DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on June 26, 2009.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER LLC had a problem with INTERIOR LIGHTING . i have a 2009 dodge journey r/t which has led courtesy lamps over head and under the dash on both sides as well as a rear dome. the overhead dome and front led's are controlled by opening the doors as most courtesy lamps are. however the under the dash courtesy lamps are controlled with the dash instrumentation lamps, therefore when you drive with the headlamps on, they are also on. this makes driving at night very difficult as the inside of the vehicle is illuminated, causing glare and poor visibility outside of the vehicle. i have returned the vehicle to the dealer on several occasions, as of friday 6/26/09 they now inform me that is the way it is made and can't be changed. this is dangerous and unacceptable. *tr.Mileage was 27 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Mar 21, 2010.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION . we bought a 2009 dodge journey sxt back in may 09. in the last month feb 2010 on, the automatic locking/security mechanism for the driver side door has failed (scheduled to be looked in two days) and today our transmission/gearbox literally exploded under the hood at 6,000 miles. we were driving down a back road on the way to store when a string smell of burning came into the cabin and then we heard a severe pop and then nothing but billowing smoke. we had our two young children in car seats and immediately stopped the vehicle to try and get them away from the possibility of the engine being on fire. we got the kids out and i went back to shut off the car once i saw it wasn't fuel leaking. once it cooled down and stopped smoking i raised the hood and saw what looked to be burnt transmission fluid and small metal flakes all over my engine and undersideof the hood. so it was just towed to the local dealership to find the cause. so now i have a car with a faulty security system and possibly needs a new transmission and we only have 6,000 miles on the car. still waiting for the dealership to do the work. on a side note, with all of these issues on a brand new car we may be exploring legal options if chrysler doesn't make this right. *tr.Mileage was 6052 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 16, 2010.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . i purchased my journey in march 08. i have 17,000 miles on it and i had to have the rear brake pads replaced. i had been noticing a hot smell coming from my car from time to time, but until i walked by may rear tire i did not know where the smell was coming from. when i bet down to investigate the smell my rear wheels were so hot i could not touch the wheels. the smell was not a hot break smell but a different one. i contact my dealership and they had me bring it right in. after evaluating the problem they told me it is a design issue with the journey and a couple other models. what was happening was the breaks were oxidizing and the calipers would release, but the brake pads would not. so the brake pads were constantly rubbing the rotors. they said they have seen this issue many times before but chrysler was not addressing the issue. my dealership treated me well, but this issue should be remedy. i called the recall department and they stated there were no recalls for this matter, but advised me to go to nhtsa.gov and state my complaint. they will not start an investigation into this matter until they receive a larger consensus of complaints. the dealership said this would be an ongoing issue for the life of the car. *tr.Mileage was 17000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Aug 30, 2010.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with SERVICE BRAKES, HYDRAULIC . my dodge journey has 28,000 miles on it, and was purchased new in march of 2009. there has been a noticeable pulsing, and noise when the brakes are applied. during a routine oil change my local mechanic urged my to have my brakes and rotors replaced for safeties sake, and noted that they would not pass inspection. they were in such poor condition that my mechanic would not resurface the rotors, and only replace them. i immediately scheduled an appointment with the dealer i purchased the car from(reedman toll, langhorne pa). the dealer would provide no compensation, and would not acknowledge that chrysler has an issue with their brakes/rotors. upon the dealers inspection, he conformed the brake and rotor wear, as expected. the deal told me that i could go "another 1,000 or so miles" on these brakes and rotors before i needed to do anything. i questioned the need for rotors at less than 30,00 miles and i was told that 30,000 miles is an acceptable amount for replacement. i have owned many cars, and none of them have had rotors replaced before 50,000. upon further research, their are thousands of complaints against chrysler in regards to brakes and rotors, and they have done nothing. brakes are the most critical item on your car and they are willing to roll the dice with my family. this is unacceptable. i should have no safety concerns or out of pocket expenses with a new car. but, now i'm faced with $900 in repairs in an economy that i should be saving in. chrysler should be stepping up and taking cure of its customers rather than risking possible injury. *tr.Mileage was 28000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 11, 2011.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with TIRES . 