 miles. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on May 05, 2013.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with WHEELS . i was performing preventative vehicle maintenance on my 2010 ford edge. i had just completed a basic oil change, to include both oil filter and air filter change along with topping off of all vehicle fluids. i lastly attempted to rotate the vehicle tires when i noticed that two of the vehicles lug nuts where just free spinning along the wheel stud or bolt. at first i thought the lug nuts had just stripped and was in the process of replacing them when the entire lug nut and wheel studs (bolt) came completely off the wheel hub. this is very concerning due to the fact that the vehicle is only two (2) years old and in excellent condition, not to mention that i have never encountered a problem with a vehicles wheel studs. the wheel studs along with the lug nuts are the components that hold the tires securely to the vehicles. after several attempts to locate the vehicle at the local parts stores, i spent several hours on the web trying to find the replacement wheel studs to no avail. however, i did find where ford motor vehicle company has recalled several 2010 ford focus and 2010 ford fusion for the same problem. to quote "lug nut, bolt or stud were found defective, (sheared completely off) on several 2010 ford fusion models." when i approached the ford dealership to order replacement wheel studs they acted suprised and non-chalant concerning the problems and simply stated that my vehicle was no longer under warranty. is this related? *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 25782 miles. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Dec 12, 2011.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . my ford edge 2010 has issues with the transmission. the car now has 76,000 miles but about every 20,000 miles i have a violent transmission shift. it is either the transmission or the all wheel drive controls. the car will be going along and all of a sudden there is a loud noise and jerking back and forth for about 3 seconds. it sounds like the tranny is falling out or has rocks in it. i took it to ford many times and they acknowledge there is a problem but all they do is update the software ( and charge me). they keep saying there is a fix for the issue in the software but it doesn't fix the issue. they gave me an extended warranty but it doesn't matter because they don't care to find the problem. i asked why they don't pull the tranny pan in look for loose metal or issues and they said they have to charge me. the dealer told me they have to pay there own guys to look for the problem and they don't get reimbursed by ford for this so they aren't going to do anything except put a recorder on my car for 30 days again. i told them it is intermittent. they offered to sell me a new car or find another edge with 76,000 and put me in that. i told them i didn't want to spend money on another car because i just spent 34,000 on this one and giving me another edge the same age i have no clue what problems i could have with that. in other words ford isn't worried about my issue until someone gets hurt. the warranty doesn't mean a thing to them. if it causes an accident i will sue them for everything for selling me a defective car and not standing behind it. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):2FMDK4JC4AB. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Aug 19, 2013.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with WHEELS . i purchased a used vehicle from broadway kia. upon inspection i found that there were a few, what appeared to be cosmetic damages to the front passenger side rim. i asked the sales person, [xxx] about the damaged rim because it appeared to be bent. he assured me that the entire vehicle was inspected and that the tire/wheel was not compromised. approximately 2 weeks later the tire pressure gauge came on in the car. i filled all the tires because at that point i was not certain any one tire was low. approximately 2 weeks after that i had to put more air in the right passenger side tire. at that point i went to a firestone tires to have them repair what i thought was a leak. they advised that the tire could not be dismounted and repaired because the rim itself was bent and cracking and that i would need an entire new wheel (tire and rim). at that point i emailed one of the managers at broadway kia to let them know what was going on. i went in on 8/18/13 and purchased a new set of tires and rims as i needed to be able to drive. i contacted the general manager regarding the issue and was asked to bring the car in but once he found out that i had already purchased new rims/tires he told me there was nothing he could do. i was advised by the tire repair person that had i hit something just right or had too much pressure applied on the tire it could have blown. this car was not safe to drive off the lot or allow someone to drive for an entire month. this company needs to be held to higher safety standards. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 36500 miles. FORD EDGE 2010 car safety problem was reported on Mar 26, 2014.FORD EDGE 2010, manufactured by Ford Motor Company had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i was attempting to park on a steep incline in san francisco on a rainy day, because i was aware that my vehicle tends to roll backwards upon releasing the brake (even when in drive), i decided to not park in that spot and was very careful to shift into drive and gun the gas so the car would move forward and not roll back into anything behind me. i had successfully used this technique before, but this time gunning the gas still resulted in my rolling backwards and caused a collision. after the collision, reapplying the gas made the car move forward, but now the damage was done. i do not know if this is a gear selector problem, an issue with the car in the great deal it rolls back on hills, or a combination of both, but this is definitely a safety issue and was not brought to our attention when purchasing the vehicle or in any of the safety information we read to date especially considering the hilly environment in the bay area. if the vehicle had a manual 4wd selector like my old ford ranger did, switching this on would resolve this issue on hills, and allowing it to be shut off during normal drives would still reserve the fuel economy that ford was going for with this model. *tr.Vehicle was involved in a crash. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 27020 miles.