2009 dodge journey brake, and tire issue. took a trip from des moines, ia. to shreveport, la. - halfway thru my trip home my rear passenger tire blew out of nowhere. with only 18,000 miles on the car i found that surprising especially since i was traveling at 75 mph, and had three kids in the car!!!! took the car to the nearest tire store who called a dodge dealer. the dodge dealer said that my tire was backordered by over 3,000 tires and recommended a different size. spent the night in that town, new tires were put on the following day, drove back to des moines to my dodge dealer here and i informed them of the terrible shaking my steering wheel had throughout the entire trip. they said it was my breaks and rotors and charged me for the service - after only 18,000 miles!!! i picked up my car today from this dealer and there is still shaking, and now a scent of exhaust in the car. i am afraid to drive this car with my family in it, and want to know if i have any recourse at all... *tr.Mileage was 18000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Sept 10, 2011.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . i was driving my 2009 dodge journey today, 9/10/11 and all of a sudden it started to lose power. it began to shake as if it were trembling underneath the vehicle. the journey was in drive and started to go backwards. i pressed the accelerator with my foot and it went straight to the floor. the gear shift was in drive and the car continued to go backwards with the gear shift in drive. i was very frantic and then began to press the brake pedal with my foot. the journey would not stop. the brake pedal went straight to the floor as the car continued to go backwards. i quickly pressed the emergency brake with my left foot and the car stopped suddenly and shut off while the gear was still in drive. i put the gear back in the park position and tried to start the car but it would not crank. i made a report to dodge by calling (800) 992-1992 on sunday september 11, 2011. i received a reference case number: 21334169. i received a call from dodge from (800) 763-8433 on monday september 12, 2011 from case managers[xxx](ext.[xxx]) and[xxx](ext.[xxx]). i returned their calls but never had the opportunity to speak with them. they were not available. i left multiple messages for them both and spoke with various people at the call center; neither case manager never returned my calls and i was informed from different representatives at the call center that both[xxx]and [xxx] declined any service to my vehicle due to the high mileage and it being out of warranty. the electrical problem is a manufactured defect with the 2009 journey and has been recognized nationwide by other vehicle owners. information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr.Vehicle Identification Number (VIN):3D4GG57V69T. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 13, 2012.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with TIRES . i am a licensed commonwealth of pennsylvania certified state inspection mechanic. i just encountered a very dangerous situation with a customers 2009 dodge journey awd vehicle today, july 14, 2012. i wanted to bring this to the attention of the proper authority, with the hope that this could be investigated in detail to prevent a potential fatality or a number of them.today a regular customer of mine, arrived at my facility with a flat tire, after further inspection; i noticed the valve stem was missing ( on the 2009 journey and many new vehicles this is a " tpms" - tire pressure monitor sensor) the customer was driving at approx. 30 mph and noticed the light come up on the dash and within seconds her tire was flat, nothing was hit, no jolt, no warning, just poof, the tire went flat. luckily she was driving at a low rate of speed on a rural roadway and was able to stop the vehicle and exit to safety with her children. once i dismounted the tire, i found the tpms on the inside of the tire leaving just a hole in the rim, hence the loss of air pressure. the threads on the tpms were covered with oxidation and no retaining nut was found,the stem was not broken, altered or vandalized, it just came unattached. the threads were oxidized so badly that another retainer could not be threaded on, so i replaced the tpms with a new one. after installing that tire, i went to test the air pressure in the other front tire, as i gently placed the pressure gauge on the tpms valve stem to check the pressure, poof that tpms went right thru the rim; the retaining nut shattered and broke into pieces, quickly causing a massive and rapid loss of pressure.it is my opinion that, had the vehicle been traveling faster, a vehicle owner would be left in a very bad situation, perhaps causing a loss of control and a potential fatality. tpms sensors need to be inspected or recalled to prevent death. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 50000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on July 13, 2012.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with WHEELS . i am a licensed commonwealth of pennsylvania certified state inspection mechanic. i just encountered a very dangerous situation with a customers 2009 dodge journey awd vehicle today, july 14, 2012. i wanted to bring this to the attention of the proper authority, with the hope that this could be investigated in detail to prevent a potential fatality or a number of them.today a regular customer of mine, arrived at my facility with a flat tire, after further inspection; i noticed the valve stem was missing ( on the 2009 journey and many new vehicles this is a " tpms" - tire pressure monitor sensor) the customer was driving at approx. 30 mph and noticed the light come up on the dash and within seconds her tire was flat, nothing was hit, no jolt, no warning, just poof, the tire went flat. luckily she was driving at a low rate of speed on a rural roadway and was able to stop the vehicle and exit to safety with her children. once i dismounted the tire, i found the tpms on the inside of the tire leaving just a hole in the rim, hence the loss of air pressure. the threads on the tpms were covered with oxidation and no retaining nut was found,the stem was not broken, altered or vandalized, it just came unattached. the threads were oxidized so badly that another retainer could not be threaded on, so i replaced the tpms with a new one. after installing that tire, i went to test the air pressure in the other front tire, as i gently placed the pressure gauge on the tpms valve stem to check the pressure, poof that tpms went right thru the rim; the retaining nut shattered and broke into pieces, quickly causing a massive and rapid loss of pressure.it is my opinion that, had the vehicle been traveling faster, a vehicle owner would be left in a very bad situation, perhaps causing a loss of control and a potential fatality. tpms sensors need to be inspected or recalled to prevent death. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 50000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Oct 01, 2012.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by CHRYSLER GROUP LLC had a problem with TIRES:PRESSURE MONITORING AND REGULATING SYSTEMS . i have a 2009 journey sxt, and the transfer case blew at 12,000 miles due to bad oil at factory, i thought "odd but okay". at that time i was informed i needed brakes and rotors. again i thought odd and questioned why i needed both, it was explained to me that the rotors are so thin that they have to be replaced when replacing brakes. under warranty but not for brakes about 2 months katerina got the recall after they put the same [xxx] brakes and rotors on there that was recalled so imagine my surprise when i had to get them done again at 35/40k to which i had my dad do them and picked out the brake shoes myself. so i drive it for a while another 20k and again i need new tires and brakes and an alignment. so 2000 later cus having "size 225/55/r19" there is only one manufacture and tires are 250 each. now i am used to having new tires and you rotate them every other oil change and that's it untilyou get up there in mileage again. not so - 3 weeks later i was back in there because i kept loosing tire pressure well on tire had a nail in it - which they didn't tell me they just said the tires look great they checked them for leaks and found none. one week later i was back in there as tires are loosing air once again. to which they tell me they will reveal them just this once free of charge and i need a new tire as the patch (that i didn't know about) on sidewall blew out. okay now i am thinking good should be all set but then the dealership told me i had a cracked valve stem and for them to fix it will be another 200. now when i pay 250 per tire i expect that the valve stem would be replaced and a new one put on. again nope!!!,!,!!! so very other day we have to put air in my tires. except one day the valve stem cover came right off and now my car sits. when buying vehicle i was told full sir spare nope again just a donut so if anyone knows why a valve stem would not be replaced when tires are i would sure appreciate some answers.... thanks journey running me over information redacted pursuant to the freedom of information act (foia), 5 u.s.c. 552(b)(6). *tr.Dodge Journey Awd 2009 problem was reported in RANSOMVILLE, NY. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Apr 02, 2013.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i bought my journey less than a year ago. since i am not the original owner i get the shaft with a car w/less than 60,000. well, i had just gotten new tires when on my way home i apply the brakes to pull into the drive and hear a horrific metallic noise. upon my husbands inspection there is nothing found wrong with the brakes or the front of the car, after not being able to stand the noise anymore i have him change the front brakes the next day, thinking maybe the tire guy had knocked something loose and we couldn't find it.brakes still looked good, changed anyway. noise still horrible. next day took the car to a mechanic who informed me of major transmission problems. i had the car transported to a transmission shop. diagnoses, transfer case has gone out, bad news over 600!!!!!!! on backorder, let me know it might be up to 2 months before they could get one to fix it. i talked to the local dealership, they informed me they could get one sooner. i had the car transported once again. after being at the dealership for 2 weeks now they are telling me it maybe atleast another month. really? i am still waiting. just wondering what the magic number of problems to one part does it take before chrysler/dodge admits that there is a problem with them and they do a recall on these transfercases that are not lasting as long as an american part should? if i had known about this common transfer box problem i would have atleast been the first owner of a new vehicle with a warrenty not the second who gets the shaft. so $2000.00 later i am still waiting. *tr.0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 61914 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Nov 15, 2012.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC had a problem with TIRES . all 4 tires replaced 11/15/2012. ordered brand new kumho tires, had them mounted, balanced and secured with rh warranty. immediately noticed they were more noisy than the tires that were on journey before replacement 11/15/2012. slight shimmy and humming noise. november 2012 - took vehicle back to service center that mounted tires. explained issue(s), owner told service center possible bad tire(s), requested tire inspection. no results found. service center asked owner to drive on tires for 2/3 days to see if shimmy is coming from front or rear end. owner completed requested action by service center, reported shimmy coming from rear end and requested additional inspection of tires. service center "says" they inspected again and found nothing. december -2012 owner returned to service center for third time to request rotate & balanced. service center once again "says" they rotated, balanced and checked tires and found nothing wrong. shimmy and humming noise now completely located in front of vehicle. 04/21/2013 front right brake caliper and pad needs replaced. caliper dragging and smoking. when front right tire was removed to replace caliper tire was wobbly and would not stand on its own or roll on floor "normally". no other tires were inspected 4/21/2013. owner plans to return to service center where tires were purchased/mounted to request another inspection and replacement. *tr.Mileage was 71030 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Feb 01, 2013.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC had a problem with POWER TRAIN . i purchased the 2009 dodge journey sxt used in 2012. in less then a year i had to replace an axle, then replace a drive shaft. once the drive shaft was replaced, less then a month later i was driving home and heard a clicking noise. it lasted no longer then a minute and then about 1 mile down the road as i was turning on to my road i heard a loud crack. my vehicle then shook violently as i drove, as if one of the tires might be falling off. i cautiously continued on at no more then 15mph to my drive (maybe 2/10 of a mile). when i pulled in my car was smoking. the next day we had the vehicle towed to a local repair shop, thinking maybe it was a transmission problem. and were informed it was a transfer case needing to be replaced. it had cracked and split down the middle and was leaking fluid. when we called to check on the $1200.00 part (after already putting in another $1500 in parts and labor to the other two problems) we were informed that the company was over 300 parts behind on them and it could take a while. great. after immense online research it appears that this is a common problem in the sxt awd version of this vehicle. had we purchased this vehicle new, it would have been covered under a lifetime warranty, however because it was used we get screwed. if you ask me, dodge should back its vehicles, no matter what. a recall should be issued and dodge should have to fix what appears to be a common problem. *tr.Vehicle was on fire. 0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 91000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 29, 2013.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC had a problem with ELECTRICAL SYSTEM . we purchased this vehicle used at the end of 2013. we had two occurrences fairly spaced apart where the vehicle would not turn itself off after turning the ignition to off and removing the key. with key in hand, standing outside the vehicle, the engine was still running. we took it to a dodge dealership near our home, they hooked it up to try every code and every recall that could possibly have been an answer. they found no answer. we also had the battery replaced about that time. now here we are september of 2014. less than a year later, and the problem has become an every day occurrence. the car will not start without a jump, it will not hold its charge either. we have had our starter and alternator checked, which are both fine. now after jumping the car, we start heading to our destination. the car will not accelerate. it reaches about 25mph and then the rpms continue to climb into the 4s, 5s, 6s, and 7s if i try to go any faster, it just will not shift. now after patiently driving to our destination at 25mph, the car does not shut off after turning the key off. we must open our hood and pull a fuse to stop our engine. it has gotten so bad to where i cannot transport my 3 year old daughter to the babysitter or make it to either of my jobs. i need an answer and no dealership seems to have one. please help! .0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 85000 miles. DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009 car safety problem was reported on Dec 22, 2014.DODGE JOURNEY AWD 2009, manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC had a problem with ENGINE . as i was turning into a subdivision a loud knocking noise followed by a squeal and my engine completely shut down and seized. i have a little over 83,000 miles on my 2009 dodge journey. there were no indications of any problems. it was one of the quietest vehicles i have ever owned, and this happened out of no where. the shop has informed us that the engine is completely seized and needs to be replaced. the mechanic has not seen such silvery oil in a long time. this comes across like a manufacture error such as your recall for the rod bearing in your 2012. can someone please investigate this. i just made my third payment on this vehicle, and now i am without a vehicle, after owning it for 87 days at the time of incident. an oil change was done approximately 1000 miles prior to the incident and there were absolutely no warning signs. we need our vehicle, and it is going to cost $4000 to fix, and we still owe over $10,000 because we purchased it on september 25, 2014 and this happened on december 22, 2014. this has to be a manufacturing issue. please advise as to what to do to have this fixed..0 person(s) were injured. 0 person(s) died.Mileage was 83000 miles.
